    The People’s Court Podcast

    The honorable Judge Marilyn Milian presides over the four-time Emmy award winning “The People’s Court.” For more than two decades, Milian has dispensed justice and provided legal insight in the courtroom where justice and reality collide. And now, you can take the show on the go with “The People’s Court Podcast.”

    “The People’s Court Podcast” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Judge Milian. Running the gamut from disputes between neighbors and family members, to dissatisfied customers suing businesses, Milian’s decisions – based on current law – are final and binding.

    Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In the courtroom, Milian is joined by court officer Douglas McIntosh. Doug Llewelyn interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases.

    Show notes

    The plaintiff says she bought a bird from the defendant, but it died three hours later. She brought the bird back and the defendant told her to get an autopsy, which she did, and the animal had a pre-existing condition. She’s suing for her money back. The defendant says the bird was perfectly healthy and would have lived 80 years, but the plaintiff killed the bird by leaving it in a hot car in Florida. He denies owing her anything.

    The plaintiff says she brought her expensive designer skirt to the defendant for alteration, but the woman butchered it. She can’t possibly wear it, so she’s suing for the cost and aggravation. The defendant says she’s been in business for years with 100 happy clients. She claims the plaintiff is nuts for accusing the defendant of shortening the hem so she could steal fabric. She’s countersuing for harassment.

    The plaintiff says he loaned the defendant some money, but when the defendant’s tax refund came in, he bought a fancy new truck, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant says he let the plaintiff stay with him for free when he lost his home, and he denies owing anything. He’s countersuing for defamation.

    'What a Whirly-Bird', 'Being a Messy Mover' & 'Ignoring an Ex' May 16, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says he gave the defendant his expensive remote-controlled helicopter to sell on consignment, but the defendant lost it. The plaintiff is suing for the replacement cost. The defendant says he owns a hobby store and claims the helicopter was stolen. He alleges the consignment agreement says he’s not liable in the case of theft.

    The plaintiff says she hired the defendant’s moving company, and she claims he overcharged her and damaged some items. She’s not going to be pushed around, so she’s suing. The defendant says he has no idea what the issue is, and he claims the plaintiff wasn’t even home when they arrived with her belongings.

    The plaintiff says he used to date the defendant and he helped her buy a car. They broke up, and now she’s refusing to pay him back, so he’s suing. The defendant says her ex bought the car for her, but she had to kick him out for cheating.

    'Rough Roommating', 'Losing A Suitcase' & 'Putting the Kibosh on a Happy Meal' May 15, 2024

    The plaintiff says he and the defendant shared an apartment, but his roommate ended up being a crazy slob who fought with him nonstop. He moved out and is suing for outstanding rent and damaged belongings. The defendant claims the plaintiff is a creepy guy who oiled his feet in the living room and even signed them up for a cult. He says the plaintiff moved out, so he owes him nothing.

    The plaintiff says she hired the defendant to drive her home after a 35-hour flight from the Philippines. She claims he forgot to latch his trunk, and one of her bags flew out onto the road somewhere. They retraced their steps with no luck finding it, so she’s suing for the value of the items lost. The defendant says the plaintiff is sneaky and can’t be trusted. He alleges she brought all the bags in and then lied that one was missing.

    The plaintiff says she applied for a job at the same fast-food restaurant where her sister, the defendant, worked. She claims her sister falsely told the supervisor she had an order of protection against her, so she didn’t get hired. She’s suing her sister for the loss of work. The defendant says her sister mistreated her son, and she can’t understand why she applied at the same location where she worked.

    'It's Not Nice To Lie' & 'Not Treating Mommy-Dearest' May 14, 2024

    The plaintiff says the defendant tried to pass her car with his tow truck and sideswiped her. She’s suing for the cost of the repairs. The defendant says the plaintiff made a sharp right turn and clipped the truck’s mud flap. He alleges she admitted on tape that she was at fault.

    The plaintiff says the defendants are her son and his wife. She claims they stole her shopping cart, so she has no choice but to sue for the money to buy a new one. The plaintiff’s son says the whole thing is ridiculous and claims his mother is crazy and jealous of his wife.

    'A Real Smoke Screen', 'Flushing a Job Down The Toilet' & 'Getting Too Much Sun' May 13, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says he rented his van to the defendant, who he claims scratched it up and then set it on fire to cover it up. He’s suing for the cost of the damages. The defendant insists the van mysteriously caught fire the day he was supposed to stop renting it, and he denies having anything to do with the flames. He’s countersuing for lost wages.

    The plaintiff says she hired the incompetent defendant to tile her bathroom, but the tiles fell off a few hours later. She says he took off on her, so she’s suing for the cost of retiling her bathroom. The defendant says he told the plaintiff not to use the bathroom for a week, but she used it that day and got the grout wet. He fixed it, but the plaintiff put a stop payment on the check.

