    Canadian Club of Toronto

The Canadian Club of Toronto is Canada’s preeminent public affairs podium. Since 1897, we have served an ambitious and important mission: to connect Canadians with world-class leaders and newsmakers and be a leading platform for influencers to engage Canadians on what matters most.

Over our 125 year history as a not-for-profit organization, we continue to be a forum for Governors General and Prime Ministers, CEOs and Nobel laureates, scientists, artists and innovators. We have a proud tradition of hosting national and international leaders in politics, business, social innovation and the media, and our members and audiences are drawn from an equally diverse and distinguished group of leaders.

The Canadian Club addresses routinely generate national coverage across multiple platforms. In addition to reported media coverage and our in-person audience of several hundred people, we make our programming accessible to all Canadians through broadcasts on cable television and webcasts, available online.

Events run between September and June in downtown Toronto. As an independent, non-profit organization, we make all our events open to the public. Tickets can be purchased online or through our office at 416-364-5590.

The Honourable Peter Bethlenfalvy Mar 25, 2021
    Show notes

As the province continues to battle COVID-19, Ontario’s 2021 Budget focuses on protecting health and jobs today – because we can’t have a healthy economy without healthy people. When it comes to health care, Minister Bethlenfalvy is also looking to the future. He’ll make the case that while the provinces are investing more and more, the federal government is no longer paying their fair share. This poses a real threat and urgent action is required. Join Canadian Club Toronto and Minister Bethlenfalvy on March 25 to learn more about this pressing issue and to discuss the government’s comprehensive action plan that will protect the people of Ontario through COVID-19 and beyond. The Minister will be joined in conversation by Adrienne Batra, Editor in Chief of Toronto Sun. Peter Bethlenfalvy is President of the Treasury Board, Minister of Finance, and Minister Responsible for Digital and Data Transformation. He was elected as MPP for Pickering—Uxbridge in 2018. Minister Bethlenfalvy is responsible for ensuring Ontario’s long-term fiscal sustainability and providing the fiscal firepower needed to protect the health and wellbeing of Ontarians in the face of COVID-19. Through his role as President of the Treasury Board, he is responsible for the province’s expenditure management efforts, the government’s internal audit work, and is the official employer of the province’s public servants. Minister Bethlenfalvy led the creation of Ontario’s Office of the Comptroller General – the first of its kind in any Canadian province – and is Chair of the Future State Modernization Committee. As Minister of Finance, he is responsible for the management of the province’s finances and building the environment for long-term economic prosperity. In the face of COVID-19, Minister Bethlenfalvy is focused on providing the supports Ontario families, workers, and businesses need through the pandemic. As the province charts its long-term recovery, he is working to ensure our health care system, communities and economy are positioned to emerge stronger than ever before. As Minister Responsible for Digital and Data Transformation, he leads the government’s modernization initiatives, which are being brought to life through Ontario Onwards: Ontario’s COVID-19 Action Plan. Among these initiatives is the government’s Digital Identity initiative that aims to create a safe, secure, and convenient way to authenticate your identity online. These programs aim to transform how citizens interact with their government by making services more convenient and accessible.

Critical Minerals Supply Chains in the Post-COVID Economy Mar 17, 2021
    Show notes

The security of critical minerals and materials supply has become a significant concern for governments in light of disruptions to global supply chains caused by COVID-19. For Canada, this is a matter of national, economic and technological importance. With Northern Ontario’s vast mineral wealth, opportunity is knocking for the province to demonstrate significant leadership and position itself as a high-tech and clean energy manufacturing hub. Since many of these minerals and associated industrial capacity are vital for renewable energy and electric vehicle technology, a cohesive strategy will strongly support Ontario’s post-COVID economic recovery efforts. With opening remarks from the Honourable Greg Rickford, join Canadian Club Toronto on March 17 for a discussion on Ontario’s role in this important debate, and how active equity participation in critical minerals development projects by Indigenous businesses and communities and sound fiscal and regulatory policy are building the path to prosperity in Northern Ontario. This expert panel will be moderated by the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Vice-Chair, Global Investment Banking, CIBC Capital Markets and will feature: Donald Bubar – President and CEO, Avalon Advanced Materials Inc. Chris Hodgson – President, Ontario Mining Association Dawn Madahbee Leach – Vice Chair, National Indigenous Economic Development Board & General Manager, Waubetek Business Development Corporation The Honourable Greg Rickford – Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines & Minister of Indigenous Affairs
