    The People’s Court Podcast

    The honorable Judge Marilyn Milian presides over the four-time Emmy award winning “The People’s Court.” For more than two decades, Milian has dispensed justice and provided legal insight in the courtroom where justice and reality collide. And now, you can take the show on the go with “The People’s Court Podcast.”

    “The People’s Court Podcast” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Judge Milian. Running the gamut from disputes between neighbors and family members, to dissatisfied customers suing businesses, Milian’s decisions – based on current law – are final and binding.

    Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In the courtroom, Milian is joined by court officer Douglas McIntosh. Doug Llewelyn interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases.

    'Pooping Out On a Puppy Deal', 'Ticking Off a Tenant' & 'Not Following The Law' Jul 26, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says she worked with the defendant, and she introduced her co-plaintiff so their dogs could breed. She claims they were each supposed to get a puppy, but the defendant didn’t follow through, so they’re suing. The defendant says the plaintiff wanted to mate a female pup with its father, and she said she refused to give them a dog so she could protect the litter. They’re countersuing for pain and suffering.

    The plaintiff says she moved out of the defendant’s neglected, dilapidated apartment, but he won’t return her security deposit. She’s suing for double damages. The defendant says the plaintiff opened a can of worms because she and her son trashed the place. He’s countersuing for damages.

    The plaintiff says she bought her son a hoverboard from the defendant’s store. The state law says her son was too young to use it, so she tried to return it, but the defendant refused. She’s suing for a refund. The defendant says the law applies to another state. He said he made it clear that he only issues store credit, not refunds.

    'Going Overboard', 'Causing a Tenant To Be Wet and Bothered' & 'Bending a Customer Out Of Shape' Jul 25, 2024

    The plaintiff says she and the defendant were roommates, but things didn’t work out with the temperamental defendant. She’s suing for the value of her belongings after the defendant threw them out on the street. The defendant says the plaintiff is lying. She alleges her former friend stole her items and donated them, so she’s countersuing for their worth.

    Then, the plaintiff says she stored belongings in the basement of the two-family home her mother rents, but they got wet in a rainstorm. The defendant, who also lives there, is the only person who could have left the windows open, so she’s suing him for compensation. The defendant says the plaintiff isn’t his tenant, and he denies that there are water issues in the basement.

    Plus, the plaintiff says he was driving his restored Cadillac and it was T-boned, so he took it to the defendant for repair. He says the defendant parked it on the street and got three tickets, and also failed to fix it properly. He’s suing for part of the repair costs and the tickets. The defendant says he did straighten the frame, and the plaintiff waited too long to pick it up, so the tickets are the plaintiff’s fault.

    'Getting Carried Away Over a Car', & 'Throwing It All Away' Jul 24, 2024

    The plaintiff says the defendant is his ex-girlfriend, and he helped her get a leased car. He claims she crashed the vehicle and pocketed the insurance money, but he’s the one responsible for the repairs. He’s suing her for the amount he has to pay. The defendant says the insurance check got stolen and the plaintiff paid the repair shop on his own.

    The plaintiff says he rented space in the defendant’s warehouse, and the man let people in who ransacked the place. In addition, the defendant tossed out his belongings, so he’s suing for the value. The defendant says the rental area was an open space. He claims the plaintiff stopped paying rent and abandoned his stuff. He’s countersuing for the cost of removing the plaintiff’s items.

    'Being a Pane In The Glass', 'Being Doggone Stubborn', & 'Tempting a Tenant to Sue' Jul 23, 2024

    The plaintiff says she hired the defendant and paid her in full to install a new window. She claims it’s a scam company, because she still doesn’t have the window a year later. She’s suing for a refund. The defendant says she ordered the custom window, but the wrong one arrived. She reordered another one, but the plaintiff wanted out of the deal. The defendant claims it’s not fair since she is out for a restocking fee and prep work.

    Then, the plaintiff says he came home from a weekend away to find his cat wrapped in a blanket on his porch, dead. He says the apologetic defendants admitted their two rescue dogs killed his cat, but then he reported the incident. He’s suing for cremation fees, the memoriam, and a new cat. The defendants say they don’t believe the cat was the defendant’s, and he’s trying to scam them. They say their dogs were investigated, and they never hurt a fly. They think a bobcat spotted in the neighborhood must have attacked the poor cat.

    Plus, the plaintiff says she was a good tenant for the defendant, but now the woman is ripping her off by withholding her security deposit. She’s fighting back and suing for what she’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff shortchanged her on rent and left the place a mess. She’s not returning a penny.

    'Hey! Supervise Your Kid', 'Standing His Ground', & 'Being a Big Delayer' Jul 22, 2024

    The plaintiff says the defendant came to her salon with her kids and one of them broke her iPad. She’s suing for the cost to replace it. The defendant says her children and the plaintiff’s daughter were all playing, and there’s no proof the defendant’s child was responsible.

