    The People’s Court Podcast

    The honorable Judge Marilyn Milian presides over the four-time Emmy award winning “The People’s Court.” For more than two decades, Milian has dispensed justice and provided legal insight in the courtroom where justice and reality collide. And now, you can take the show on the go with “The People’s Court Podcast.”

    “The People’s Court Podcast” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Judge Milian. Running the gamut from disputes between neighbors and family members, to dissatisfied customers suing businesses, Milian’s decisions – based on current law – are final and binding.

    Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In the courtroom, Milian is joined by court officer Douglas McIntosh. Doug Llewelyn interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases.

    Being Fighting Mad Apr 19, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff used to work for the defendant, who he claims turned out to be a maniac who assaulted him. He now has back issues from the attack, and he’s suing. The defendant claims he had to fire the plaintiff, who he says tried to take a company computer. He claims he had to block the lunatic plaintiff but didn’t assault him.

    Then, the plaintiff says he rented an apartment to the defendant, but she was a nightmare tenant. He claims she made every excuse in the book to avoid paying her rent. He’s suing for rent, a broken refrigerator, and cleaning costs. The defendant says the lock on her door was faulty and she got robbed. She claims she’s up to date on rent and has no idea why she’s being sued.

    Plus, the plaintiff says he and the defendant have been friends for two decades, so he doesn’t want to sue him for breach of contract, but he says he’s owed $5,000 because of a botched plumbing job. The defendant says the plaintiff asked him to do extra work after he had already completed a bathroom. He’s suing for harassment and a hand truck.

    Running Out On A Wife Apr 18, 2024

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her husband, who she claims up and left her out of the blue, stole her car, and stuck her with rent payments. She’s suing for what she’s owed. The defendant says he gave his wife every penny he made working seven days a week because she told him men had no rights in the U.S. and she’d call the police on him.

    The plaintiff says she shared an apartment with the defendant, and everything was fine at first. She claims the defendant stopped paying for anything and had the plaintiff arrested for battery, and now she owes the plaintiff thousands in utilities and rent, so she’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff’s girlfriend moved in and they were supposed to split everything three ways, but that didn’t happen. She’s countersuing for unpaid rent.

    The plaintiffs say they bought a 100-year-old house from the defendants. They claim the defendants promised them the fireplaces and chimneys were in good working order, but they were actually fire hazards. They’re suing for the thousands it will cost them to make repairs. The defendants claim the plaintiffs had the home inspected and all the issues were resolved, so they don’t understand why they’re now suing nine months later. They deny owing anything.

    Turning Up The Heat Apr 17, 2024

    The plaintiff says the defendant hired her to restore and convert an antique stove, but he paid her with a rubber check. She’s suing for what she’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff coerced him into making expensive alterations, so he refuses to pay.

    The plaintiffs say the defendant is a groomer, who they claim cut their dog so badly they had to rush Nibbles to the vet with gashes. They’re suing for future vet bills from a leg injury. The defendant says the plaintiffs’ dog is aggressive and needs to be medicated before grooming. She also claims she paid for the dog’s initial vet bill.

    The plaintiff says she bought a car from her niece on a payment plan, but when she had two payments left, her niece snapped and called the cops on her to say it was stolen. She’s suing for what she paid. The defendant says her aunt was always late with the payments and she needed that money to take care of her children.

    Kicking A Woman To The Curb Apr 16, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says she hired the defendant to pick her up after a medical procedure, but he went nuts and kicked her out of the car into the freezing cold while she was still woozy from anesthesia. She’s suing him for punitive damages and lost wages. The defendant claims it’s all a mixup because the plaintiff got into the wrong cab.

    The plaintiff says he gave the defendant money towards renting an apartment, but then his daughter passed away tragically and he was unable to come up with the funds for rent. He says the cold-hearted defendant refused to return his security deposit, so he’s suing. The defendant says he believed the plaintiff’s story, but he was double-crossed.

    The plaintiff says the defendant’s driver cut him off on a rainy night and he slid into a parked car. The defendant refuses to cover the damages, so the plaintiff is suing for the state maximum. The defendant says all his driver did was merge and the cops found no fault.

    Hitting Rough Seas With An Ex Apr 15, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff has a son with the defendant, and he has a daughter with another woman. The plaintiff claims she was going to take her son and his daughter on a Hawaiian cruise, but the defendant failed to reimburse her for his daughter’s portion of the trip, so she’s suing. The defendant says he paid almost $2,000 and never agreed to give her a certain amount.

    The plaintiff says he bought a car from the defendant, but he couldn’t register it because he never got the proper title. He left the vehicle on the defendant’s lot while he waited for the title, but he got the runaround. The defendant even tried to charge him for storage, so he’s suing him for a full refund. The defendant says the plaintiff told him he couldn’t take possession of the car for three months, so he’s entitled to storage fees, which he’s countersuing for.

