Episode 609: The Focus is Each other with Lauren Duke May 09, 2022
    Show notes

Get ready for this episode! Lauren Dollie Duke is a force within the yoga, trauma and healing community. She’s a writer, educator, entrepreneur, and community activist. She’s taught thousands of yoga students over the last 15 years, led dozens of international retreats, and continues to push the edge between yoga, mental health, and trauma.
She founded a one-of-a-kind community center and yoga studio in Encinitas, California. In a sea of corporate yoga, where most independent studios don't survive, she created a thriving community, teaching and hosting a variety of sold-out yoga classes, educational seminars, and writing workshops. She devotes her time to helping educate people on the anatomy of trauma and how those experiences are woven into the tapestry of our lives. She has studied with the world’s leading traumatologists: Bessel van der Kolk, Peter A. Levine, Gabor Mate, and Stephen Porges. Lauren's book, Sh!thouse: A Memoir, was published in January, 2022! You can purchase it through any major book retailer.

Episode 608: How The Unconscious Heals Trauma with Dr. Melanie Salmon May 05, 2022
    Show notes

Melanie Salmon is a medical doctor, gestalt psychotherapist, trauma specialist and teacher, and she’s committed her life to the exploration and practice of healing.
During her 40-years in medicine, Melanie became increasingly frustrated with the limited ability for pharmaceutical drugs to treat the cause of health issues including psycho-emotional conditions in her patients. To Melanie, it became clear that these problems were related to a dysfunctional nervous system caused by unresolved and unhealed trauma. This understanding led her to leave medicine to seek out a better way.
In 2008 she found it. Combining the best from many modalities including Gestalt psychotherapy, neuroscience, and epigenetics – drawing inspiration from both the traditional and modern – Dr Salmon created Quantum Energy Coaching (QEC), revolutionizing the way we approach healing. A simple, yet profoundly effective method that works with the subconscious mind, QEC is a clinically usable tool that heals the effects of past trauma and changes limiting beliefs rapidly and safely.

Episode 607: Psychedelics In The Treatment of Trauma with Sasha Cuff May 02, 2022
    Show notes

Sasha is the loving father of 3 boys ages 22, 18, and 12. Sasha says that his children have taught him much more about therapy than he ever learned in any psychology class.
He started sitting therapeutically with people 25 years ago. In the early days he used muscle testing, flower remedies and guidance from the spirit world to support people wanting better health.
Over the first 15 years of his practice, he observed that some people got better but many people were not getting much better at all.
For 25 years he searched for the roots of suffering and disease. Over those years he studied Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, energy healing, among other modalities, and he explored and practiced a multitude of spiritual paths
7 years ago, he became a Relational Somatic Therapist through Mariah Moser's Relational Somatic Therapy course, Opening to Grace, and between that and parenting, he is thrilled to claim that he has found the Holy Grail of healing. Most of what he practices and teaches he did not learn through school, rather, he learned it through sitting with people, in the trenches for 25 years, not knowing what he was doing, but sitting there with an earnest desire to get to the bottom of it!
Now he trains therapists, facilitates retreats, and has a thriving private practice in Kaslo BC.

Episode 603: Addressing Global Trauma with Harry Zeit, MD Apr 18, 2022
    Show notes

Harry Zeit MD, who last joined me on episode 416, currently works full-time practicing trauma therapy and psychotherapy. He is certified in sensorimotor psychotherapy, completing the final level of training in 2013, and he's a pretty incredibly inspiring individual!

Harry is active in the Medical Psychotherapy Association of Canada and held the position of education chairman of the OMA Section in Primary Mental Health Care/GP Psychotherapy between 2011 and 2016.
He created the Caring for Self while Caring for Others Series to meet what he perceived to be a growing need for the medical profession to face challenges around unremitting stress and burnout, and to differentiate these physiology-driven processes from a mental health model which favored treating burnout as anxiety or depression.
Harry is an advocate for trauma-informed and humane medical and mental health care. He is passionate about teaching and about cultivating the healing potential of traditional modalities integrated with newer somatic and neuroscience informed models.
