Episode No. 23 Relationships + Dream Work: How To Find Balance Between The Two Aug 12, 2018
    Show notes

Pssst. I have a little secret I want to share with you. Your fave isn't it going to say it because it's ugly + not at all that Instagram-- #RelationshipGoals-- worthy. But I will because you know, we're cool like that 😎. So here goes. The very second you decide to take the leap, to chase after your dreams, to finally reach that goal of yours-- it is going to take a toll on your friendships + relationships.Yep. I said it because I KNOW it.The minute you decide to go to the gym instead of drinking with the girls, things will begin to shift.Or when you decide to enroll in that real estate class instead of spending that money on another trip to Jamaica, get ready for some major side-eye eye from boothang. You see your loved ones are used to you showing up to every single thing, every single time. When they call, you answer. Texting? Yep, you're usually Johnny on the spot. But the dream work will require some dedication and focus from you. It will require sacrifice. It wants you to put in the time. Big time. They say it takes 10,000 hours to become a success. So how do you grind and do all the writing, the studying, the changing of eating habits, the praying, the exercising, the learning of a new skill-- while still maintaining healthy, loving relationships?Well, that's what we're discussing in today's episode of The Sunday Jumpstart. Why? Well because I've been there and seen it happen first hand. One huge mistake that I've made in my Creative Entrepreneurial journey is not being the best friend I could be to my loved ones. It’s hard to admit it but I’ve lost a very dear friend because of the hustle.I’ve missed graduations, baby showers, weddings and birthdays all because I was trying so hard to make this dream of mine work.So how do you do it? How do you chase after your Oprah sized goals and still show up for your loved ones? In today’s episode, we're going to talk about how to honor your purpose and still maintain healthy relationships and friendships.Check Out Episode No. 23Resources Mentioned In Today's Episode: The Productivity Show Episode No. 16 Creating Non-Negotiable Dream Work Hours Forest AppThis week's episode is brought to you byPretty Brown BoxGood Bye Miss, Hello Mrs. Box // Mommy & Me Gift Set // Custom Corporate Gift // Just Because BoxFounder of Pretty Brown Box, Lorielle JacksonToo many occasions & not enough time? Episode No. 22 How To Bounce Back From Burnout Aug 05, 2018
    Show notes

“If you need a break take one. Yes, even you--you blogger, biz owner, content creator, hustla, grinder, girl boss. Trust me that empire you’re building will still be there when you get back. Your rest + peace of mind is key to making all that you’re working on sustainable."As you probably have noticed The Sunday Jumpstart Podcast + NoRealJewelry was recently on a month-long hiatus. That's right I didn't create any new content during the entire month of July. Why? Well because your girl was completely BURNED OUT! Which is hard to admit because I am all about that #DreamChasing life. I have Oprah sized goals so I don't mind rolling up my sleeves to get dirty doing the dream work. But I overdid it and hustled so hard I wore myself out. So I had to press pause and get quiet so that I could take care of myself, reconnect with my why and strategize the next steps I want to take in my life and business.Related: Why I Took A Break + How It Helped Me Become A Better BloggerNow before I went completely off the internet grid I noticed that a few of bosses that I admire were also stepping back to take a breather from the non-stop grind. Grace Bonney of In The Company of Women* + Good Company Magazine* made her summer hiatus announcement after we chatted about needing a break over on Twitter.*=Denotes an affiliate link. Thanks for the support And it wasn't just Grace and I that felt the need to retreat. It was NY Times Best Seller Luvvie Ajayi, famed chef Nigella Lawson, and media Maven Necole Kane ( to name a few) that also said they were taking the summer off because they were burned out.Burn out is clearly real ( even the heavy hitters are tapping out) so I thought it'd do us all some good if we sat down and talked about it. So In today's episode of The Sunday Jumpstart Podcast, we're getting real about suffering from burnout + how to overcome it. Topics Discussed In Today’s Episode: How to tell if you're suffering from burnout. 7 ways to kick burnout in the butt. Giving yourself permission to take a break and not feel guilty about it. Does taking a break really hurt your business, hustle or goals? Episode No. 20 You’re Allowed To Change Direction (In Your Goals, Life + Career) Jun 03, 2018
    Show notes

