35-Great Plains Nature Center Feb 11, 2022

The Great Plains Nature Center sitting smack dab in the middle of the Chisholm Creek Park is like getting out into the natural prairie without having to leave Wichita. This 282 acres with 2 1/2 miles of paved trails is FREE to the public and open 7 days a week while the Nature Center provides educational experiences for all ages.
We were fortunate enough to sit down with Amanda Alessi - Director of the Great Plains Nature Center so she could walk us through a little history of the center as well as what they are currently up to. It was a very educational experience and we hope you all enjoy!

34-Historic Delano District Feb 04, 2022

Before Delano was a part of Wichita - it was the center of lawlessness on the Chisholm Trail. Cowboys would come to bathe nude, participate in drinking and gambling, and get themselves into gun fights. Eventually Wichita couldn't turn a blind eye any longer and incorporated Delano or West Wichita into the city. Delano today is vastly different than it was in cowboy days but it is still a great place to shop and eat and hang out.

One of the greatest running backs of all time, if not THE greatest running back of all time, is from (you guessed it) Wichita! Barry Sanders is most likely the best athlete to ever come out of Wichita (next to your three favorite podcast hosts, of course) and we walked through his history of growing up in Wichita, attending school at Oklahoma State University, and his short but amazing career in the NFL. Beyond being a great athlete, he is the type of person all of us can strive to being like every day and the city of Wichita is proud to call him one of our own.

College Hill is known in the Wichita community as one of the most beautiful neighborhoods you will find anywhere in the city. These elegant houses, which are starting to hit their century marks, were built with character, care, and love. Our technical director and local realtor (and David's wife) Emily Hahn is a big fan of the College Hill homes so she came in to assist David as he looked through the history. She was able to put into words what makes this neighborhood so special and unique while David gave us a look at how the neighborhood came about and what it looks like today.

The burger industry (let alone the fast food industry as a whole) would not be the same if it was not for White Castle. And where did White Castle begin? Good guess - Wichita!
We sat down at Jimmie's Diner to have a meal and discuss the rich history how White Castle shaped the world 100 years ago. They were truly the first chain restaurant to build an infrastructure and system to make sure their product was perfected and standardized across the board. And if not for White Castle, Jimmie's Diner would also not exist. Join us as we walk through the histories of both White Castle and Jimmie's Diner and how they are closely related today.
