The Rafay Family Murders Part 1 Mar 09, 2023

Show notes

It was July 13, 1993. Just after 2 AM, a call came into 911 from a residence in the Somerset area of Bellevue, Washington asking for an ambulance. The caller said there'd been some type of break in, and that he thought his friend's parents were dead. The caller was 19 year old Sebastian Burns, and the friend he mentioned was 18 year old Atif Rafay. They’d been best friends since high school, and he and Sebastian were visiting his parents in Bellevue during the summer break. They’d been there for 5 days when this happened.

They came home that night to find Atif's entire family murdered. A triple murder is not something often seen in Bellevue, and tips started pouring in from law enforcement agencies suggesting the murder might have been committed by religious extremists. But investigators only had eyes for Sebastian and Atif.

The Murder of Connie Dabate Mar 02, 2023

Show notes

It was two days before Christmas, 2015, when tragedy struck the Dabate house. Police were called to the scene to find 39 year old Rick Dabate lying on the floor in the kitchen, zip tied to a folding chair, surrounded by blood smears but alive. His wife Connie wasn't so lucky. Her body was found in the basement, killed by two gunshot wounds. Rick was able to tell police that this had all been the work of a masked intruder. He hadn't been able to get a good look at the intruder's face, and the only description police had to go on was that the intruder had a voice like Vin Diesel.

The Austin Servant Girl Murders Feb 23, 2023

Show notes

December 30, 1884 was the beginning of a nightmare in Austin, Texas when 25 year old Mollie Smith was murdered in the middle of the night, in her bed by an unknown intruder. Over the next 12 months, there would be 7 more murders almost exactly like it. All in the middle of the night, all shockingly violent. This was completely unprecedented, and quite possibly the first serial killer in the United States.

The Case of Clark Rockefeller Feb 16, 2023

Show notes

Sandra Boss was figuratively and literally a Boss. She had an undergraduate degree from Stanford, an MBA from Harvard, and now worked as an executive in New York City making $2 million dollars a year. She was respected. She was brilliant. And she was in love.

Lucky for her, that love just so happened to be with a Clark Rockefeller, yes of those Rockefellers: one of the most iconic names in American history. So what if he didn't have a penny to his name? So what if he didn't have any form of identification? One friend even jokingly asked Sandra "How do you know he's really Clark Rockefeller and not some ax murderer on the lam?" Sandra insisted she knew him best, but it would turn out that her friend wasn't so far off from the truth.

The Murder of Halee Rathgeber Feb 09, 2023

Show notes

Halee Rathgeber was a 20 year old student studying to be a nurse at the University of Southern Indiana when she was found murdered in the parking lot of a soccer field. She'd been shot in the back of the head, seemingly by someone she knew. Two suspects emerged: one a convicted rapist who might have known that Halee had information that could put him in prison for a long time. The other suspect was one of her best friends who just didn't seem like the type of person capable of something like this.
