    The People’s Court Podcast

    The honorable Judge Marilyn Milian presides over the four-time Emmy award winning “The People’s Court.” For more than two decades, Milian has dispensed justice and provided legal insight in the courtroom where justice and reality collide. And now, you can take the show on the go with “The People’s Court Podcast.”

    “The People’s Court Podcast” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Judge Milian. Running the gamut from disputes between neighbors and family members, to dissatisfied customers suing businesses, Milian’s decisions – based on current law – are final and binding.

    Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In the courtroom, Milian is joined by court officer Douglas McIntosh. Doug Llewelyn interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases.

    Show notes

    The plaintiff says the defendant is his younger brother. He alleges the defendant stole a valuable Marc Chagall painting from their father that the plaintiff was supposed to sell. He’s suing for $5,000 for the theft. The defendant says he and his brother haven’t had a relationship in 30 years. He says the painting is a fake and is worth nothing.

    The plaintiff says he rented an uninhabitable apartment from the sketchy defendant, and he can’t get his money back, so he’s suing. The defendant says he installed new appliances and the plaintiff walked away and broke the lease. He’s countersuing for rent owed.

    The plaintiff says she’s an author who rented a party space for her novel’s prerelease event. She accidentally paid for it twice and the defendant refuses to return the money, so she’s suing. The defendant claims the plaintiff didn’t meet the food and bar minimum, and the plaintiff actually owes her.

    'Dissing a Dad', 'Causing a Weedy Big Problem' & 'Not Holding It In' Jun 27, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says he bought a car for the defendant, his daughter, and put it in his name. He claims she got into an accident and pocketed the insurance money, so he’s suing her to teach her a lesson. The defendant says the plaintiff bought the car as a gift, and she paid for the insurance. She claims the new woman in her dad’s life is just money hungry, and that’s why he’s suing.

    The plaintiff says he hired the defendant to power wash his front walkway, remove the weeds, and fill in the cracks with sand. He alleges the defendant didn’t complete the work after he was paid in full, so he and his wife are suing for a refund. The defendant says he told the plaintiffs the weeds would grow back because the pavers weren’t installed correctly.

    The plaintiff says the defendant was her roommate. She claims he smoked in the house, stiffed her on rent, and peed on the rug in his room for some reason. She’s suing for the repairs and unpaid rent. The defendant says the plaintiff constantly had sex with her boyfriend on the couch. He alleges the plaintiff’s family members and their pets are to blame for the pee.

    'Causing a Little Accident', 'Yelling Cut' & 'Running Away With The Rent' Jun 26, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says she was driving her Mercedes to work when the defendant ran a red light because she was looking at her phone. Not only that, her insurance was expired. She’s suing for what she’s owed for repairs. The defendant says she was going slowly to turn and the plaintiff ran into her.

    The plaintiff says the defendant hired him to shoot his rap video. He sent him an edited copy, but the defendant is refusing to pay him. He’s suing for what’s he’s owed. The defendant says the video was good, but he asked for changes and the plaintiff freaked out. He says he doesn’t owe because the product isn’t what he wanted.

    The plaintiff says the defendant is his ex-girlfriend. He claims she pocketed his share of the rent and never gave it to the landlord, so they got evicted. He alleges she also got him arrested and stole his belongings, so he’s suing. The defendant says her ex put his hands on her and he violated an order of protection. She denies owing him anything. She’s countersuing for stolen belongings and pain and suffering.

    'Having Vicious Propensities', 'Setting Off a Sister' & 'Being Fishy' Jun 25, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says one of the defendant’s dogs lifted the latch on her gate with his snout, got into her yard, and attacked her elderly dog. The dog then bit a neighbor, and her dog needed emergency vet care. The defendant won’t pay for it, so she’s suing. The defendant says the dogs aren’t hers, and the plaintiff’s gate wasn’t closed. She claims the plaintiff is just trying to milk her for extra money.

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her sister and they lived together until they got into a fight. Her sister told the plaintiff she could leave her belongings behind until she found a new place, but then she tossed them all on the street. Items got ruined in the rain, so she’s suing her sister for their value. The defendant says she gave her sister lots of chances to pick up her abandoned things before she tossed them in the garbage.

    The plaintiff says she met the defendant on a dating app and he owes her money. She’s suing him out of principle. The defendant says the plaintiff stayed with him when she got out of jail, and she agreed to pay him rent. He claims the money she gave him was to cover that.

    'Ripping Off a Radio Star,' 'Being an Under-payer' & 'Being Unfair' Jun 24, 2024

    The plaintiff says he worked on the defendant’s radio show for two years before he quit because he was being abused and embarrassed on the air. He’s suing for outstanding pay. The defendant says the plaintiff was just a recurring guest who promoted items. He asserts he never promised to pay him.

    The plaintiff says he’s a jack of all trades hired by the defendant to do some work around her home. He claims she’s stiffing him for most of the money owed, so he’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff did a bad job and never gave her hourly rate. She’s countersuing for storing the plaintiff’s rototiller.

    The plaintiff says the defendant is a money-hungry landlord. He’s suing her for money he claims she owes him for a security deposit and punitive damages. The defendant says the plaintiff refused a rent increase, so she had to evict him. She alleges he ruined her wood floors, and she’s countersuing for unpaid rent and damages.

