Free agent frenzy pt. 2 + mailbag Mar 18, 2020
    Show notes

The boys are back in town! Spencer hops back into the studio with Jake to discuss more of the madness that has been the new league year for 2020.Plenty of crazy things have happened this week, such as Tom Brady heading for Tampa Bay, Cam Newton being confirmed as on his way out of Carolina, Deandre Hopkins being shipped to Arizona for a bag of balls, and much, much, much... much... much... more. The guys have plenty to touch on in regards to all of that, before they jump into the Ravens related news, of which there is plenty. Hayden Hurst was traded for a 2nd and 5th round pick, Michael Brockers was brought in to team up with Calais Campbell and Brandon Williams, and James Hurst was somewhat surprisingly released. The guys get to all of that news before finally closing things out with a much needed mailbag (1:05:42). The mailbag has plenty of free agency and draft questions for you all to feast on and closes out this Wednesday episode, which we very much hope you all enjoyed. Hang in there, and we'll talk to you again very soon!

Calais Campbell trade, Judon Tagged, Listener Questions Mar 16, 2020
    Show notes

We hope you this pod finds you guys well in the midst of a pandemic breakout that's occurred since we last recorded, and that some good Ravens news will be just what you need top have your spirits lifted. There's been plenty of that to go around, as Eric DeCosta has begun to work his magic yet again, and Jake is joined by Vas (@VasilisBeatdown) to discuss it all and more. The Ravens have officially placed the franchise tag on Matt Judon, flipped a fifth round pick(!) for Calais Campbell, and made a few other small re-signings as well. Meanwhile, the new CBA has been agreed to which is something the guys touch on as well. Following that jam-packed news segment, the guys turn to Twitter to answer some listener questions in what's been a wild couple of days as a sports fan (30:03). We really hope you guys enjoy this one, and remember to be smart and stay safe out there.

Yanda out, Comp Picks in Mar 11, 2020
    Show notes

Between the combine and the opening of free agency, there isn't always a ton of news to get to, but that wasn't the case this week (at least in relation to the Ravens). The boys are here in celebration of 311 day to chop up several different things that came out today, namely the retirement of a franchise legend, the announcement of NFL compensatory picks, and the Ravens getting involved in the rule proposal business. After that, they jump into today's discussion segments (38:10) with the first one revolving around the idea of drafting a running back early, and the second one addressing whether or not Lamar Jackson will prove to be a lure to prospective free agent receivers. We really hope you guys enjoy, and we'll talk to you again soon!

Mock Draft Madness (Post Combine Edition) Mar 06, 2020
    Show notes

Friday is here, and so is a fresh first round mock draft for you beautiful people to feast your fine ears on. The boys were champing at the bit to jump in studio and record another one of these for you, but of course had to wait until the NFL Combine had officially concluded so they could do so to full effect. The wait was worth it, as a very fun hour and a half took place in which they went back and forth picking players for each of the 32 teams. Jake was first on the clock for Cincinnati this time, and after a few obvious selections out of the way, things began to take a very unconventional and fun turn. We won't say anything more than that with the hopes that you'll tune into this one (we'll actually be very disappointed if you made it this far and chose not to...). Regardless, we hope you guys like this one, and let us what you think on social! Have a great weekend.

Combine Mega Mailbag Mar 04, 2020
    Show notes

The boys are back for this fine Wednesday to give you guys the NFL combine recap (with a Ravens perspective) that you're looking for. They do so largely by fielding your questions from social media - user submissions to @PodcastBeatdown on Twitter and @baltimore_beatdown are the anchor of the ship for today's episode as the boys have an hours' worth of questions to answer from there, so strap in and enjoy. They relate largely to last week's combine as mentioned, but other questions enter the fray as well (in relation to free agency, offseason approach etc... even the Coronavirus gets a mention). Hopefully we got to your questions in this one, but if not feel free to keep hitting us up and we'll be sure to try and get your question read for you. We hope you guys enjoy, and we'll see you next time!

Jonas Shaffer + Combine Talk Feb 28, 2020
    Show notes

The boys are back after a very eventful week and have a ton of news to catch up on, and a very fun interview for you all as well. As far as news goes, the NFL CBA talks are heating up down in Indianapolis, a Ravens coordinator got a healthy contract extension (and some coaching positions were shaken up), and a certain third year tight end is potentially on the trading block. Following all of that, the guys have the honor of welcoming on a friend of the show, the Baltimore Sun's Jonas Shaffer (@jonas_shaffer) (37:10) who was in Indy this week to cover the combine. His lengthy chat with Jake dives deep into what it's like to cover the event as a reporter, his favorite press conferences he got to attend, some memorable encounters with prospects, and much, much more. We hope you guys enjoy, and see you all again next week!

Combine preview with Connor Rogers Feb 20, 2020
    Show notes

What's up guys? It's almost combine week, that's what's up. The boys are absolutely stoked to see a bunch of 20 something men running around an indoor field in spandex, and decided to throw together a quick preview for you guys to enjoy. There's no one in the Baltimore Beatdown Podcast expanded Universe that's better for something like that than friend of the show Connor Rogers (ConnorJRogers) from Bleacher Report, so they dialed him up to have a chat from the perspective of somebody who's covered the event before and will be attending it this year. Topics include drills to watch, what goes on in those mysterious meeting rooms, Indianapolis' place on the scale of great American cities, and much, much more. Hope you guys enjoy this interview, and the combine, and we'll see you all next week.

Mock Draft Monday Feb 17, 2020
    Show notes

The boys are back in the studio on this fine Monday and have plenty to discuss, starting off with some news. That includes a suspension for a rotational offensive lineman, the release of a fan favorite veteran safety, and the re-signing of a lesser recognized player at the same position. That then allows for them to open up the mailbag for the first time in a bit, with plenty of great topics ranging from Marlon Humphrey's potential acting career, to the pronunciation of "Calais" and many, many others. They then debut their new segment, "Mock Draft Monday" which is exactly as it sounds - the boys go back and forth on a first round mock draft from 1 to 32. Buckle up, it's draft season!

    The 2020 Beatdown Awards! Feb 12, 2020
    Show notes

It's Wednesday my dudes. The boys are here for you with this jam packed hump day episode. There's a ton of news to discuss to kick things off, including a contract extension for an ascending player (which they called a few months back), some news on the hypothetical quarterback carousel which is starting to spin up, and some fun news involving the Oscars Ceremony and a former Raven. They then jump into their topics for the day, first starting off with a chat about the recently launched XFL, and where they're at with it after it's first weekend. Finally, they get into the main show, The Beatdown Awards(TM). This is an award show centered around the 2019 season meant to honor the players who comprised the best regular season in Ravens history. We hope you guys enjoy, and see you again soon.
