    Tara Vellella, first and foremost, is a mom: She has two young kids and one on the way- due in early March! She lives on Maui, HI. She received her BA is in child psychology from the U of MN and then after teaching preschool abroad she went back and received an MA in behavior analysis and became a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst where she worked in schools, homes, and clinics with families of children with special needs. Her experience working in applied behavior analysis was within the confines of insurance, which is why she broke out and created Aloha Parent Coaching.

    After utilizing ABA strategies daily with her own kids and talking through the same tips with friends, she knew all parents could benefit from these resources. Aloha Parent Coaching is dedicated to spreading knowledge, support, and guidance so parents have a strategy in place to tackle those frustrating parts of parenthood and build a healthy relationship with their child.

    Ep 120: Teen Struggling with Addiction Feb 04, 2022
    Show notes

    Beth Syverson is a mom of an 18-year-old son Joey, who has been struggling with addiction and mental health issues for several years. She struggles with addiction as well, though not with the same substances as her son. This experience has given her empathy for her son's struggles. She has learned to maintain firm boundaries while still nurturing a positive relationship with Joey. She is walking beside Joey as he struggles with his recovery, while she works on her own personal growth and healing.

    Joey and Beth started Safe Home Podcast in August 2021 in order to help other families avoid the pain they've endured. Six weeks after it started, Joey relapsed, but he gave Beth his blessing to continue this important work, even suggesting an episode about relapse. Beth is continuing to provide interesting interviews with guests and looks forward to the day that Joey will join her on the podcast again.

    Shari Foos is a Marriage and Family Therapist, adjunct professor and the creator of The Narrative Method, a California 501c3 non-profit organization. Part of the Human Connection movement, TNM creates programs, products and experiences that address the growing isolation and need for real connection through sharing stories. Foos also co-founded the Bridge in 1999, a free humanities program for low-income adults at Antioch University Los Angeles. She received a MS in Narrative Medicine from Columbia University and a MA in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles.

    As a sought-after expert on the subject of relationships, remote group dynamics and meaningful connection, her writing and commentary have appeared in a range of online and print publications and podcasts, including Real Simple, Huffington Post, Women’s Health, KBLA, Fatherly, Thrive Global, Shondaland, The LA Weekly, Sparks & Honey Culture Briefings, Sondership, Let Pleasure be The Measure, and Bustle. Ms. Foos serves on the board of the City Kids Foundation and is the recipient of the New Directions for Veterans Community Hero Award (2015) and The Antioch University Los Angeles Lifetime Achievement Award (2016).

    Carrie Krawiec is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at Birmingham Maple Clinic in Troy, MI and formerly the Executive Director of the Michigan Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. Carrie specializes in treatment of individuals, couples and families with a special focus on communication, problem solving and improving relationships. Carrie is specifically trained in a model called Parent Management Training-Oregon a behavior management technique for parents to utilize with children to prevent and reduce behavior issues in school age children. Carrie is herself, a married mother of two-- a 7 year old boy and 4 year old girl.
