    The People’s Court Podcast

    The honorable Judge Marilyn Milian presides over the four-time Emmy award winning “The People’s Court.” For more than two decades, Milian has dispensed justice and provided legal insight in the courtroom where justice and reality collide. And now, you can take the show on the go with “The People’s Court Podcast.”

    “The People’s Court Podcast” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Judge Milian. Running the gamut from disputes between neighbors and family members, to dissatisfied customers suing businesses, Milian’s decisions – based on current law – are final and binding.

    Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In the courtroom, Milian is joined by court officer Douglas McIntosh. Doug Llewelyn interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases.

    It's Not Nice to Make Your Brother Mad Jun 23, 2023
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says the defendant is his older brother. He claims the defendant used his car and ruined the engine, so now he needs a new one. He’s suing for the cost of the damage. The defendant says the plaintiff’s car was junk, and the engine blew because the plaintiff failed to put oil in it.

    Then, the plaintiff says she rented a room in the defendant’s trailer but then found out it was in a bad part of town. Not only that, the defendant wasn’t allowed to rent out the room, so the plaintiff is suing to get her money back. The defendant says the plaintiff called her to cancel the rental for personal reasons, so the defendant says she doesn’t need to refund anything.

    Plus, the plaintiff says he hired the defendant to build him a custom gun cabinet, but he did a terrible job and nothing works on it. He’s suing for a refund. The defendant says the plaintiff has buyer’s remorse. He says the cabinet is beautiful, and he’s not giving him his money back.

    Get Out of My Store Jun 22, 2023

    The plaintiff says he was falsely arrested because the defendant lied to the police about him trespassing at her shop. He had to spend a lot of money to clear everything up, so he’s suing the defendant to get it back. The defendant says the plaintiff was taking pictures of her female employees, making them uncomfortable, so she called the police. He came back another day, so he was arrested. She followed corporate procedures and owes this man nothing.

    Then, the plaintiff says she hired the defendant to cater her daughter’s sweet 16 party, which ended up being canceled because of COVID-19. The defendant won’t issue a refund, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant says he’s happy to reschedule the event, but deposits are nonrefundable.

    Selling a Defective Dog Jun 21, 2023
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says she bought a puppy from the defendant, but the vet told her the puppy had a defect and never should have been sold. She’s suing for the cost of the dog and vet bills. The defendant says the dog had a common problem with the breed, which gets corrected upon neutering. She claims the plaintiff had the dog for a year, so she’s not issuing a refund.

    Then, the plaintiff says she rented an apartment from the defendant, but it had several problems that were never fixed. She finally had to move out, and she’s now suing for what she says she’s owed. The defendant says he sent the plaintiff a partial refund with damages deducted. He claims the plaintiff was a bad tenant who paid the rent late.

    Plus, the plaintiff says he brought his 1997 truck to the defendant’s shop for an oil change. He claims oil began leaking and two cylinders blew on his way home. He blames the defendant, so he’s suing her for all the money he’s now out. The defendant says she changed the oil, and the plaintiff called her a week later to complain. She says the truck is 20 years old, and she did nothing wrong.

    Failing a Friend Jun 20, 2023

    The plaintiff says she let the defendant use a store membership card, but now the woman refuses to reimburse her. She’s suing for every penny of what she’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff is using her own receipts and trying to claim the defendant made those purchases. She denies owing anything.

    Then, the plaintiff says she loaned the defendant some money because he was a fellow church member in need. Now he won’t pay her back, so she’s suing him for what she’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff gave the money to the church and didn’t put the money in his hand, so he owes nothing.

    Plus, the plaintiff says the defendant avoided a cat with his car and crashed into her fence and chicken coop. She claims he promised to pay for the damages but never did, so she’s suing him for the repair costs. The defendant says he left a note for the defendant and said he’d fix the fence, but he alleges the plaintiff told him to stay off her property.

    Losing Her Cool Jun 19, 2023

    The plaintiff says she hired the defendant as a party planner for a baby shower, but she alleges the woman accused her of being rude and even pulled a gun on her. She’s suing for everything she’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff showed up at her home with three men, so she pulled out her licensed firearm. She’s not giving any refunds, and she’s countersuing for harassment.

