    Show notes

    Episode #105

This week on What The Fat I talk with the brilliant MD, Dr. Paul Saladino. Dr. Saladino trained at the University of Arizona with a focus on Integrative Medicine. He went on to residency at the University of Washington in psychiatry and is a certified Functional Medicine practitioner (IFMCP) through the Institute for Functional Medicine. His interests include the autoimmune basis of psychiatric illness, connections between the microbiome and mental health, and nutritional biochemistry. In this episode, we dive deep into the benefits of the carnivore diet and discuss topics such as the ethics behind consuming meat, why we don’t actually need fiber or plants in the human diet, and how to get all of the nutrients you need from eating an animal nose to tail.

    Enjoy the Show!

    Takeaways

Paul has always been passionate about finding and understanding the root cause of his patients problems and is fascinated by the role nutrition plays in disease. He believes that if done correctly, the carnivore diet can be a great tool to utilize for optimal health and that a plant based diet could actually do more harm than good.

    Episode #104

In this episode of What The Fat, I talk about a frustrating conversation I overheard at the gym. The guy was complaining about how miserable he was at his high paying job and how he couldn’t wait to go to Cancun for a weekend trip with his wife. This really struck a cord with me and got me thinking about choosing a career based off of fulfillment and passion vs one of monetary significance. Unfortunately, I think a lot of people can relate to wishing away their week waiting for the weekend or some future event to be “happy”. In this episode I hope to shift your perspective on work and life and help you realize that at the end of the day you’re ultimately the one who makes the choice.

    Enjoy The Show!

    Takeaways

Do you wish away the week dreaming about the weekend? If so this episode is for you. At the end of the day, we have to realize that we are in control of our own lives and happiness. When you stop saying “I have to” and start saying “I choose to” you start to see that you hold the power and not someone else.

    #102 - Dr. Ryan Lowery | I Won The Lottery May 07, 2019
    Show notes

    Episode #102

So many people are trapped in this whirlwind of negativity and they don’t even know it. It’s not like they’re going around saying, "I want to be negative", they just get caught up in it. Someone cuts them off in the morning, then they spill their coffee, then they get mad at their coworker, then they go home at night because they had a horrible day and get in a fight with their partner and it just spirals on to the next day. They get trapped. My mission in life and goal of this podcast is to get people unstuck from the negativity trap and encourage them to realize how lucky they are to have the life they have. Each day when we wake up to live another day - we’ve won the ultimate lottery. Don’t waste it on things that don’t matter.

    Enjoy the show!

    Takeaways

In this episode of What The Fat, I challenge you to shift your perspective. When you wake up tomorrow, realize that you’ve won the lottery. Realize that so many people would pay and give so much to be in the situation you’re in right now. Don’t waste it - don’t spend your days doing dumb things. Take what you’ve won - which is the day - and utilize it to your best ability.

#99 - Dr. Ryan Lowery | How Valuable Is Time To You? Apr 17, 2019
    Show notes

    Episode #99

What value do you place on time? It doesn’t matter who you are, where you’re from or what you’re doing, we all have the same 24 hours. It’s what you do with those 24 hours that matters. Time is a finite resource, one day our clocks will run out. When you look back will you be able to say you spent your time the way you wanted to? Or did you waste it? In this episode of What The Fat, I challenge you to shift your perspective on the value of time and how you’re using it currently in your life.

    Enjoy The Show!

    Takeaways

One thing we all have the same of is time. Often times we discount the value of time, because we feel we have plenty. We take it for granted because it is always there, but what if it wasn’t? Don’t wait for a massive life crisis or event to wake you up and make you realize how precious this life is. Time is the most valuable thing we have, spend it wisely.

“The time that I did have, did I spend it the way I wanted to spend it? Or did I try to wait, wait, and procrastinate and think that I had this unlimited amount of time and then it's not until it's too late or some serious crisis happens that you look back and wish you had more of it.”

    Show notes

    Episode #97

Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of questions regarding fasting, so I wanted to share my thoughts. Whether you're fasting to get into a deeper state of ketosis, experience Autophagy, for spiritual reasons, or to build up resiliency to food, there’s no right or wrong way to fast. It is hard to define what constitutes a fast because it is completely dependent on your end goal. Fasting has many great benefits and at the end of the day its about context and what you are trying to accomplish.

    Enjoy the show!

    Takeaways

Does coffee break a fast? Exogenous ketones? Sweeteners? Water? How long should I fast? What time of day? Fasting can be hard to define and there is no one answer to these questions. At the end of the day it comes down to what is your goal and what are you trying to accomplish by fasting. In this episode on What The Fat, I address some of the most common questions I get asked about fasting and how to avoid some of the most common pitfalls.