    The plaintiff says there was an outdoor deck when he rented an apartment, but it had been knocked down by the time he moved in. He claims it took the nightmare landlord defendant nine months to build a new one, so he’s suing. The defendant says he told the plaintiff the deck was being replaced and claims he’s still owed rent.

    Not Treating this Lady Right Apr 12, 2024

    The plaintiff says she met the defendant in the emergency room, and they ended up moving in together. She claims he pressured her for sex and ended up locking her out when she refused, so she’s suing. The defendant says he and the plaintiff had a relationship until she brought home another man, so he moved out and the landlord changed the locks.

    The plaintiffs say the defendant is their neighbor. They claim he kicked their car one day out of anger and dented it, causing damage, missed work, and pain and suffering, so they’re suing. The defendant says one of the plaintiffs pushed him into the car during an argument and the damage was minimal.

    The plaintiff says the defendant was her landlord. She claims he rented her place out before she was finished moving, and she found the new tenant lying on her couch and using her new furniture, so she’s suing for the value. The defendant says the plaintiff told him she had to move quickly, and he suspects it has to do with a criminal past. He claims she abandoned the furniture.

    Causing An Accident Apr 11, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says she’s suing the owner of a bar near her house. She claims a drunk driver plowed into her parked car, and she says the bar owner overserved the driver, so she’s suing for the cost of the totaled car. The defendant says the plaintiff has no proof of who hit her car, so she’s trying to extort him.

    The plaintiff says he bought a commercial printer from the defendant on eBay, but he never received it. Sure, he got a refund, but what he really wanted was the printer. He’s suing for the price of the item. The defendant says he realized the printer was broken, so he refunded the money, but the plaintiff began harassing him.

    The plaintiff says she had a TV satellite dish installed, but the defendant — her landlord — told her to take it down. She claims the hothead cut the wires and took it down himself, and so she had to pay a disconnection fee. She’s suing for the fee and emotional distress. The defendant claims the plaintiff didn’t pay the first month’s rent and says the dish put holes in his roof.

    Steering A Customer The Wrong Way Apr 10, 2024

    The plaintiff says he purchased a defective power steering pump for his car from the defendant, and he had to hire a mechanic for a new installation. He’s suing the defendant for the extra labor needed. The defendant argues she sent the first pump out to the manufacturer for inspection, and it came back with a clean bill of health. She refuses to pay for the unnecessary extra work.

    The plaintiff says he agreed to rent a room in the defendant’s apartment. He paid the deposit but then realized he wasn’t comfortable living there because the electricity had been shut off. He told the defendant and asked for a refund. She refused, so he’s suing the woman for the amount he is owed. The defendant insists she told the plaintiff about the electricity from the start, and when she refused to pay back the deposit, the plaintiff allegedly threatened her.

    The plaintiff says he purchased a hunk-of-junk used car from the defendant. It doesn’t have a good title, and he can’t get it registered. He’s suing the defendant for the cost of the car. The defendant argues that he told the plaintiff the car had some issues, and he signed the title over to him like he was supposed to. The defendant insists the plaintiff is just exaggerating the situation because he has buyer’s remorse.

    The Case of Forcing an Eviction Apr 09, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says he had to hire an attorney to evict the defendant, who he claims is a professional rent scammer. He’s suing for the money he’s owed. The defendant says she doesn’t owe a thing. She’s countersuing for what she’s out.

    The plaintiff says he’s a paralegal, and he struck a bargain with the defendant: He’d handle the man’s bankruptcy in exchange for the defendant replacing his car engine. He never followed through, so he’s suing for the cost of the engine. The defendant says the plaintiff pretended to be a lawyer. He insists he did work on the man’s car.

    The plaintiffs say they loaned the defendant money for bail after she got arrested for assault, but she’s running around town spending cash and not repaying them. They’re suing for what they’re owed. The defendant says she owes the bondsman, not the plaintiffs. She claims they co-signed the bond, but they never put up any cash.

    Causing a Family Rift Apr 08, 2024

    The plaintiff says the defendant is his sister-in-law. He claims she owes him for household items he left in an apartment and she won’t pay him back, so he’s suing. The defendant says she paid him for some of the items but told him to come pick up a bed she didn’t want, and now he expects her to pay for it.

    The plaintiff says she and the defendant used to work together. The defendant invited her to a party with a refundable ticket, and when the plaintiff had to cancel at the last minute, the defendant refused to refund her money. She’s suing for the cost of the ticket and inconvenience. The defendant says the plaintiff sent her a message only two hours before the event started. She’s countersuing for lost wages.

    The plaintiff says she rented a house from the defendant for 11 years. Now he’s refusing to return her security deposit, so she wants it back — with interest. The defendant claims the plaintiff stole a fridge, and there were two dead cats and urine-covered floors in the home.
