    Canadian Club of Toronto

The Canadian Club of Toronto is Canada’s preeminent public affairs podium. Since 1897, we have served an ambitious and important mission: to connect Canadians with world-class leaders and newsmakers and be a leading platform for influencers to engage Canadians on what matters most.

Over our 125 year history as a not-for-profit organization, we continue to be a forum for Governors General and Prime Ministers, CEOs and Nobel laureates, scientists, artists and innovators. We have a proud tradition of hosting national and international leaders in politics, business, social innovation and the media, and our members and audiences are drawn from an equally diverse and distinguished group of leaders.

The Canadian Club addresses routinely generate national coverage across multiple platforms. In addition to reported media coverage and our in-person audience of several hundred people, we make our programming accessible to all Canadians through broadcasts on cable television and webcasts, available online.

Events run between September and June in downtown Toronto. As an independent, non-profit organization, we make all our events open to the public. Tickets can be purchased online or through our office at 416-364-5590.

Diversity at work in Canada: Breaking the Bias Mar 08, 2022
    Show notes

The year’s International Women’s Day theme is Break the Bias. Can you image a world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination? A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. According to a recent McKinsey report, there is still work to be done, and although organizations have made a start on DE&I, we still have a long way to go—particularly for women, and people of colour. Nearly 70% of employees reported that their organizations prioritize DE&I, yet only 35% of employees reported that their companies had substantially followed through on their commitments. How can we hold organizations accountable so that employees have equitable access to workplace opportunities now, and in the future. In celebration of International Women’s Day, join Canadian Club Toronto on March 8 for a conversation with Sandrine Devillard (Senior Partner, McKinsey), Rania Llewellyn (President & CEO, Laurentian Bank) & Dr. Homer Tien (President & CEO, Ornge), moderated by Cheesan Chew (COO, RBC Ventures).

Workers build Ontario. How can we ensure our future is one where they are protected, have bigger paycheques, and can take full advantage of new technologies and ways of working? Join Canadian Club Toronto on March 3, in person or online, for a discussion with The Honourable Monte McNaughton on his Working for Workers bills and the way forward to building a better Ontario that puts workers and families in the driver’s seat. The Minister will be joined in conversation by Jake Hirsch-Allen, North America Workforce Development and Higher Ed System Lead at LinkedIn. Monte McNaughton is a politician, community leader, and former small company owner from southwestern Ontario. He is the MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex and Minister of Labour, Training, and Skills Development. As a member of Provincial Parliament, he is now serving his third straight term. In June 2018, Monte was sworn in as the Minister of Infrastructure for the province of Ontario. He started on an intensive engagement across Ontario on previously ignored infrastructure needs as Minister. Monte introduced legislation to bring natural gas to rural areas of the province, as well as a plan to bring high-speed internet to underserved areas. He declared in 2018 that he would invest in renovating Canada’s most renowned concert hall, Massey Hall. In June 2019 Monte was appointed Minister of Labour. He has since opened a new dialogue with Ontario’s labour partners. This has included meeting with more than 150 labour leaders in his first four months as minister. In October 2019 his portfolio was expanded to include Training and Skills Development.
