Is God Sovereign Over Governments? Jan 04, 2021
    Show notes

Episode 612 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. Are God's promises conditional on our actions? If we don't forgive others, will he not forgive us? Do I fall out of God's favor every time I sin?

    2. Does God control governments, history, and policies in order to fulfill all that he promises to do?

    3. Can Christians have the Holy Spirit in the same way the early disciples did at Pentecost?

    4. What is the difference between the soul, the spirit, and the flesh, which is like our body? What is the difference between those three, and are the soul and the spirit the same thing?

    5. A pastor recently said that there is a difference between knowing that you are a sinner and actually mourning over your sin. God has shown me that I am a sinner, that I cannot make myself good enough for him, and that I need Jesus. But I don't remember mourning my sin, and I feel like I'm mentally torturing myself to see if I am truly saved. What does it mean to mourn your sin? What makes it true mourning?

If Demons Believe in God, Does Believing in God Really Save You? Jan 01, 2021
    Show notes

Episode 611 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions. CoreChristianity.com

    Show Notes

    1. 1. What do you say to people who claim that Christian doctrines like the trinity and the miracles in the bible are merely myths and fairytales? I believe and trust in Jesus, but when I start to spell out the things Christians believe it does honestly sound strange sometimes. Curious to hear your thoughts.

    2. What's the difference in bible translations? The one I use is a Roman Catholic bible which contains additional books not found in other Bibles, but even so, isn't the word of God going to be mirrored in each and every Bible? Therefore, whether I read my Bible or the Gideon Bible at a hotel room, won't the same message get across? Or is it sometimes different per Bible?

    3. People are telling me that "All you have to do is believe," but even the demons believed but did not follow him. In my opinion believing does not give total salvation because of that. I would like to hear your thoughts on that.

    4. My son is 5 years old and recently acted out against his siblings and hurt them. While he reconciled with them and my wife and I forgave him, he is still struggling with guilt. At such a young age, how should we encourage our kids, especially when they fail?

Is Jesus or the Bible the Word of God? Dec 31, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 610 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions. CoreChristianity.com

    Show Notes

    1. I have heard a pastor say that he has never once had someone come to him and repent of being greedy, even though Jesus talks about greed more than any other sin. My question is then, has anyone ever confessed to you that they struggle with greed, and if not, what do you think about this?

    2. In Mark 13:30, Jesus says, "Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place." How do we correctly interpret this passage? It seems to say all of those things have already happened since that "generation" has already passed away. Or, who is this "generation" referring to?

    3. Please explain what Jeremiah 48:10 means, "Cursed is he who does the work of the Lord with slackness, and cursed is he who keeps back his sword from bloodshed" This is very confusing to me—why do the books of the prophets often speak in these dark and confusing ways?

    4. What is the word of God, Jesus, the spirit behind the word, the bible itself? And do pastors quote the bible, and instead of saying, "God says this," they say, "Paul says this," etc.

Are Certain Sins Judged More Severely than Others? Dec 30, 2020

Episode 609 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions. CoreChristianity.com

    Show Notes

    1. I am naturally interested in studying the bible and theological books. I also have a young family and while my wife is not uninterested in these things, I also know it would not be ideal for us as a family to read and discuss the types of things I am naturally drawn to, theologically speaking. I think it would be too much for them and unhelpful. What are ways that I can better help my family learn about the faith together?

    2. Does Jesus serve only as the intermediary between us and the Father, or can we also pray to Jesus as well as the Father?

    3. Recently I had a mini debate with some followers and disciples of a very intense charismatic leader. In our conversation they used Acts 2:17-18 as their self-defense on personal revelation or dreams. What do you think would be a good response to these interpretations?

    4. Does everyone that goes to hell suffer equally? It would seem reasonable to think that someone like Hitler would suffer more than an ethical, moral person who perhaps had never been exposed to the Word or perhaps kept putting off a decision or was led into a less than real salvation experience.

Is It Possible to Be Saved but Not Know It? Dec 29, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 608 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions. CoreChristianity.com

    Show Notes

    1. How do you appeal to a person who claims to be a Christian without being part of a local church; without taking the sacraments, and sitting under the regular preaching of the Word of God?

