    The People’s Court Podcast

    The honorable Judge Marilyn Milian presides over the four-time Emmy award winning “The People’s Court.” For more than two decades, Milian has dispensed justice and provided legal insight in the courtroom where justice and reality collide. And now, you can take the show on the go with “The People’s Court Podcast.”

    “The People’s Court Podcast” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Judge Milian. Running the gamut from disputes between neighbors and family members, to dissatisfied customers suing businesses, Milian’s decisions – based on current law – are final and binding.

    Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In the courtroom, Milian is joined by court officer Douglas McIntosh. Doug Llewelyn interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases.

    Being a Moocher May 03, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says the defendant is the brother of her co-plaintiff. She claims he owes them all sort of money for moving expenses, gas, and a tour of Graceland. They’re suing to be repaid. The defendant says he covered all the bills when he lived with them, and there’s no way he owes them a penny.

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her on-again, off-again ex, who borrowed her car and wrecked it. Her ex promised she would give her a down payment for another car and never did, so she’s suing for $3,000. The defendant says she gave her ex $500 to cover it, and she insists the accident was just a fender bender.

    The plaintiff says he and his stepfather rented a space from the defendant for 10 years to use as a fishing shop. It closed when his stepfather passed away, but now the defendant won’t return his security deposit, so he’s forced to sue. The defendant says the shop’s floors were worn and needed to be replaced, and the whole place smelled like live bait and needed to be cleaned.

    Copping Out On A Camper May 02, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says the defendant stored her beat-up RV on her property and never paid for it. Even though the defendant claims she gave the plaintiff’s employee cash to cover the costs, the plaintiff thinks she’s lying, so she’s suing for the outstanding amount. The defendants say this is a misunderstanding and claim they have a check to prove they paid the storage bill.

    The plaintiff says he rented an apartment from the defendant, but there were rats running wild and the defendant refused to do anything about it. He moved out and is suing for an unreturned security deposit and the cost of a dress suit that rats ate. The defendant says the plaintiff made the rat story up because he couldn’t afford rent.

    The plaintiff says she brought her car to the defendant’s carwash and his worker drove her vehicle straight into another car. It was damaged and the airbags deployed, but the defendant refuses to pay for it, so she’s suing him. The defendant admits one of his employees tapped another car and said he’s offered to pay for the repairs.

    Making a Tenant Mad May 01, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says the defendant was a nightmare landlord. She claims she even lost her job because of him, so she’s suing him for $5,000. The defendant says the plaintiff got into tussles with the other neighbors, and he had to have her arrested for stealing when she stopped paying rent. He’s countersuing for unpaid rent and lawyers’ fees.

    The plaintiff says she and the defendant were friends for years and planned to head to Miami for her birthday. She bought a plane ticket for the defendant, but she backed out. The plaintiff is suing for her money back, plus cancellation fees. The defendant claims she never fully agreed to go because she had to check with work first to get the time off. Her boss wouldn’t let her off, so she didn’t go.

    The plaintiff says she bought a 1997 car with 173,000 miles on in from the defendant. She claims she was shocked to find out it was unsafe after she took it to a mechanic. She’s suing for her money back. The defendant says the plaintiff test drove it, negotiated the price, and bought it, and then called a week later to say she didn’t want it.

    Slip-Sliding Away Apr 30, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says he and the defendant have been friends for 30 years. He claims this careless man left the plaintiff’s dog in the back yard. The dog got out, got hit by a car, and died. His friend said he’d pay for the vet bill, but he backed out, so he’s suing him. The defendant claims he was visiting the plaintiff, who he says told him not to leave the dog in the house when he went out because the dog wasn’t potty trained. He feels bad, but the dog escaped through a faulty gate.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant is her neighbor, who she says helped her out by paying the back taxes on her house. She claims he then made a pass at her and she rebuffed him. He then tossed all her items out of the house and even got rid of her dog. She’s suing for the value of her items. The defendant claims the deal was he would get the house if she didn’t pay him back, and he says she abandoned her things. He’s countersuing for back rent, taxes, and utility bills.

    Plus, the plaintiff says the defendant plowed into her parked car during a snowstorm and promised to pay for the damages. She claims he then disappeared and changed his number, but she tracked him down. She wants her money, and she’s suing for it. The defendant says she’s taking advantage of him. He claims the accident was minor, and he’s countersuing for his damages.

    Being Petty Apr 29, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says her niece, the defendant, owes her for funeral costs after the plaintiff’s brother died. Her niece promised to repay her for months, but she’s out of patience. She’s suing for what she’s owed. The defendant says she’s hurt that a family member — her father’s own sister — would sue over a funeral.

    Then, the plaintiff says she hired the defendant to build a patio on their 120-year-old farmhouse, but the drainage is all wrong. She claims she’s been calling him for two years to come fix it, but he refuses. She’s suing for repair costs. The defendant claims the plaintiff used salt on her patio and broke the rocks, and he denies he’s done anything wrong. He also claims the plaintiff has had run-ins with several contractors.