    Then, the plaintiff says she and her husband rented their non-drivable furnished RV to the defendant, but they allege he stole 33 items when he moved out, plus he left a mess. They’re suing for what they’re owed. The defendant denies stealing anything from the RV and says the lawsuit is insane.

    Taking it Out on a Car Jun 16, 2023

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her ex-girlfriend. She alleges her ex scratched vile words into the paint on her car, and she refuses to cover the repair costs, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant says the plaintiff cheated and admits she keyed her car. She also alleges the plaintiff owes her money and so they’re even financially.

    Then, the plaintiff says he bought an iPhone XR from the defendant on Facebook, but then the guy pulled a switcheroo and sold him a different phone. He’s suing for his money back. The defendant says he shipped the iPhone XR as promised and has no idea why the plaintiff is scamming him by saying he got a Nokia.

    Plus, the plaintiff says he paid for a TV set, but his ex-girlfriend — the defendant — is holding it hostage. He says he has no choice but to sue for its value. The defendant says the plaintiff bought the TV as a gift for her and their son, so she has no intention of giving it back.

    Missing the Likeness Jun 15, 2023

    The plaintiff says she hired the defendant — who is known as “The Airbrush Goddess” in Cleveland — to airbrush an image of her grandmother onto a denim duster. The result was terrible and rushed, and she wants her money back. The defendant says she’s been airbrushing for 10 years. She’s countersuing for missed work.

    Then, the plaintiff says he was an exemplary tenant for seven years, but the defendant kept his security deposit claiming he needed to paint. He’s suing for his money back. The defendant says the plaintiff broke the lease and the carpet was ripped up to run illegal cable. He’s countersuing for loss of rent and damages.

    Being Insensitive Jun 14, 2023

    The plaintiff says he worked for the defendant’s landscaping company, but the man kept bullying him about his autism and calling him “retarded.” The plaintiff couldn’t take it anymore and left after a month, but he was never paid, so he’s suing for discrimination and unpaid wages. The defendant says he paid the plaintiff cash because the he never provided his working papers. He insists the plaintiff is lying about being bullied.

    Then, the plaintiff says she gave the defendant a deposit on renting a house, and the woman cashed the check. When the plaintiff showed up to move in, the defendant went crazy and threw her off the property. She’s suing her for mental anguish. The defendant says the plaintiff lied about her employment, and the plaintiff wasted her time. She’s suing for loss of potential rent, utilities, landscaping, and defamation.

    Throwing a Fit Jun 13, 2023

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her ex-boyfriend and he kicked her out of the house. She claims he slammed a car door on her and damaged her car mirror, so she’s suing for the cost of the repairs. The defendant says he kicked the door shut and knocked the mirror because the plaintiff tends to be violent and he was trying to protect himself.

    Then, the plaintiffs say they rented a house to the defendant, who never disclosed that he smoked. When he moved out, they had to spend money to get rid of the terrible nicotine smell, burn marks, and permanent marker on the walls. They’re suing for the cost. The defendant says he doesn’t understand why he’s being sued because they used to be best friends. He claims he only smoked outside and denies causing damage.

    Making a Getaway Jun 12, 2023

    The plaintiff says he owns a company that places ATMs in businesses, and he put one in the defendant’s bar. The bar went belly up, but the ATM machine is missing. He’s suing the defendant for the value. The defendant says the plaintiff installed it with bolts in front of the bathroom, so the fire marshal said it had to be moved. He claims two guys came and got the machine, so he doesn’t have it

    Then, the plaintiff says she rented a condo from the defendant, who then hired an unlicensed plumber to do some work. He started a huge fire and 24 units had to be evacuated. The plaintiff moved out, and she’s suing the defendant for the return of her security deposit. The defendant says she rented the unit to the plaintiff, who became evil when she found out the defendant was selling it. She claims the tenant wrecked the place, and she’s suing for money for a lost sale.
