Cooke to preview the Supreme Court’s coming term, tackling climate lawsuits, religious liberty, AR-15 bans, and the Eighth Amendment—with plenty of constitutional sparring and a surprising amount of agreement.

The Ricochet Podcast: Thumos and a Touch of Swaggart Oct 09, 2026
    Show notes

With each passing wild week in the West, it can feel like a tall order to request an unequivocal defense of it. But when there's a meme, there's a way, and if Marco Rubio has taught us anything, it's that he's always up for the job. James, Steve, and Charles celebrate his statesmanship displayed on Wednesday's Acropolis speech; wonder about the wisdom of the proposed live streaming of the firing-squad execution of the Fort Hood shooter; and bristle at Abdul El Sayed's response to being confronted with "dumb questions" about who our friends and enemies are. Despite it all, they find much to look forward to in our living, breathing, loud-talking and fast-walking civilization on a hill.

Sounds from this week's open: The late televangelist Jim Bakker advises against self-pity; Marco Rubio "testifies to a debt that no lapse of time, no distance of space, can ever extinguish."

Closing Music: "Reverie," composed by Robert Schumann, performed by Bruno Freitas

Erick also explains why Mike Collins is sinking in Georgia against Jon Ossoff, why you must vote all the way down the ballot, and remembers Chicago Bears legend Mike Ditka, who passed away today.

    • Mike Rogers vs. Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan Senate debate: Israel or Iran, Hasan Piker, the Muslim Brotherhood question and Leland Vittert's viral follow-up
    • Susan Collins vs. Troy Jackson in Maine, plus the Vermont Lieutenant Governor race and the family farm migrant worker controversy
    • Why Mike Collins is dragging down Georgia Republicans against Jon Ossoff, and Erick's struggle over leaving a line blank
    • Vote down the ballot, become a poll watcher, and the Peruvian candidate named Hitler Mussolini who just won an election
    • Coach Mike Ditka dies, a Gulf Coast hurricane heads for Mobile and Pensacola, and the Not Safe Radio Show at Gas South Theater

    The Erick Erickson Show: S15 EP182: Hour 2 - Rubio’s Acropolis Speech Oct 09, 2026
    Show notes

Erick welcomes State Department deputy spokesman Luke Ortega to unpack Secretary Marco Rubio's Acropolis speech defending Western civilization, the new Greenland deal with Denmark, and the 250,000 visas revoked under President Trump. Then Erick breaks down the New York ICE shooting of Oscar Bergall, Mayor Mamdani's attack on federal agents, and the Obama-appointed federal judge who blocked his deportation. Plus Tommy Tuberville's 7 to 0 win at the Alabama Supreme Court, Iranian AI influence operations, a rant on "super intelligence," and the White Sox in the playoffs.

    • State Department deputy spokesman Luke Ortega on Marco Rubio's Acropolis speech in Greece, the Iceland, Greece and Portugal trip, and the call for Europe to rebuild its industry and defense
    • The Greenland deal with Denmark: two new US defense areas, a bar on adversary bases and critical minerals investment, and no expiration date
    • Over 250,000 visas revoked, why tourist, work and student visas are pulled, and the new travel.state.gov visa fraud tip portal
    • ICE agents shot Oscar Bergall after he rammed federal vehicles, Mayor Mamdani's response, and a federal judge's order blocking his removal
    • Alabama Supreme Court rules 7 to 0 it cannot hear the Tommy Tuberville residency challenge in the governor's race, plus Iran's OpenAI fake journalist campaign and Erick's refusal to say "super intelligence"

The Erick Erickson Show: S15 EP182: Hour 3 - Why Nidal Hasan’s Public Execution Is a Mistake Oct 09, 2026
    Show notes

Erick makes the case, as a Christian who supports the death penalty, against Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth's plan to stage a public, live-streamed execution of Fort Hood terrorist Nidal Hasan, citing Army regulations, Tertullian, Augustine, Ezekiel 33:11 and the risk of turning a paraplegic terrorist into a martyr for Islam. Erick also explains how his faith has changed his politics, takes on progressives who twist scripture and conservatives who ignore the refugee on immigration, and then turns to TV: Slow Horses, 24, Silo, Severance, Game of Thrones and how pornography and gratuitous language coarsen the soul. Plus the Cornell seven text message, the Not Safe Radio Show, Hurricane warnings for the Southeast and a Friday round of golf.

    • Pete Hegseth and the Pentagon's plan to publicly live stream the execution of Nidal Hasan: why Erick Erickson supports the death penalty but opposes public execution, the Army regulation that bans it, and the martyrdom propaganda risk across the Middle East
    • Faith and politics: Tertullian's De Spectaculis, Augustine and the Colosseum, Ezekiel 33:11, Proverbs 24:17, and progressive revelation versus progressives rewriting scripture on James Talarico, same-sex marriage and abortion
    • Immigration and the Christian conscience: supporting deportation of illegal aliens without cruelty, care for the refugee, the widow and the orphan
    • Family-friendly TV: Slow Horses on Apple TV, 24 with Kiefer Sutherland, Silo, Severance, Shogun and Game of Thrones, and why gratuitous language and sex are coarsening culture
    • Pornography, fathers talking to sons, the Cornell seven situation, plus tickets for the Not Safe Radio Show and a Southeast hurricane warning

3 Martini Lunch: El-Sayed Ducks Key Iran-Israel Question, Rogers Raises Al Qaeda Claim Oct 09, 2026
    Show notes

Join Jim and Greg for the Friday 3 Martini Lunch as they chronicle Abdul El-Sayed dodging what should be an easy debate question about Iran and Israel, Vice President JD Vance missing the mark when asked to define socialism, the debate over whether the Ft. Hood terrorist's execution should be made public, and more.

First, they highlight Michigan Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed refusing to say whether he believes Iran or Israel is a bigger threat to the United States. Jim explains how his non-answer tells us a lot. They also remark on how El-Sayed mother became relevant in the campaign last night.

Next, they scratch their heads as Vice President Vance defines socialism as the Democrats pushing for boys in girls' sports and globalists importing foreign workers at the expense of job for Americans. While those should be opposed, Jim and Greg define what socialism is and why that matters - especially when we're just a few weeks from Election Day and so many candidates on the left are embracing that label.

Then, they wade into the debate over the military announcing that the execution of Ft. Hood terrorist Nidal Hasan will be livestreamed. Jim explains why he's conflicted over that move. Greg points out the hypocrisy of so many on the left who are outraged by this decision.

Finally, Jim and Greg explain why the podcast will sound a bit different for the next couple of weeks.

Daily Signal: Victor Davis Hanson: The Genius Behind Trump’s Art of the Deal Oct 08, 2026
    Show notes

Donald Trump's outrageous demands and confrontational rhetoric may be more calculated than his critics realize.

Victor Davis Hanson breaks down Trump's "art of the deal" strategy, from threats to retake the Panama Canal and acquire Greenland to his pressure campaigns against Canada and NATO. Hanson argues that Trump's willingness to make extreme demands, provoke outrage, and put world leaders on the defensive has helped secure concessions that more conventional presidents couldn't achieve.

Is Trump's abrasive negotiating style a liability, or is it the secret to his success?
