Plus they consider the state of the market and talk about what opportunities there might be for collectors and investors alike.

    Show notes

EPISODE 56 - Clark, Hyung and John open up the episode discussing NBA players who could see a big bump now in card value that the conference finals are set and conversely players who could see a dip heading into the offseason (and might represent good buying opportunities).

The guys then introduce a new segment called "Over/Under" where Clark presents five cards with a fixed dollar amount. Then Hyung and John guess whether the last sold card price was over or under that amount. Then they discuss whether the current prices of those cards are good buying or selling opportunities.

Making Hobby Predictions (the downfall of Panini Prizm Basketball? BGS True Gems Undervalued?); Prevalence of Trimmed Cards in the Hobby; Prospects to Chase in 2022 Bowman Baseball May 10, 2022
    Show notes

EPISODE 53 - Clark, Hyung and John quickly weigh in with their opinions on three hobby-related news items off the top of the show including the recent card trimming controversy of the Trevor Lawrence rookie card and the prevalence of trimmed cards in the market. They also touch upon the recent sale of the Lewis Hamilton PSA 7 non-autograph Topps Chrome superfractor and discuss whether the final sale price was too high or a steal. And third, they express their differing opinions on eBay's new authenticity guarantee of graded cards valued at more than $2,000.

The guys then give their hobby predictions on what they think might occur in either the short-term or long-term future. That includes the possibility of Panini Prizm Basketball losing its value due to high population counts of some cards; and how investing in BGS True Gem cards can be a nice investment play for the near-term future.

Then Hyung gives an in-depth talk about the 2022 Bowman Baseball release and the risk (and fun) of chasing prospects. He also compares this set to previously released Bowman Baseball sets in terms of the quality of prospects in each set, and names a few this year of who has great potential to make an impact in the big leagues.

Lastly, the guys get into their weekly Pick One segment (regular edition) with each of them presenting two cards and debating which one is the better investment. The pairs this week include: Mike Trout Bowman Rookie Card vs. Mike Trout Topps Update Rookie Card; Luka Doncic Panini Silver Prizm vs. Patrick Mahomes Optic Holo; and Auston Matthews Young Guns PSA 10 (at $2.3K) vs. Connor McDavid Young Guns PSA 10 (at $3K).

Trying to Make Sense Again of Various Hobby Logic Issues; Discussing the 1/1 Wander Franco 2022 Topps Series 1 found in a pack at Walgreens; Can Lebron James Topps Chrome PSA 10 hit sub $5K? May 03, 2022
    Show notes

EPISODE 52 - Clark, Hyung and John start the show with their thoughts on the recent sale of the Wander Franco 2022 Topps Series 1 Platinum one-of-one card, and the fact that it was found in a pack sold at Walgreens.

The guys then discuss things that only make sense in the hobby, which they call "Hobby Logic" and try to make sense of it. For instance, why do the non-numbered Silver Prizm cards still sell for more than a numbered, more rare parallel of the same card? Or why do PSA 9 "Mint" condition cards sell for the same cost as a raw card (and sometimes less). Or why are some parallel cards like the Orange Wave which is numbered to 25 significantly less valuable than a True Orange Refractor also numbered to 25.

They also play "Match Game" again this week where they tried to decide which of the three cards or sets they would buy, sell, or hold without repeating any of the categories. The first example was deciding where to slot the following three choices: Precious Metal Gem (PMG) cards vs. Color Blast cards vs. Kaboom inserts.

Lastly, the guys get into their weekly Pick One segment (the Hot Takes edition) with each of them presenting two hobby hot takes and then deciding which one is more likely to happen. The pairs this week include: Paper Parallel Cards vs. Chrome Parallel Cards; There will be no ROI in Luka Doncic cards within 12 months vs. There will be no ROI in Juan Soto cards; and Lebron James Topps Chrome Rookie Card (PSA 10) will sell for sub $5K vs. Michael Jordan Fleer Rookie Card (PSA 9) will sell for less than $20K.

Speculating on Card Values of NBA Players Out of the Playoffs; An Education on The Association NFT Released by the NBA (And The Future of NFT Sports Collectibles) Apr 29, 2022
    Show notes

EPISODE 51 - Clark, Hyung and John kick off this Friday episode by speculating on the sports card values of players who are now out of the NBA playoffs, starting with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving of the Brooklyn Nets that were surprisingly swept. They also discuss whether they're still investing in Trae Young and Nikola Jokic.

Then Clark explains what The Association NFT released by the NBA is and how some collectors are able to 10x their initial investment in one day (as well as how others can easily lose money). Then Clark, Hyung and John also discuss the future of NFTs in the sports collectible space and who out of the three of them is the most likely to adopt NFTs last.