    Then, the plaintiffs say they have a mold remediation company, and the defendant refuses to pay for a storage pod they rented for him when his basement needed work. They’re suing for what they’re owed. The defendant claims he was told the storage fees were much less than the bill he got, so he refuses to be gouged.

    Plus, the plaintiff says she agreed to move into an apartment the defendant, a broker, had offered. She says the moving day kept being put off, so she’s had to find another place. She’s suing for her money back. The defendant says he found a suitable place, but the plaintiff changed her mind. He says he owes nothing.

    'Control That JunkYard Dog', 'Being Rough Around The Edges' & 'Taking On a Tenant' Jul 19, 2024

    The plaintiff says her neighbor’s dog lunged at her and ripped her coat. The defendant refuses to cover the cost of the coat, so she’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff is a horrible neighbor who taunts her dog and even tried to kick his dog as she walked by, so his pet was just defending himself.

    Then, the plaintiff says he bought a granite kitchen countertop from the defendant, but it felt rough, so he complained. He says the defendant told him that was the way it was supposed to be. The plaintiff says the sealant was wrong, so he’s suing. The defendant says he installed it correctly and even went to the plaintiff’s home to fix it but got stood up. He’s countersuing for lost time at work.

    Plus, the plaintiff says she rented a guesthouse from the defendant’s mother for 10 years, but her son succeeded in kicking her out after his mother died. She’s suing for her security deposit. The defendant says the plaintiff stopped paying rent when she was going through a nasty divorce, and that made his mother feel unsafe.

    'Stopping Payments', 'A Carpet Caper' & 'Making a Grave Mistake' Jul 18, 2024

    The plaintiff says she and her husband agreed to rent a house from the defendant but changed their minds. They say the defendant promised to refund all their money, but he didn’t, so they’re suing. The defendant says he returned everything but the last payment, which is way more than most landlords would do.

    The plaintiff says she bought wall-to-wall carpeting from the defendant, but they brought the wrong color on they day they were going to install it, so she refused the delivery. She still doesn’t have the correct carpet, so she’s suing for a refund. The defendant says the plaintiff did pick that carpet at the store but didn’t like it when it was delivered. He let her order three different carpets and she still isn’t satisfied.

    The plaintiff says he hired the defendant to make a headstone for his father’s grave, but he made a mistake in the date of the engraving. It can’t be repaired, so he has no choice but to sue. The defendant says he sent over paperwork and the plaintiff approved everything. He claims it’s not his fault because the plaintiff signed off on it.

    'Missing The Money Shot' & 'Holding On Tight' Jul 17, 2024

    The plaintiff says she hired the defendant to photograph her wedding and create an album. She alleges it was a mess and he didn’t complete the job, so she’s suing for a refund. The defendant says the bride was a raving lunatic on her wedding day, and she complained that her guests didn’t look attractive in the pictures.

    Then, The plaintiff says she gave her landlord notice when she moved and left the place immaculate, but the defendant refuses to return her security deposit. She’s suing for all she’s owed. The defendant says he lowered the rent when the plaintiff lost her job and she never paid it back, so he took it from her security deposit. He’s countersuing for back rent.

    'Running a Rottem-Rooming House', 'Tuning Out a Tenant' & 'Messing Up The Ink' Jul 16, 2024

    The plaintiff says he and his mother rented a place from the defendant, but it turned out to be an illegal rooming house full of drunks and criminals. He’s suing for a refund on the rent after he got kicked out for reporting the defendant. The defendant says the plaintiff swore like a sailor and was so out of control that he killed his own cat.

    Then, the plaintiff says she rented an apartment from the defendants, but nothing worked. When she complained, they left a vulgar message, so she moved out because she felt unsafe. She’s suing for what she’s out. The defendants say the plaintiff is annoying and moves from place to place trying to avoid paying rent. They deny owing anything, especially since she broke the lease.

    Plus, the plaintiff says he hired the defendant to make T-shirts for a biker event, but almost all of them were defective and he wasn’t able to sell them. He’s suing for the maximum allowed. The defendant says he delivered the shirts, but the plaintiff waited 45 days to complain. He alleges it’s because the sales were slow and the plaintiff is trying to make up his losses.

He alleges the man is trying to get him to move out because he pays low rent, and he alleges the defendant is harassing him and enters his apartment without permission. He’s suing for $10,000. The defendant says he’s only doing his job, and he’s countersuing for $10,000 for harassment.

    Plus, the plaintiff says she and the defendant have done business for years. She claims the defendant hired her to cook for a big event, and she even hired staff and bought supplies, but then the defendant dumped her. She’s suing for what she’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff flaked out on her at the last minute and failed to return phone calls, so she had to hire someone else.
