    Canadian Club of Toronto

The Canadian Club of Toronto is Canada’s preeminent public affairs podium. Since 1897, we have served an ambitious and important mission: to connect Canadians with world-class leaders and newsmakers and be a leading platform for influencers to engage Canadians on what matters most.

Over our 125 year history as a not-for-profit organization, we continue to be a forum for Governors General and Prime Ministers, CEOs and Nobel laureates, scientists, artists and innovators. We have a proud tradition of hosting national and international leaders in politics, business, social innovation and the media, and our members and audiences are drawn from an equally diverse and distinguished group of leaders.

The Canadian Club addresses routinely generate national coverage across multiple platforms. In addition to reported media coverage and our in-person audience of several hundred people, we make our programming accessible to all Canadians through broadcasts on cable television and webcasts, available online.

Events run between September and June in downtown Toronto. As an independent, non-profit organization, we make all our events open to the public. Tickets can be purchased online or through our office at 416-364-5590.

Leadership in Action: Stories that Inspire a Nation

The Honourable Steven Del Duca Apr 04, 2018
    Show notes

From the depths of the recession, to recovery and job growth and to the trade challenges looming on the horizon, the story of Ontario’s economy in the last decade has been one of resilience and determination fueled by the ingenuity of our people. Join us on April 4 when The Honourable Steven Del Duca, Minister of Economic Development and Growth, lays out Ontario’s plan to compete and win in a complex global economy that requires smart, steady leadership. Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development and Growth, the Hon. Steven Del Duca has a proven track record of outstanding community involvement and a clear dedication to public service. Del Duca was first elected to the Ontario Legislature in September 2012 in a provincial byelection. He was re-elected in June 2014 and appointed Ontario’s Minister of Transportation in Premier Kathleen Wynne’s cabinet. As Minister, he oversaw the largest transit and transportation build in the history of the province of Ontario. GO Regional Express Rail, which is being built across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, is the single largest infrastructure project in Canada’s history, and will bring all-day two-way electrified rail service every 15 minutes to commuters across the GO network. This substantial investment in public transit will dramatically change the way people in the GTHA move across the region. Del Duca is also a strong supporter of commuter cycling as a means to improve your health, reduce emissions and ease congestion on Ontario’s roads. He oversaw the Ontario Municipal Commuter Cycling program, which will provide funding to municipalities in Ontario to build new or enhance existing commuter cycling infrastructure. This investment is designed to promote safety for cyclists and make cycling more comfortable and appealing for daily commutes and other frequent trips. In 2017, Minister Del Duca proposed new legislation protecting some of the most vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians, cyclists, seniors and children. Building on robust fines and sanctions for distracted and drug and alcohol-impaired driving that he introduced through the Making Ontario’s Roads Safer Acts, Del Duca proposed to strengthen those laws by introducing a zero tolerance for the presence of alcohol and drugs for all youth, novice and commercial drives, as well as the most robust fine and sanction structure for distracted driving and a new provision in the Highway Traffic Act for careless driving causing bodily harm and death. Del Duca obtained a bachelor of laws from Osgoode Hall law school in 2007. Previously, he studied political science and Canadian history at the University of Toronto and Carleton University. He is originally from Etobicoke, and first moved to Vaughan in 1987 when his family settled in Kleinburg. Today, he lives in Woodbridge with his wife and two daughters.

Housing is essential for everyone, yet too many people are being affected by the growing pressures of trying to buy a home or afford their rent. Join us on March 7th, when the Honourable Peter Milczyn, Minister of Housing, discusses the housing market and the work Ontario’s government is doing to increase housing supply and make it easier to buy or rent a home. Peter Milczyn was first elected to the Ontario legislature in 2014 as the MPP for Etobicoke-Lakeshore. Milczyn currently serves as Minister of Housing, as well as Minister Responsible for the Poverty Reduction Strategy. He was previously Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Labour, as well as to the Minister of Infrastructure and the Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs. Prior to that, he was Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure, focusing on Infrastructure. Milczyn graduated from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Architecture in 1989, and went on to found PZM Design, which focused on both private and public projects. He served as the Executive Director of Tatry Non-Profit Housing Corporation in Mississauga from 1993-1994. His interest in urban planning led him into municipal politics. He was elected as a councillor in the former City of Etobicoke in 1994, and later continued to represent Etobicoke on Toronto City Council for fourteen years. Milczyn is fluent in Polish and French. He grew up in Mimico and is a lifelong resident of Etobicoke, where he and his wife are proudly raising their daughter.
