#95 - Dr. Ryan Lowery | My Thoughts on The College Admissions Scandal Mar 19, 2019
    Show notes

    Episode #95

Does where you go to college really matter? Is it even necessary to go to college at all to become successful? These are tough questions to answer. In this episode I talk about my thoughts on the recent college admissions scandal that is all over the news. At the end of the day I believe what dictates your success is internally your work ethic, who you’re surrounding yourself with, and the connections you make along the journey. Going to the most prestigious college in the world won’t make up for those things. A college is a business. Be smart. Don’t go into thousands of dollars in debt based on a “promising, successful future” they can’t deliver.

    Enjoy The Show!

    Takeaways

Hollywood doesn’t often cross paths with academia, but ever since the recent admissions scandal it’s shown light on how broken the college system really is. In this episode of What the Fat, I talk about my thoughts on the situation and share my opinion about college degrees and if they’re really necessary when it comes to achieving a successful career.

#86 - Tom Naughton | If I'd Known This My Whole Life Would've Been Different Jan 16, 2019
    Show notes

    Episode #86

Tom Naughton believes “you’ve been fed a load of bologna.” The Fat Head director began filming his movie as a comedic response to the national phenomenon Supersize Me, but soon realized how everything he thought he knew about nutrition was wrong. Extensive research and interviews with medical professionals inspired Tom to change his way of living. He and his kids moved out of L.A. and started a sustainable farm to supply their new low-carb way of life. Today on What The Fat, Dr. Ryan Lowery interviews Tom on his health-journey, the inspiration behind Fat Head, and his latest piece of work: Fat Head Kids.

    Enjoy the show!

    Takeaways

There is no one-size-fits-all diet, but we do know the current U.S. government low-fat diet recommendation is wildly misleading. Research paper after research paper have proven that high-fat diets are not linked to obesity or heart disease; however, these ideas are still taught to many Americans. It is this lack of true knowledge on diet and health that has lead to the overconsumption of sugar and increased incidence of obesity and obesity-related illnesses.

“We don’t aim for perfection. We aim to keep them [the children] on a good diet most of the time and it’s working.”

“I think I’ve given them the tools to make the smart decisions and they are kids. They aren’t always going to make the smart decision, but heck I’m a 60-year-old-man and I don’t always make the smart decision.”

“Once you know what certain foods do to you, it becomes increasingly difficult to make the bad decision and do it on purpose, because you know what you’re doing to yourself.”

“I don’t want the U.S. government or any other organization declaring here is the one diet for everyone, because there’s no such thing as the one diet that’s correct for everyone.”

“If you can’t explain this to a 6th-grader, you don’t really know it.”
