    The People’s Court Podcast

    The honorable Judge Marilyn Milian presides over the four-time Emmy award winning “The People’s Court.” For more than two decades, Milian has dispensed justice and provided legal insight in the courtroom where justice and reality collide. And now, you can take the show on the go with “The People’s Court Podcast.”

    “The People’s Court Podcast” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Judge Milian. Running the gamut from disputes between neighbors and family members, to dissatisfied customers suing businesses, Milian’s decisions – based on current law – are final and binding.

    Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In the courtroom, Milian is joined by court officer Douglas McIntosh. Doug Llewelyn interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases.

    Show notes

    First, the plaintiff says she brought a wig to the defendant so she could apply it to the plaintiff’s head. She claims the woman ruined it and put some sort of oily substance in it and it disintegrated. She’s suing for the cost of a new wig. The defendant says the plaintiff’s wig was in pretty bad shape when it was brought in, and she did the best she could with it.

    Then, the plaintiff says she lived with the defendant after she got out of prison, but she left because of all his oppressive rules. He kept her furniture, so she’s suing for the value of the items. The defendant says he felt bad for the plaintiff, but she was supposed to pay him to store the items and never did, so he tossed everything.

    'Fashion Faux Pas' & 'Stealing Her Own Car' Aug 08, 2024
    Show notes

    First, the plaintiff says the defendants hired her to send out VIP invitations and create press releases for a New York fashion event and they agreed to pay her $5,000. She says she did an outstanding job, but they’re refusing to compensate her in full. She’s suing for what she’s still owed. The defendants say they hired the plaintiff to also raise funds for their event, but she didn’t. They’re countersuing for a refund on services not rendered.

    Then, the plaintiff says he repaired the defendant’s car, but she stole it off his lot before she paid him for all his hard work and the parts he bought. He’s suing for every penny he’s owed. The defendant says she hired the plaintiff to put in a new engine and he didn’t do it. She says he actually owes her money and is countersuing for missed work.

    'Being All Wet' & 'Help! You Ruined my Hair' Aug 07, 2024
    Show notes

    First, the plaintiff says she hired the defendant to install a frameless door in her shower, but it leaks badly every time she showers. She claims the defendant told her it wasn’t his problem, so she’s suing for a full refund. The defendant says he told the plaintiff she needed to change the inexpensive pipe in the showerhead and she agreed but then failed to do so even though it would correct the problem.

    Then, the plaintiff says she hired the defendant to put faux locs in her hair, but she used real ones and they’re so heavy they caused neck pain. She’s suing for a refund. The defendant says she’s been braiding hair for years. She claims she did an outstanding job and the woman turned nasty. She’s countersuing for defamation and wasted time.

    'Taking Advantage' & 'Causing Family Drama' Aug 06, 2024

    First, the plaintiff worked for the defendant at his telephone repair shop. He says the defendant sold him a refurbished phone and told him it was new, then refused to pay him for the work he did. He’s suing for breach of contract. The defendant argues he never told the plaintiff he was getting a new phone.

    Then, the plaintiff got a loan in her name and gave it to her brother’s girlfriend, the defendant, because the plaintiff’s brother needed a car. The plaintiff says the defendant racked up parking tickets in her name, and the car got repossessed, so she’s suing. The defendant doesn’t think she owes anything.

    'Going Car Crazy', 'Letting an Ex Down' & 'Creating a Hairy Situation' Aug 05, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says one day at a red light, the defendants threw an unopened can of iced tea at his car, denting it in the process, so he’s suing for damages. The defendants insist the plaintiff instigated the dispute, and they deny causing any actual damage to his car.

    The plaintiff and the defendant used to be in a relationship, but the plaintiff says things ended quickly when the defendant threw her out of their place. After the breakup, the plaintiff alleges the defendant didn’t take her name off the electric and cable bill, and now her credit’s ruined, so she’s suing. The defendant insists the plaintiff was the one who walked out on him and their child, and he denies owing her anything.

