How can we build a life where we can pause and slow down a bit to avoid feeling overwhelmed in our everyday life? Join Anne Helen Petersen and I as we talk about the systemic issues affecting burnout as well as how all of this has been amplified thanks to Covid-19.

    Show notes

Welcome back to Voices of Your Village! On this episode of Voices of Your Village, I sit down with Alfie Kohn, an author and speaker who is widely known for his work on unconditional love and moving away from punishment-reward systems. This is an episode unlike any we’ve ever released before. Frustrated with and silenced by her guest, for the first time in podcast history, Alyssa Blask Campbell provides commentary on her interview to express what she was unable to during her conversation. We hope you enjoy this rebroadcast of a very special episode.

    147 - An alternative to obedience Nov 19, 2020
    Show notes

Hey there, villagers! On episode 147 of the podcast I got to sit down with Casey Myers to discuss an alternative to obedience. We got nerdy about child development and ways that we can best support these tiny humans. Listen in to hear how our social programming, biases and the way we were raised comes up for us when responding to the tiny humans’ emotions. How else can we navigate this outside of the obedience mindset that so many of us grew up with? Casey lays out a framework for different ages and stages that is attainable and digestible.

    Show notes

Welcome back to Voices of Your Village! Today on episode 144 of the podcast I am talking about a hot topic. Lying can be such a triggering subject for so many parents because of our own experiences in childhood and our perceptions of what it means to lie. I sat down this week to talk about why kids lie and how you can build a relationship of trust with your kiddos, where they feel safe to tell you the truth.

    141 - Cultivating a secure attachment with Sam Casey Oct 08, 2020
    Show notes

Welcome to episode 141 of Voices of Your Village! All of our work here at Seed focuses on how to foster and build a secure attachment with kiddos. Today I am hanging out with Sam Casey, she is a licensed clinical social worker from Australia, a play therapist, and a momma. We dove into what secure attachment looks like and how exactly we foster an attachment where kids don’t feel responsible for our feelings and how we respond to them with intention. This will set the basis for all of their relationships to come. There are so many tangible tips and pieces of support throughout this episode. It is fire! And it has been so hard not to release it as soon as we recorded it, months ago. I am so jazzed for y’all to dive into this bad boy today. Let’s get started!

140 - Cultural appropriation vs. appreciation with Dr. Neal Lester Oct 01, 2020
    Show notes

Hey there, villagers! Welcome to episode 140 of Voices of Your Village! Today I got to interview Dr. Neal Lester, a professor of English at Arizona State University who studies African American Literature and Culture. I wanted to dive into conversation with Dr. Lester about cultural appropriation vs appreciation. This was a topic I personally had a lot of questions about and you villagers submitted a lot of questions about as well. In addition to addressing this topic as we move toward Thanksgiving and Halloween, I also find it to be important for us to dive into in our day to day life. Dr. Lester brought up so many crucial ways for us to consider and be mindful of cultural appropriation in our everyday life. This is an ongoing process. It isn’t something where you are going to have one conversation with a kid and it is going to be done and over with.

I learned a lot from this conversation and I am really jazzed to bring it to your ears today. Let’s dive in!