    'Bowing Out On Bail', 'Fouling Up a House' & 'Wrecking A Recording' Jun 21, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff brings her ex-husband to court. She says the defendant called her because their son was in jail, and he needed to be bailed out. The plaintiff sent money to get their son out, and she thought the defendant would pay half, but she ended up paying the full bail amount. She’s suing for the cost of the bail. The defendant argues he couldn’t pay half because he needed to wait until he got his paycheck the next day. He thinks the plaintiff owes him thousands in back pay for child support.

    The plaintiff hired the defendants to fix the foundation in his house and repair a chimney. He argues his house is in worse shape now than it was before and is in disrepair. He’s suing for damages. The defendants say they did a great job, and they couldn’t even finish the work. They’re countersuing for tools that weren’t returned.

    The plaintiff hired the defendant to record an audiobook that would work on iTunes. She claims the audiobook failed requirements to get on iTunes, and they re-recorded it several times, but it continued to not be approved. She’s suing for a refund. The defendant argues the plaintiff does not understand how long it takes to record an audiobook, and she backed out of the contract.

    'Fouling up a Furnace', 'Causing a Woman to Fall' & 'Making a Woman Wait' Jun 20, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiffs rented a storefront to the defendant for her pet grooming and dog training business. She claims the defendant cut wires and poured antifreeze into a furnace, so it broke. They’re suing for four months of rent. The defendant argues the furnace never worked and the plaintiffs never fixed it. She’s countersuing for lost wages for 11 months.

    The plaintiff says the defendant let a truck park in his parking spot, which is right next to the plaintiff’s spot. She fell over the truck’s chain and now she’s badly injured and disfigured. She’s suing for pain and suffering, medical bills, and a detective fee. The defendant argues the plaintiff went onto his property and that’s how she tripped. He says it’s her fault that she fell because she trespassed.

    The plaintiff hired the defendant to install a fence on her property. She says she paid him a deposit, but after a year and a half, he still hadn’t started. She’s suing for a refund on her deposit. The defendant argues the plaintiff kept changing her mind about what she wanted. He’s countersuing for storage fees.

    'Causing a Customer Some Dread', 'Lazy Landlording' & 'Turning Up The Heat' Jun 19, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says she went to the defendant to get her dreadlocks redone, but she botched the job, and now the plaintiff has to cut off all her hair. She’s suing for pain and suffering. The defendant argues that she worked on the plaintiff’s hair, and everything was fine. The defendant explained the method she was using and is now countersuing for time missed from work.

    The plaintiff claims that his landlord never paid the bills on time, and he went without heat, electricity, cable, and internet on numerous occasions, so he moved out. Now he’s being hassled out of a security deposit and suing for the money he’s owed. The defendant argues that the plaintiff is a gross exaggerator. Plus, the plaintiff stole his surfboard as ransom and is responsible for damages. The defendant is countersuing for travel costs and missed work.

    The plaintiff and defendant were friends, and he let the defendant stay at his home when he fell on rough times. The plaintiff says the defendant overloaded his washing machine and dryer several times, and now it’s broken. He’s suing for the cost of new washing machine. The defendant argues he only used the dryer once and the plaintiff said it was already broken.

    'Being Inappropriate', 'Not Getting The Job Done' & 'Bumming Out His Baby's Mama' Jun 18, 2024

    The plaintiff says her former roommate was a nightmare to live with, and she’s suing him for unpaid utility bills. The defendant argues that he and his roommate had an agreement that guests couldn’t stay for four consecutive days, and she broke that rule. The defendant also claims he was overcharged for rent, so now he’s countersuing.

    Then, the plaintiff says she hired the defendant to take her daughter’s wedding guests to and from a hotel via limo. Minutes before the plaintiff was supposed to walk down the aisle with her daughter, 14 of her guests weren’t there because the defendant forgot to pick them up. Now she’s suing. The defendant argues that he was never told he was supposed to pick up guests from the hotel.

    Plus, the plaintiff says she moved from Pittsburgh to New York and rented an apartment from the defendant. She claims the place was a disaster and should have been condemned for mold, bare sockets, and more. The defendant won’t return her money, so she’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff and her daughter drove to New York, saw the place, and loved it. She claims the plaintiff is a loon who broke the lease, so she’s entitled to keep the money.

    'Going On a Spending Spree', 'Whacking a Car' & 'Keeping The Cash without Reason' Jun 17, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff claims the defendant, his ex-girlfriend, stole money from him and won’t pay him back. Now he needs the court’s help to get back the money he says he’s owed. The defendant argues that she and the plaintiff got into a fight, and she left with the money, treated herself to a hotel room, a massage, champagne, and strawberries. The defendant says the plaintiff freeloaded off her and lived rent-free in her apartment.

    Then, the plaintiff says her ex-boyfriend destroyed her car with an axe while she was at home, freaking out the neighbors and totaling her car. She’s still making payments for the car, so she’s suing him for the money she’s owed. The defendant argues that the plaintiff is lying and claims she set him up and had three guys attack him with baseball bats. The defendant is filing a countersuit for theft and pain and suffering.

    Plus, the plaintiff says he rented an apartment from the defendant. After moving out, he was denied the security deposit, so now he’s suing. The defendant argues that the plaintiff hosted huge parties and lit a bonfire so big all the neighbors could see. She also says the plaintiff didn’t give 30 days’ notice and was responsible for damages. The defendant is countersuing for the money she thinks she’s owed.
