    Canadian Club of Toronto

The Canadian Club of Toronto is Canada’s preeminent public affairs podium. Since 1897, we have served an ambitious and important mission: to connect Canadians with world-class leaders and newsmakers and be a leading platform for influencers to engage Canadians on what matters most.

Over our 125 year history as a not-for-profit organization, we continue to be a forum for Governors General and Prime Ministers, CEOs and Nobel laureates, scientists, artists and innovators. We have a proud tradition of hosting national and international leaders in politics, business, social innovation and the media, and our members and audiences are drawn from an equally diverse and distinguished group of leaders.

The Canadian Club addresses routinely generate national coverage across multiple platforms. In addition to reported media coverage and our in-person audience of several hundred people, we make our programming accessible to all Canadians through broadcasts on cable television and webcasts, available online.

Events run between September and June in downtown Toronto. As an independent, non-profit organization, we make all our events open to the public. Tickets can be purchased online or through our office at 416-364-5590.

Canada’s transition to a net-zero economy will require sound public policy, innovative new technologies and significant investment. But success ultimately relies on the people working the jobs that will make the transition a reality. As noted in a recent RBC report, the transition will disrupt more than three million Canadian jobs over the next ten years. Fortunately, many employers are already finding ways to train new workers or reskill current employees to meet the opportunities of a net-zero future. Join Canadian Club Toronto on March 10 to hear John Stackhouse, Senior Vice-President in the Office of the CEO at RBC, moderate a discussion with Canadian business leaders – representing different communities and sectors – who are navigating this transition: Sharleen Gale – Chief, Fort Nelson First Nation Linda Hasenfratz – CEO, Linamar John Kousinioris – President & CEO, TransAlta

The Honourable Steven Guilbeault Mar 09, 2022
    Show notes

How do we reconcile the climate crisis with opportunities in the market? What market and policy signals are mobilizing economic forces towards emission-cutting innovations across all sectors? Join Canadian Club Toronto on March 9 for a conversation with Canada’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Steven Guilbeault, about the market shift towards green investing and clean innovations, and how the Government of Canada’s first upcoming emission reduction plan, and other green financing investments, will help Canadian businesses thrive while creating sustainable middle class jobs. Steven Guilbeault is the Member of Parliament for Laurier–Sainte-Marie in Montreal and has been a leading figure in the fight against climate change throughout his career. From activist to strategic advisor for dozens of governments and businesses in Canada and abroad, Minister Guilbeault is a pragmatist who seeks to make a difference by building bridges and relationships. He was first elected in 2019 and appointed Minister of Canadian Heritage, where he supported the cultural sector throughout the pandemic and brought forward important pieces of legislation. Following the 2021 election, he was appointed Minister of the Environment and Climate Change. Minister Guilbeault’s commitment to the environment started at the age of five, when he climbed a tree to protect it from real estate developers who were about to cut down the woods behind his home in La Tuque, Quebec. Twenty-five years later, he scaled the CN Tower in Toronto to call for Canada to ratify the Kyoto Protocol. Steven cofounded Équiterre, the largest environmental organization in Quebec, in 1993 and acted as its senior director from 2007 to 2018. He also served as director and campaign manager for Greenpeace. A strategic advisor at Cycle Capital Management, a fund dedicated to the development of clean technologies, for more than ten years, he also worked for Deloitte and Touche and for Copticom, a consulting firm specializing in issues related to the green economy, the social economy and transportation.
