Beyond the Self with Africa Brooke

Welcome to our unfiltered corner of the net, created by me, Africa Brooke.

In a worldly sense, I am a globally acclaimed consultant, mentor, speaker, writer, and artist. My deepest desire with this podcast is to use my God given skills and gifts to remind us ALL of the power inherent in taking simple, consistent, and often uncomfortable steps towards personal integrity.

I’m all too aware that overwhelm and societal pressures make it easy to become fixated on external influences, tiptoe around potentially sensitive issues and cross our own boundaries in the process. And this kind of environment often leads to self-sabotage.

That’s where Beyond the Self steps in to be your guiding light. In this house, we FOCUS ON WHAT WE CAN CONTROL.

I will be using all my intellectual property, training, tools and wisdom to help you in uncovering your own blind spots and learning to tolerate discomfort so that you can rekindle curiosity, creativity, deeper and more intimate relationships, pleasure, play, and a sense of groundedness.

In every episode I’ll lay out encouraging insights about our shared human complexities, both messy and beautiful. I really do value a nuanced understanding and more importantly, practical, evidence-based tools and resources to help you integrate the learnings into your life.

If you’re looking for an uncompromising approach to personal development and life philosophy, you’ve found yourself in the right place. Here, we don’t hold back.

    Welcome to Beyond the Self.

Does it feel like you're being forced to choose between two worlds, and you can no longer straddle them anymore? Today I wanted to give you permission to choose, to let go of past versions of yourself and the ideologies that are not working. I know the struggle of holding onto versions of ourselves that no longer work, but I want to share in this episode the importance of making a decision and reintroducing ourselves to ourselves.
I also share where I've been, from celebrating my friend's wedding in the South of France to soaking up the sun in Lisbon, focusing on writing my book and enjoying the culture surrounding me here.

#045 - Do your public opinions match your private (and most honest) views? Mar 27, 2023
    Show notes

In November, I went on Instagram Live to pose this thought provoking question to my community:
Do your public opinions match your private (and most honest) views?
Today I'm sharing that live with you so you can hear my views on this question and how different people answer it.
Are you being effective with how you communicate or not? Are you willing to die on the hill for every opinion you give? Or are you staying silent in the public eye and showcasing your PR opinion? These are just some of the questions I ask you throughout this episode.
I also explore how timing, delivery, tone, and body language play a huge role in how our opinions come across to others. It's easy to have a brave voice online, but when it comes to being confident in person, we need to pay attention to these elements to see how we're coming off to people.
So if you're curious about this topic and want to hear different people's answers to this question, then press play!

#044 - What if your 'imposter syndrome' is pointing to an uncomfortable truth? Mar 20, 2023
    Show notes

This episode is a MUST LISTEN.
It's easy to believe you're not worthy, that you shouldn't be where you are, and that you lack the skills for your position. And maybe you're right, but is this really imposter syndrome?
Today I'm exploring imposter syndrome in a new light, so when you're listening to this episode, make sure you stay open to what I'm saying!
I also share my story of dealing with imposter syndrome and how my lack of experience was right; I wasn't ready, I was overestimating my capabilities.

Listen to episode 8 if you want to hear more on Imposter Syndrome.