    The plaintiff says she bought a car from the defendant. A week later, the sunroof dangerously blew off while she was driving. She’s suing for the amount to repair it. The defendant says the sunroof wasn’t under warranty, and he alleges the plaintiff became belligerent when he told her.

    'Having No Heart', 'Creating Momma-Drama' & 'Making a Mechanic Mad' May 10, 2024

    The plaintiff says the defendants are her former roommates. She claims they kicked her out and left her homeless, plus they owe her money, so she’s suing. The defendants claim the plaintiff rented a room and damaged the walls, had too much stuff to fit in her room, and brought roaches.

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her daughter, who won’t repay a loan. She’s suing for her hard-earned money back. The defendant claims her mother gave her the money so she could claim the defendant on her taxes, so she doesn’t owe.

    The plaintiff says the defendant is a friend of a friend. He claims she stiffed him on some repair work and abandoned him by the side of the road when he delivered the vehicle to her home. He’s suing for what he’s owed. The defendant insists the plaintiff not only didn’t fix the car but also made it worse. She had to hire another mechanic to correct the issue.

    'Dodging a Dog Buyer', 'Making Ma Mad' & 'Being a Loosey-Goosey Landlord' May 09, 2024

    The plaintiff says she bought a puppy from the defendant, but the dog was so sick it had to be euthanized six days later. She’s suing for vet bills and pain and suffering. The defendant claims the vet says the puppy was fine for days until the plaintiffs gave the dog a bath. He claims the puppy maybe inhaled something in the bath and got sick.

    The plaintiff says her son is the defendant. He bought a car from her and failed to pay, so she’s suing. The defendant claims she signed the title over to him and says she couldn’t use it anyway. He’s countersuing for emotional distress.

    The plaintiffs say they signed a one-year lease with the defendant, but she was a nightmare landlord. They had no hot water in winter and had to move out. Now she won’t return their security deposit, so they’re suing. The defendant says the plaintiffs left her high and dry, and she had to have everything deep cleaned because they were smokers.

    'Losing Control', 'A Kitty-Cat-Conundrum' & 'Not backing Down' May 08, 2024

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her onetime friend and roommate. She claims her former friend gave away her five cats and carriers without her permission, so she’s suing. The defendant claims the plaintiff had 14 cats when Hurricane Sandy hit, so she was helping her out by taking in the five cats.

    The plaintiff says he agreed to rent a room in the defendant’s house because she seemed nice. Four days later, she changed the locks and even threatened him, so he’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff gave her the runaround about paying rent, threatened her, and violated the house rules, so she locked him out.

    The plaintiff says the defendants crashed their car into her parked car and then her aunt’s house. They claim their brakes failed, but their insurance isn’t paying up, so she’s suing for the extra repair costs. The defendants say the plaintiff was already paid by the insurance, so they don’t know why she’s suing.

    'Dissing An Ex', 'Bailing On a Brother' & 'Taking Off' May 07, 2024

    The plaintiff says she dated the defendant and they moved in together. She rented a car for him, but then she found out he was having a baby with another woman. He hasn’t repaid her for the car, so she’s suing. The defendant claims he put a down payment on the rental because they planned a trip, and he insists he owes nothing.

    The plaintiff says the defendant is his younger brother, who called him from jail after he got arrested. The other defendant is his brother’s girlfriend, who hit him up for bail money. He loaned them bail money and sold them an engagement ring, but they still owe for it. The defendant says he’s paid back half the loan, but he and his older brother have a rocky relationship.

    The plaintiff says she pawned valuable jewelry at the defendant’s shop, but when she went back to retrieve the items a few days later, he claimed they were missing. She went back again and the shop was shut down for good, so she’s suing for the value of the missing goods. The defendant says he moved location because of a leak in the store and claims the plaintiff didn’t have the money to get her things.

    'Retiring From a Daughter', 'Give Me Money' & 'A Loan? What Loan?' May 06, 2024

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her father. She claims he borrowed her car and returned it to her with damage and failed to tell her. She’s suing for repairs, dad or no dad. The defendant says he got a flat tire while driving her car and bought two new tires. He insists he owes nothing and did not damage the vehicle.

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her loudmouth former landlord who’s stealing her security deposit. She needs her money to pay rent, so she’s suing. The defendant says he met the plaintiff at a bar and helped her out by renting her a cottage. He claims she trashed it by smoking and left early. He’s countersuing for additional repairs.

    The plaintiff says she met the defendant at church and loaned him money to attend a funeral out of town. He still hasn’t repaid her, so she’s suing him. The defendant says the plaintiff offered the money, and they never discussed repayment.
