    The People’s Court Podcast

    The honorable Judge Marilyn Milian presides over the four-time Emmy award winning “The People’s Court.” For more than two decades, Milian has dispensed justice and provided legal insight in the courtroom where justice and reality collide. And now, you can take the show on the go with “The People’s Court Podcast.”

    “The People’s Court Podcast” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Judge Milian. Running the gamut from disputes between neighbors and family members, to dissatisfied customers suing businesses, Milian’s decisions – based on current law – are final and binding.

    Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In the courtroom, Milian is joined by court officer Douglas McIntosh. Doug Llewelyn interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases.

    Show notes

    The plaintiff says when he was walking his little shih tzu on a leash, the defendant’s large dog bit his pet’s tail. He says the defendant was supposed to cover the vet bill and never did, so he’s suing. The defendant says her dog did nip, but the plaintiff got too close and didn’t respect social distancing.

    The plaintiff says he hired the defendant to build a dream swimming pool, but he didn’t install the heater correctly. The guy is giving him the runaround, so he’s suing for the repair cost. The defendant says he’s a second-generation pool builder and knows what he’s doing. He says the plaintiff ruined the heater with poor pool chemistry.

    The plaintiff says she brought her car to the defendant’s garage to have the transmission fixed and it took weeks. She says he told her he’d pay for her rental car, so she’s suing for thousands. The defendant says he never agreed to pay for a rental, and he insists he went out of his way to keep her happy.

    Giving on the Relationship May 24, 2023

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her ex of 12 years, and now she can’t get the money for all the things they bought while together. She’s suing for what she’s owed. The defendant says she already paid her ex and owes nothing. In fact, she’s countersuing for what she’s owed.

    Then, the plaintiff says she hired the defendant to hire her daughter’s prom, but it was canceled because of COVID. Now he’s refusing to refund the money, so she’s suing. The defendant says he purchased custom items for the party and is happy to do the event at another time. He said it wasn’t his fault the pandemic hit.

    Painting a Guy Into a Corner May 23, 2023
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says he was hired by the defendant to do some painting on her house, but she’s stiffing him on his wages. He’s suing for what he’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff was subcontracted under a carpenter, so he needs to talk to him. He did a bad job, so she’s countersuing for all the money she has to put out to correct it.

    Then, the plaintiff says he was napping in his car on his lunch break when the defendant opened her car door into his vehicle from the next spot over. She told him to get an estimate, but then she ghosted him. He’s suing for the repair cost. The defendant says the plaintiff parks his car there every day, and a bag she was carrying barely brushed his vehicle. She denies causing any damage.

    Plus, the plaintiff says he was driving down a four-lane road when the defendant attempted a U-turn. The plaintiff slammed into a car and it was totaled. The police ticketed the defendant, and he’s suing her for the repair cost. The defendant denies she got a ticket, and the police told her he was driving very fast. Not only that, her insurance already paid him.

    Fence Fiasco May 22, 2023
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says she hired the defendant to build a fence and paid him, but when she went to his house to see when he’d start the work, he pointed a shotgun at her face. She’s suing for a refund and emotional distress. The defendant says the plaintiff and her husband pulled a knife on him and demanded a refund, so he called the police. His tires were also slashed.

    Then, the plaintiff says she gave the defendants a deposit to have her wedding at a farm they own. After COVID hit, they refused to let her have the wedding there but would not return the deposit, so she’s suing for what she paid another venue. The defendants say the plaintiff harassed them when they had no choice but to abide by the COVID state mandate. The contract said no refund on the deposit.

    Nipping Niko May 19, 2023

    The plaintiff says the defendant’s dog attacked his dog at the park and the defendant promised he’d pay the vet bill. Now he’s avoiding the plaintiff, so he’s forced to sue. The defendant says there was a scuffle among several dogs, and there was no mention that his dog nipped the plaintiff’s pet.

    Then, the plaintiffs say the defendant is their landlord and they’re feuding. They claim she’s stolen their electricity and that their faucet leaks, so they’re suing for a rent reduction. The defendant says the plaintiffs are nitpickers who ask for things that aren’t a landlord’s responsibility. She’s countersuing for all that she’s out.

