Have the Miraculous Gifts of the Spirit Ceased? Nov 18, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 578 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

    1. When can I be a witness for Jesus and evangelize, do I have to wait until the Spirit descends on me and anoints me?

    2. What does the Bible say about fasting? Is it just about giving up food for awhile to draw closer to God? Is it something we can do to unlock some form of holy power like the apostles did in the New Testament? I hear about it on Instagram a good bit but I just don't fully understand it.

    3. Me and my friend were talking about if miraculous signs, wonders, and spiritual gifts have ceased. He said "there's no way a person can read through the entire New Testament and come to that conclusion." So, is there a way?

    4. I have become more conscious of trying not to shame and alienate others for their faults, especially in this contentious year, but I have gotten pushback by others saying that no matter how kind I am my belief that we are all inherently sinners means that I am teaching others to hate themselves, especially those who have experienced abuse or trauma who already struggle with self-hatred and feeling ashamed. How can I answer these responses and tell people that even though they are sinners that God loves them?

Should a Pastor Come Back After Committing Adultery? Nov 17, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 577 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

    1. What do you do when the truths of the gospel and the bible and everything we believe as Christians sometimes just do not feel real? What do you do when the experiences of your life seem more random than guided by a loving God?

    2. In another episode you mentioned that one must believe to be saved. While I believe that this is right, the Bible also says that we need to be born again. Can you elaborate on how salvation is God's work in us while we are also required to believe?

    3. My atheist father asked me the question the other night, "if God exist, then who created God?" I didn't know how to answer him. How would you answer this?

    4. I saw in the news that a famous pastor was recently fired for committing adultery. I then wondered if pastors should be allowed to come back and pastor a church again after committing adultery? I know that Christians sin and fail, sometimes in horrific ways, but should they lead in the same capacity that they once did?

Episode 576 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

    1. Do you know of any helpful ways to bring up faith in a conversation that is not awkward or abrupt, or should we always try to evangelize even if it makes regular conversation awkward?

    2. How do you pray "in the spirit"? I always thought prayer was good enough, but I am realizing praying "in the spirit" is something totally different.

    3. Is the story of Jonah and the Whale historically true, or was it a myth that was handed down through the generations?

    4. As Christians, how should we respond if the second amendment, the right to bear arms, were ever to be removed? From a biblical perspective of "live by the sword die by the sword," is there still a biblical mandate that implies the right to protect yourself and your brothers in such a scenario?

    1. In the Gospel of John it seems like some people "believed" but really didn't, according to Jesus. How do we understand this, particularly in reference to ourselves or our friends who may "believe" but might not be saved? How can we discern whether someone is in that state, or is that something only Jesus can see?

    2. It seems like in every job there is some form of complicity we share with unethical practices, whether it is selling products made in sweatshops or being in politics or the armed forces where, for better or for worse, you have other people's lives or livelihoods in your hands. Are there some jobs that Christians should avoid entirely, or how should we practice wisdom when choosing our careers?

    3. In Genesis 9, why does Noah curse Canaan after he awakens from his drunkenness and not Ham? What is the significance of Noah's nakedness being uncovered and covered?

    4. What do you think the state of the church is right now, is it good or bad? Are we compromising to the culture and world around us?

    1. A friend of mine recently suggested that my wife and I stop seeing a family therapist that we have been meeting with and instead only receive biblical counseling since it is based on scripture instead of other things. We have found meeting with this therapist really helpful, but are willing to meeting counselors in the church as well, but I am unsure if we had to choose between one or the other.

Should Christians Give to the Homeless? Nov 11, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 573 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

    1. I have heard that in prayer we can be totally honest with God, even cry and yell and demand for help when we need it. I recently have seen videos of prosperity preachers screaming in prayer and demanding things of God that seem strange. So how should we model ourselves in prayer?

    2. What does Hebrews 12 mean when it says that "Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses"? Who are these witnesses, angels, believers who have died, or something else?

    3. Philippians 2:4 says that I should put the needs of others ahead of my own. Matthew 5:40 says that if someone asks me for my shirt, I should give them my coat also. So, if someone approaches me with a need and I have the resources to help I almost always help them. I do, however, have Christian friends who criticize me because they think I'm letting other people take advantage of me. Are they right?

    4. Since Muslims actually admit that Jesus is an anointed messenger and messiah, and in light of Matt. 10:32, where Jesus says that, "So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven," do Christians do well to condemn Muslims just because they do not confess the Christ of the creeds?

    2. Does Revelation 3:5 teach that we are once saved, always saved?

    3. The bible seems to say that we have eternal souls. But we clearly did not have the bodies we have until we were born. So, where were our souls before we were born?

When Does Law-Keeping Become Legalistic? Nov 09, 2020

Episode 571 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

    1. I have noticed that over the last few years a number of Christian worship leaders and artists have renounced the Christian religion and say that they have "de-converted" or "deconstructed" their faith. In light of this, what do you think of singing artist's songs who have since left the faith?

    2. What does the word "elect" mean in scripture?

    3. For 30 years I struggled with pornography and alcohol addiction. I know that the Bible says to love your enemies, but I have a hard time loving the people that manufacture these two things that destroy lives every day. How do I handle this if I am to love and forgive them for what they are doing?

    4. I really want to be conformed to the image of Christ, and I know it's only by the power of God that this happens, but I understand that I also have a responsibility as well, but when does law-keeping cross over to legalism?

    1. In the news cycle and on social media, misinformation is often a topic of discussion. What do you think are some of the most misunderstood or misinformed ideas about Christianity?

    2. It is my understanding that Enoch and Elijah were taken directly to heaven without experiencing physical death. If so, do they now have glorified and resurrected bodies, and did Elijah appear to Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration in a glorified body?

    3. What is the point of praying for things if God already knows what the outcome for everything is going to be?

    4. Why did God choose to reveal himself in big and fantastic ways in the Old Testament (e.g., the burning bush, the parting of the Red Sea, etc.), but today he does not reveal himself in those ways?

    1. How do I know without a doubt that a choice I am making is God's choice for me? It really feels like I am talking and listening to a wall 99% of the time.

    2. I believe in the Trinity and in Jesus Christ, but what confuses me is that the Bible also says that "no one knows the day or hour" of Jesus's return except for the Father. If Jesus is God, wouldn't he know?

    3. Does the bible say anything about the mistreatment of wild or domestic animals? I see so much of that going on today and was wondering if the bible addresses this.

    4. I recently have become visually impaired. I have also heard that Jesus's miracle of giving sight to the blind man was only symbolic of giving the man understanding to the gospel. What do you think?