    Plus, the plaintiff says the defendant is her boyfriend’s aunt. She claims she paid the defendant to add her to the defendant’s car insurance policy, but she took the plaintiff off after an argument with her nephew. She’s suing after she got pulled over by state troopers. The defendant says the plaintiff never took the car out of her name to re-register it. She’s countersuing for false impersonation.

    Stealing From a Sibling Apr 26, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says her sister, the defendant, stole money that was earmarked for her by their deceased father. She claims the defendant took her inheritance check to the bank, and sister or no sister, she’s suing her for every penny. The defendant and her husband say the plaintiff got her check and they want nothing to do with her.

    Then, the plaintiff says she bought inferior furniture from the defendant, but he refuses to make good on it. She claims the bed even cracked in the middle of the night and she ended up on the floor, hurting her spine. She’s suing for a refund. The defendant says he sent a repairman right away and even ordered a new bed leg from the manufacturer yet she’s still suing.

    Plus, the plaintiff says he rented a room from the defendant, but he had to move out because the environment was so hostile. He claims the defendant’s nephew threatened him. He’s suing for his security deposit , plus pain and suffering. The defendant says the plaintiff was a complete slob, so he kept the money to clean up the place.

    Causing a Dog Fight Apr 25, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says he asked the defendant to marry him and gave her a ring. Soon after, she said the father of her child was moving in with her because he had no home and they ended up breaking up. He wants the ring back, so he’s suing. The defendant alleges the plaintiff was a cheater who was still married when he proposed. She’s countersuing for pain and suffering.

    Then, the plaintiff says he brought his 2002 Ford Explorer to the defendant’s car wash, but it came out of the machine with damage. When he complained, he says the defendant told him he wasn’t responsible because it looked like the broken part had been glued on. He’s suing for the cost of repairs. The defendant says the plaintiff caused a scene and swore at his employees. He claims the broken panel was already loose and caulked on.

    Plus, the plaintiff says she moved from Pittsburgh to New York and rented an apartment from the defendant. She claims the place was a disaster and should have been condemned for mold, bare sockets, and more. The defendant won’t return her money, so she’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff and her daughter drove to New York, saw the place, and loved it. She claims the plaintiff is a loon who broke the lease, so she’s entitled to keep the money.

    Failing a Fiancé Apr 24, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says the defendant is his former fiancée, who he says turned out to be a liar. He claims he loaned her money to pay off her credit cards and she refuses to repay him, so he’s suing. The defendant says she’s still hurt over the breakup and insists he still texts her asking her to marry him. She denies owing him any money.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant is his ex-girlfriend and mother of his daughter. He claims she owes him for thousands in utility bills, so he’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff gave her permission to use the utilities and claims he’s only suing because she went after him for child support

    Plus, the plaintiff says the defendant towed her new car and scratched it up. The car dealership told the towing company they used the wrong type of truck, but the defendant won’t admit it. She’s suing for the cost of repairs. The defendant says he’s been in business for 27 years and has photos to prove he didn’t cause the damage.

    Speaking her Mind Apr 23, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her neighbor, who borrowed some speakers and promised to buy them. Now the woman is harassing her, threatening her with weapons, and banging on the door at all hours, so she’s suing. The defendant claims the plaintiff gave her the speakers and even called police on her.

    Then, the plaintiff says he donated his car to the defendant’s charity and explained he needed to get permission from his parole officer to remove a device that proved he was sober before the car would start. He says the defendant didn’t wait and had the car crushed. Now the plaintiff owes thousands to replace the breathalyzer, so he’s suing. The defendant says he tows cars for charities and claims it’s up to the defendant to remove all his personal belongings before turning over the vehicle.

    Plus, the plaintiff says the defendants are her former landlords and they’re refusing to return her security deposit. She says she left the place as she found it, so she’s suing to get her money back. The defendants say the plaintiff left the apartment late, so they kept the deposit. They’re also now countersuing for repairs.

    Give Me My Car Back Apr 22, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says he and the defendant were in a relationship, so he bought a car and put it in her name to save on insurance. He claims after they broke up, two goons showed up at his house demanding the keys. He’s making the car payments, so he’s suing. The defendant says she put the car on her credit card, so she’s the one who’s owed money. She’s countersuing for everything she’s out on the car, plus other items.

    Then, the plaintiff is a home care nurse, and she says the defendant hired her to care for her parents. She claims it was difficult because she had to travel in the snow and cold. After two weeks, she quit because she hadn’t been paid. She’s suing for her wages. The defendant says she has nothing to do with her parents’ finances because they have a financial guardian.

    Plus, the plaintiff says the defendant is his wife. He claims she’s done everything from sleeping with his best friend to stabbing him in the neck. They’re divorcing, and he claims she stole $3,000 worth of his stuff, so he’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff took his things with the police present, so she claims he’s making it up.