    Breaking Things Off May 18, 2023

    The plaintiff says he and the defendant dated and they split the cost of a medical device. The defendant promised she’d pay for half but never did, so he’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff is just mad that she broke up with him and that’s why they’re in court.

    Then, The plaintiff is an arborist and was hired to remove trees from the defendant’s land. The state of New Jersey forbade him from removing some that were on wetlands, but the defendant refused to pay, so he’s suing. The defendant says she never hired the plaintiff and just asked for an estimate. She claims he did all the work while she was on vacation. She’s countersuing for tree and stump removal.

    Letting a Lady Friend Down May 17, 2023

    The plaintiff says she and the defendant dated and bought a house together, but they broke up. Now she’s out of the home and he won’t repay her for the deposit she put down initially, so she’s suing. The defendant says he already paid the defendant back and covered all the expenses on the house, so he owes nothing

    Then, the plaintiff says he was driving down the highway when a huge chunk of ice flew off the defendant’s truck and splintered his windshield. The defendant refuses to pay for the damage, so he’s suing him. The defendant says his truck wasn’t in the area on the day of the incident and denies it was him.

    Plus, the plaintiff says she rented an apartment to the defendant’s blind nephew, but she was never paid. She’s suing for the rent. The defendant says she doesn’t understand why she’s being sued because it has nothing to do with her. She claims the plaintiff is taking advantage of a person with a disability

    Vex of an Ex May 16, 2023

    The plaintiff says she rented an apartment from the defendant on a month-to-month basis, but he kicked her out with no notice. She’s suing for her security deposit. The defendant says the plaintiff had trouble paying the rent, so he had no option.

    The plaintiff says the defendant is his ex-wife. They were friendly — until now. He loaned her money to fix her air-conditioning, but she hasn’t repaid, so he’s suing. The defendant says her ex was a cheater. She claims she repaid most of the loan, but she doesn’t owe the rest because he still owes her for rent. She’s countersuing for outstanding rent.

    The plaintiff says he transports vehicles, and he transported one for the defendant. The man refused to pay, it escalated, and the police were called. He’s suing for what he’s owed. The defendant says he paid in full, and then there was an additional charge he was never told about. Plus, he claims the plaintiff damaged the car, so he’s countersuing.

    Fouling Up a Fence May 15, 2023

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her landscaper, and he kept hitting her fenceposts with his lawn mower. It made her gate inoperable, and the defendant won’t cover the repairs. The defendant claims he does fence work, but the plaintiff hired a fence company. He claims she’s scamming him for money.

    Then, the plaintiff says she agreed to rent an apartment from the defendant, who promised the place would be ready in time. She put down a deposit, but the place was a mess. She’s suing for her money back. The defendant says she’s an experienced apartment manager and the place would have been ready. She insists deposits are non-refundable.

    Plus, the plaintiff says owns a restroom attendants service company for high-end events. The defendant was working at a nightclub, but she flipped out when he wanted to rotate her elsewhere. He fired her, but she still has her uniform, so he’s suing. The defendant claims all the plaintiff’s supplies were stolen. She’s countersuing for pain and suffering.

    Where's My Money Honey May 12, 2023

    The plaintiff says she gave the defendant a deposit on a house for rent, but it wasn’t ready to move in. The plaintiff asked for her money back, but the defendant only gave her some. The plaintiff is suing for the balance. The defendant insists she was on schedule to get the home ready, but the plaintiff changed her mind.

    The plaintiff says she bought a hunk of junk car from the defendant, and it could have killed her because it was in such bad shape that the engine fell out. He’s a car dealer and should have known better, so she’s suing. The defendant says it was an as-is sale with a seven-day warranty, but the plaintiff had the car for a month.

    The plaintiff says her son was murdered, and the defendant was hired to print T-shirts with his picture for the funeral. The shirts were late and they were damaged, so she’s suing for a refund. The defendant says she did her best to get the correct fabric, but the pandemic was an issue.