    The plaintiff purchased what she thought was real hair from the defendant to make a custom wig. Unfortunately, she says she was duped and received synthetic hair instead, so the plaintiff is suing for a refund. The defendant insists the plaintiff didn’t care for the hair properly and that’s on the plaintiff, not her.

    'Bugging Out a Tenant', 'What a Download' & 'Cat-Napping on the Job' Aug 02, 2024
    Show notes

    First, the plaintiff rented an apartment from the defendant. However, the building was infested with bed bugs, and her stuff was ruined, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant claims this whole case is a hoax so the plaintiff can get out of her lease early.

    Then, the plaintiff has known the defendant for decades. The defendant hired the plaintiff to repair his computer. However, the defendant failed to pay, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant claims the plaintiff failed to properly fix the computer, so he had to buy a new one.

    Plus, the plaintiffs' cat urinated on their furniture, and they hired the defendant to reupholster the chairs. However, when the chairs were returned, they still smelled bad, so the plaintiffs are suing. The defendant claims he spent months stripping the chairs and reupholstering them. He believes he did a fantastic job, and they were odor-free. The defendant is countersuing for the cost of fabric.

    'Saying Neigh to a Neighbor', 'Not Treating a Lady Right' & 'Losing It' Aug 01, 2024

    The plaintiff says she took out a line of credit for her neighbor, the defendant, so she could buy Christmas presents, but the woman hasn’t paid her back. She’s suing for what she’s owed. The defendant says she was making payments every month, but she alleges the credit company stopped accepting her payments. She’s countersuing for emotional distress.

    The plaintiff says she put down a deposit to rent an apartment from the defendant, but she changed her mind the very next day. She wants her money back, so she’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff signed the contract, and the deposit isn’t refundable.

    The plaintiff says he dropped off his expensive suit and shirt at the defendant’s dry cleaner, but his items were gone when he went back. He’s suing for the lost clothing. The defendant says the plaintiff did pick his items and then came back to try to scam her.

    The plaintiff says she and her mother hired the defendant to sell some of their antiques, but they allege the defendant is keeping too much of the money. They’re suing for what they claim they’re owed. The defendant says she paid the annoying plaintiff every penny owed per the contract.

    Then, the plaintiff says he hired the defendant to install granite countertops in his new kitchen, but the defendant hacked up his cabinets so badly that it voided the warranty. He’s suing for what he’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff went cheap on cabinets and things didn’t fit, but the plaintiff’s wife told him to do whatever he needed to install the counter.

    'Being Color Blind', 'Taking Advantage', & 'Having No Heart' Jul 30, 2024

    The plaintiff says she bought ceramic tiles for her bathroom from the defendant, but they ended up not matching because they were mismarked. The defendant says she’ll offer new tiles, but she won’t pay to have them reinstalled, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant says the plaintiff should have noticed the colors didn’t match.

    The plaintiff says the defendant towed his truck after an accident, but he grossly overcharged him. He’s suing for his money back. The defendant says he already gave the plaintiff a huge break on his bill by not charging storage.

    The plaintiff says he gave the defendant a good faith deposit on a home he wanted to purchase, but then the bank bailed on the loan. The unsympathetic defendant won’t return the money, so he’s suing him. The defendant says the plaintiff’s loan was denied, and deposits aren’t refundable.

    'Upsetting Her Mother', 'Cutting Out a Caretaker' & 'Lazy Landscaping' Jul 29, 2024

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her daughter, and she abandoned her own mother at an apartment they rented and left her on the hook. She’s suing for rent and a loan. The defendant says her mother owes her for bills and food, not the other way around.

    Then, the plaintiff says she agreed to co-sign a loan with the defendant to bring her home up to code, but the defendant backed out and got a reverse mortgage. She’s suing for the fees she’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff is her caregiver and she’s an opportunistic scammer who was already paid.

    Plus, the plaintiff says she hired the defendant to do landscaping work and paid him in advance, but he didn’t finish the job. She’s suing for a refund. The defendant says he did a lot of work on the vindictive plaintiff’s yard, and his books say the account is at zero. He’s countersuing for defamation and harassment.