    2. I want to ask a question. How do I get to know more about the word of God?

    3. What was the blessing that Abraham would be to all the nations from Genesis 12:1-3?

    4. Is it possible to be saved and not know it? I am aware of the verse that says the Spirit of God testifies with our spirit that we are the sons and heirs of Jesus Christ, but I am wondering if it is also possible to not know that you are saved?

    5. I'm liking distributing gospel tracts as good work for the Kingdom of God. My parents, who are unbelievers, are frustrated with me because of it. My mom told me to stop distributing and printing as long as I'm under their roof. Should I obey? I need advice.

If God is All Powerful, Why Does He Allow Suffering? Dec 28, 2020

Episode 607 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions. CoreChristianity.com

    Show Notes

    1. When I remember bible verses, can I trust that that is God's voice talking to me? Is that what the bible refers to as the "still small voice"?

    2. Who made God?

    3. After reading a parable that Jesus told in Luke 19:11-27, I found myself a little confused about what it means. What is Jesus wanting us to understand here?

    4. I don't know if you saw that movie Batman v. Superman that came out a few years ago, but in that movie, the villain, Lex Luthor, makes a comment about God. He says that God allows evil because he either doesn't care, or is not powerful enough to stop it. I know this is a movie but this seems like a good point, especially when you think of senseless suffering, like with children dying. How would you answer Lex Luthor's question?

The Difference Between the Incarnation and Reincarnation Dec 25, 2020

Episode 605 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions. CoreChristianity.com

    Show Notes

    1. Who were the Three Magi or Wisemen that came to see Jesus when he was born? They don't seem to be referenced again in scripture. Is their involvement in the story important or is it random?

    2. Can you explain what Matthew 11:11-15 means?

    3. When it comes to salvation, do we respond to God or does God respond to us when we choose him?

    4. A family member who is not a Christian asked me what Christians have against reincarnation since we believe that God was incarnate as Jesus. I couldn't really answer him. Does the incarnation mean that reincarnation is a possibility for humans?

Was St. Nick a Real Figure in Church History? Dec 24, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 604 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions. CoreChristianity.com

    Show Notes

    1. My wife and I were at a baptismal service recently where the pastor said that when Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist all of the sins of the world were placed on him at that time and he then carried them with him until he went to the cross. We believe this is incorrect and that the sins of his people were placed on him at the cross and not at his baptism. What do you think?

    2. I have a 5 year old grandson who is very smart. I started reading Bible stories to him but when he sees Adam he asks, "is this God?" or Noah, he asks, "is this God?" Any male he associates with God. How can I explain an abstract concept as He cannot touch or see I am stumped can you help me?

    3. I have heard for the first time folks say that St. Nicholas was a real historical figure who fought against heretics in the ancient Christian church. Does this give us reason to celebrate the Santa Clause folklore during Christmas? I am not sure how the myth and this figure are related in the first place.

    4. I want to ask about the Spirit's voice as it relates not quite to prophesy, but when people "hear the voice of the Lord" when they pray, read the bible, or when they are at church, etc. Oftentimes this will happen and folks will feel inspired to say something to someone to encourage them and they will interpret that as the voice of the Spirit, prodding them to do so. This does not quite fit with "prophesy," and people who claim to feel this voice of the Lord wouldn't claim this to be prophesy, and I am not aware of anything in scripture that contradicts this notion. Am I just too stubborn with my cessationist opinions?

How Much of the Old Testament is About Jesus? Dec 23, 2020

    Show Notes

    1. I want to be a Christian, but I am not sure how. Can you please help me? 2. Could you explain Mark 2:21-22 for me please? 3. I know in my head that God is good and uses things for His Glory, but both myself and my daughter have learning disabilities that make life very difficult. Why would God allow that and how can it possibly be used for His Glory? Thank you. 4. In Hosea 11:1, where it says, "When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son," is it referring to Jesus or Israel? I have heard pastors argue for both interpretations. It seems that if all of these Old Testament texts were only about Jesus than the Israelites in the Old Testament would not have actually known what they were about. What do you think? Today's Offer
