    Canadian Club of Toronto

The Canadian Club of Toronto is Canada’s preeminent public affairs podium. Since 1897, we have served an ambitious and important mission: to connect Canadians with world-class leaders and newsmakers and be a leading platform for influencers to engage Canadians on what matters most.

Over our 125 year history as a not-for-profit organization, we continue to be a forum for Governors General and Prime Ministers, CEOs and Nobel laureates, scientists, artists and innovators. We have a proud tradition of hosting national and international leaders in politics, business, social innovation and the media, and our members and audiences are drawn from an equally diverse and distinguished group of leaders.

The Canadian Club addresses routinely generate national coverage across multiple platforms. In addition to reported media coverage and our in-person audience of several hundred people, we make our programming accessible to all Canadians through broadcasts on cable television and webcasts, available online.

Events run between September and June in downtown Toronto. As an independent, non-profit organization, we make all our events open to the public. Tickets can be purchased online or through our office at 416-364-5590.

His Primary worldwide responsibilities involved the formulation and implementation of policies to strengthen the $18 billion corporation’s international interests and relationships. During the 90s, following his resignation due to a change of control of the corporation, he both independently and through partnership with the Ottawa consulting firm, Global Public Affairs and Taylor and Ryan Inc., New York, counseled clients on issues of political risk, international marketing and strategic accommodation with government. Dr. Rick Miner Feb 03, 2010

The end of the worldwide recession won’t necessarily mean a return to prosperity in Ontario. A new research report by Dr. Rick Miner shows that a huge portion of the province’s population in the years ahead will be simply unemployable, due to insufficient skills and education. This will leave employers struggling to fill vacant positions and create escalating social-assistance costs for government. Dr. Miner’s report constitutes a call to action for government, businesses and educators to address this urgent problem. Please join us on February 3rd when Dr. Rick Miner, President Emeritus of Seneca College and Independent Consultant with Miner Management Consultants discusses these trends and the future of Ontario’s Labour Market. Dr. Rick Miner, Seneca’s President Emeritus, served as Seneca President from August 2001 to July 2009, at which time he retired from that position. Prior to joining Seneca, he was Vice-President, University of New Brunswick for seven years. Before his term at UNB, he was at Saint Mary’s University in Nova Scotia where he served as Director of the Canada/China Language and Cultural Program from 1989 to 1993, Dean of Commerce from 1982 to 1987, and MBA Director from 1978 to 1981. Dr. Miner has also held faculty positions with the University of New Brunswick, the University of Toronto and Saint Mary’s University.

Hon. John Milloy Jan 18, 2010
    Show notes

From the beginning of its mandate, the McGuinty government set its sights on building a post-secondary education system that could compete with the best in the world. The government’s 5-year Reaching Higher plan to transform Ontario’s higher education system was launched in 2005 with an investment of $6.2 billion – the biggest single government investment in post-secondary education in almost half a century. Accessibility, quality and accountability have been the guiding principles. And now, the results of the transformation are in. On January 18th, The Canadian Club of Toronto is proud to bring to the business community the Hon. John Milloy, Ontario’s Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities to outline the success of the government’s Reaching Higher plan and discuss post-secondary education in the years ahead. John Milloy was first elected Member of Provincial Parliament for Kitchener Centre in 2003. He was re-elected in 2007 and appointed Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities on October 30, 2007. Minister Milloy was appointed Minister of Research and Innovation in June, 2009 and currently holds a dual portfolio.
