    Canadian Club of Toronto

    The Canadian Club of Toronto is Canada’s preeminent public affairs podium. Since 1897, we have served an ambitious and important mission: to connect Canadians with world-class leaders and newsmakers and be a leading platform for influencers to engage Canadians on what matters most.

    Over our 125 year history as a not-for-profit organization, we continue to be a forum for Governors General and Prime Ministers, CEOs and Nobel laureates, scientists, artists and innovators. We have a proud tradition of hosting national and international leaders in politics, business, social innovation and the media, and our members and audiences are drawn from an equally diverse and distinguished group of leaders.

    The Canadian Club addresses routinely generate national coverage across multiple platforms. In addition to reported media coverage and our in-person audience of several hundred people, we make our programming accessible to all Canadians through broadcasts on cable television and webcasts, available online.

    Events run between September and June in downtown Toronto. As an independent, non-profit organization, we make all our events open to the public. Tickets can be purchased online or through our office at 416-364-5590.

    Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, Canada’s community pharmacies and pharmacists have been on the frontline of care. Despite unprecedented uncertainty, pharmacists continue to provide access to health, wellness, and home essentials. Join Canadian Club on February 3 as we welcome Jeff Leger, President, Shoppers Drug Mart for a candid discussion on how pharmacies have stayed focused on patient care, prescription therapies, and new digital services, all while embracing urgent challenges like COVID-19 testing. In conversation with David Simmonds, Jeff will share Shoppers’ vision for the future of health care in pharmacy, including how Canadian pharmacists can support a comprehensive rollout of emerging COVID19 vaccines. Jeff Leger was appointed President of Shoppers Drug Mart in January 2018. Prior to that, he held the position of Executive Vice President, Pharmacy and Healthcare, since December 2015. Jeff is a licensed pharmacist and has worked in the hospital and generic pharmaceutical manufacturing sectors prior to joining Shoppers Drug Mart in 2008 as Director, Category Management. Since joining Shoppers Drug Mart Jeff has held roles of increasing responsibility including Vice President, Pharmacy Procurement; SVP, Pharmaceutical Partnerships and MediSystem Pharmacy and SVP, Loblaw Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Partnerships. During his tenure, Jeff made significant contributions to both SDM and Loblaw on the Pharmacy front, in addition to leading the organization’s vision of becoming Canada’s leader in consumer Health and Wellness. As an active contributor to industry associations, Jeff also held the position of Chair, Neighbourhood Pharmacies Board of Directors. He was recently recognized as Chain Drug Review’s 2019 Retailer of the Year! Jeff holds a BSc. Pharm. from Dalhousie University and M.B.A. from Université de Moncton.

At the same time, many of their governing bodies are freezing or even calling for their budgets to be reduced.     As we enter a new year, we remain focused on the social and economic challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, we are also on the road to economic recovery, aided by the deployment of vaccines and other measures which will enable the economy to rebound and grow. As we come back, we have an opportunity to build a stronger Canadian economy – one that is focused on sustainability and that recognizes the critical value of inclusion to maximizing our potential. Join Canadian Club Toronto on January 27th as Victor Dodig, President & CEO of CIBC, takes our podium to discuss the responsibility that organizations and leaders have when it comes to building a sustainable, inclusive economy of the future. Following Mr. Dodig’s remarks, he will join a panel with other business leaders to discuss the key issues of sustainability and inclusion. The panel will be moderated by Amber Kanwar, Anchor & Reporter, BNN Bloomberg and will feature – Rola Dagher – Global Channel Chief, Dell Technologies – Richard Manley – Managing Director, Head of Sustainable Investing, CPPIB Victor Dodig was named President and CEO of the CIBC group of companies, one of North America’s leading financial services institutions, in September 2014. During his tenure, Victor has helped usher in a new era for the bank, positioning CIBC as a relationship-oriented bank for a modern world. In 2016, he led the acquisition of The PrivateBank, establishing a strong North American platform for CIBC to serve clients and deliver future growth. Victor brings more than 25 years of extensive business and banking experience, having led CIBC’s Wealth Management, Asset Management, and Retail Banking businesses. Over the course of his career, Victor has also led several businesses with UBS and Merrill Lynch in Canada and internationally, and was a management consultant with McKinsey & Company. A member of CIBC’s Board of Directors, Victor also serves on the board of the C.D. Howe Institute and is Vice-Chair of the Business Council of Canada. Mr. Dodig is a vocal advocate for inclusion in the workplace and is chair of the Inclusion and Diversity Leadership Council at CIBC and a co-chair of the BlackNorth Initiative. He is serving as a member of the global Catalyst Board of Directors, past Chair of the Catalyst Canada Advisory Board and past Chair of the 30% Club Canada. In 2017, he was recognized as a Catalyst Canada Honours Champion for his leadership in advancing gender diversity.