Available on iTunes, Soundcloud, Stitcher + Google Play [Tweet "You're allowed to dream new dreams." -Jessica Lauren"]Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to be an actress. So I did what most aspiring young artists do-- I uprooted my life and moved away from my family and friends to pursue my acting career. I invested tens of thousands of dollars on headshots, classes, the whole nine. I went to audition after audition and heard hundreds of “Nos” until 2015. In 2015 my luck finally changed and I started booking major acting gigs, but guess what? I wasn't all that happy. You see, 2015 was also the same year that I started NoRealJewelry.Com and what started out as just a creative outlet for me quickly turned into my new found passion. My little blog showed me that there were other sides to me. I wasn’t just an actress like I thought I was my whole life. I discovered that deep down inside of me I was also a writer, a photographer, an encourager and many other things. So my dreams began to shift drastically. Being on stage, reading new scripts and auditioning no longer appealed to me. I was more interested in building a community of Dreamers + Doers and turning my "hobby" into a full-fledged business. In today's episode of The Sunday Jumpstart Podcast, I get super real and vulnerable about the new direction I'm taking in my life + how scary it is to give up on the one dream and goal i’ve had my whole entire life! This week I got an email that was super scary but was just what I needed to let go + move forward on my new journey and that’s what inspired today’s episode. So if you're anything like me and at a point in your life where your spirit has been itching to switch gears and you're ready to change direction or pivot in your goals, life or career--then this episode is for you!Topics Discussed In Today's Episode: Identifying if you’re ready to change direction or pivot. Preparing to take the leap into the new chapter in your life. How to show your friends and family how to support you as you begin your new journey. How to guard your new vision + create boundaries around it.Check Out Episode No. 20Resources Mentioned In Today's Episode:This post contains affiliate links. You gotta keep going!"[Tweet ""Sometimes the big "Yes" comes after the 50th "No". That's why you can't ever let a "no" stop you. You gotta keep going!"]Last week in Episode No. 18-- we talked about "Committing To 100 No's".A lot of us tend to give up on our goals + dreams because we hear the word "no". We go to that one audition, apply for that one business loan or ask for the big promotion once and if we get rejected we run back to our safe + cozy comfort zones.Well, the idea behind "committing to 100 no's" is to look rejection square in the face and stay committed to the goal chase REGARDLESS of the outcome. Some doors may slam but eventually one WILL open, but you'll never know if you give up after your first try.In this week's episode: we'll delve a little deeper and explore how to actually shoot your shot! I'll show you where to find amazing opportunities and super easy ways to go after them.Topics Discussed In Today's Episode: How one Tweet landed me a paid brand partnership with Target! The art of sliding through DM's. How to use Twitter + Facebook to find community, book gigs + perfect your craft. Episode No. 18 Committing To 100 No’s May 13, 2018
    Show notes

Available on iTunes, Soundcloud, Stitcher + Google Play One of the reasons we never achieve our goals is because we let one little word stand in our way; the word "no". We get one of those bad babies and we run back into our comfort zones. I get it, rejection sucks big time. Trust me I know. I heard the word no for nine years straight before I booked my first professional acting gig. Instead of running away from that two letter word, I ran towards it. I committed myself to receiving 100 no's! I know it sounds crazy but if I had stopped the very first time I heard a no --I would not have landed a role on NBC's Chicago Fire or appeared in multiple national commercials. If I had given up the first time a door was slammed in my face I would not be a blogger, podcast host, motivational speaker or creative entrepreneur. If you're afraid of rejection this episode is for you! Topics Discussed In Today's Episode: Embracing the fact that the yes doesn't always come after the very first try but after many attempts. Deflating the ego and letting rejection be a great teacher. How committing to 100 no's helps you flex your faith muscles. And so much more! Instagram notifications, Twitter, our family and friends. Distractions are everywhere and are constant while we are trying to focus. It's basically time that you set aside in your schedule to focus solely on the work you have to do to get you closer to your dreams. It's a time that you commit to focusing on your goals no matter what. For example, my non-negotiable dream work hours are every day from 6a-9a. I commit that time every single day to working on my business, the blog and the podcast. I don't care who calls, tweets, or texts me--for that block of time I am focused solely on the work that will be closer to my God-given dreams.
