    The People’s Court Podcast

    The honorable Judge Marilyn Milian presides over the four-time Emmy award winning “The People’s Court.” For more than two decades, Milian has dispensed justice and provided legal insight in the courtroom where justice and reality collide. And now, you can take the show on the go with “The People’s Court Podcast.”

    “The People’s Court Podcast” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Judge Milian. Running the gamut from disputes between neighbors and family members, to dissatisfied customers suing businesses, Milian’s decisions – based on current law – are final and binding.

    Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In the courtroom, Milian is joined by court officer Douglas McIntosh. Doug Llewelyn interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases.

    'Hold on to That Beast' or 'Else & Blowing Hot Air' Sep 06, 2024
    Show notes

    First, the plaintiff says he went to a dog-friendly restaurant with his two huskies and the defendant’s dog charged them. He says her dog bit his finger during the fight and the defendant promised to pay for his medical bills. She never did, so he’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff’s dogs were misbehaving and approached her table, so her dog defended himself. She says she owes nothing.

    Then, the plaintiff says her upstairs neighbor, the defendant, poured cocoa powder into her air conditioner and fried it. The police saw the security footage and agreed it was intentional. Now the defendant won’t buy her a new unit, so she’s suing. The defendant says she bought sugar-free cocoa for her son, but he didn’t like it and he poured it out the window so she wouldn’t find out. She’s countersuing for plumbing costs and emotional distress.

    'Wedding Woes' & 'Losing Control' Sep 05, 2024
    Show notes

    First, the plaintiffs say they had to postpone their wedding because of COVID, so the defendant told them they could use the flower deposit they had given her for a future event. When they called to reschedule, the defendant had doubled her prices, so they’re suing for a full refund. The defendant claims the couple changed the flower arrangements, which added to the cost. Her deposits are nonrefundable, and she’s countersuing for the balance on the original contract.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant’s dog attacked her dog, which resulted in an injury and abscess that almost killed him. The insensitive defendant is trying to dodge responsibility, so she’s suing for what she’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff’s dog bit his dog first, so his dog was just defending himself. He’s countersuing for harassment.

    'Faking It' & 'You Ruined Me' Sep 04, 2024
    Show notes

    First, the plaintiff says the defendant has a bogus illegal sign in front of her house claiming parking isn’t allowed. The plaintiff’s car was towed and the company caused damages, so she’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff parked and blocked her driveway, so the car was towed.

    Then, the plaintiff says she went to the defendants’ establishment to get her eyebrows shaped, but they botched the job. One brow is too big and the other droops. She’s suing for the state max for all she’s out. The defendants say they did everything humanly possible, but the plaintiff is impossible to please. They’re countersuing for lost work.

    'Conducting Funny Business' & 'Soiling a Relationship' Sep 03, 2024

    First, the plaintiff says the defendant is her boyfriend’s buddy, who was in jail and asked her to cash his stimulus check. She said she would do it for $250, but then he claimed it was cashed illegally. She’s suing for the money the back deducted from her account. The defendant says the plaintiff stole his check and he’s countersuing her.

    Then, the plaintiff says she hired the defendant to make a carnival-themed dress for her 21st birthday, and the woman tried on her dress and posted a picture of her in it. She’s suing for the cost of the costume and a photo shoot. The defendant admits she might have overstepped by putting on the dress, but she wanted to demonstrate it with the headdress. She’s countersuing for unpaid work.

    'Refusing to be Fenced In' & 'Lawnmower Mishap' Sep 02, 2024

    First, the plaintiff says she and the defendant agreed to share the cost of a fence on property they shared. She says the defendant changed her mind after the work had already started and now refuses to pay her portion. The plaintiff is suing for what she’s owed. The defendant says she agreed to split the cost if the fence was nice on both sides, but that’s not what happened. She says she won’t pay for an ugly fence.

    Then, the plaintiff says he rented space on the defendant’s property to store his lawn mower, but a tree fell on it and damaged it. He asked the defendant to make a claim on her insurance, but she refused, so he’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff moved the mower from its original spot and it wasn’t on her property when the tree hit it. She denies owing anything.

    'There's a Killer Dog on the Loose in the Neighborhood' & 'Not Getting the Picture' Aug 30, 2024
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says the defendant’s dog mauled her dog in front of her daughter, and her pet didn’t survive. The police traced the dog in question to the defendant, but he refused to compensate the plaintiff for her loss, so she’s suing. The defendant denies that his dog killed the plaintiff’s dog and insists it’s a case of mistaken identity.

    The plaintiff says she hired the defendant, a photographer, to take pictures for a birthday photo shoot, but he botched the job. The plaintiff says the defendant is a phony, and she still hasn’t received the physical photos, so she’s suing for a refund. The defendant insists he has no idea what the plaintiff is talking about because the plaintiff loved the work and posted the digital photos onto Facebook without his permission. The defendant is countersuing for copyright infringement.

    'Shortchanging an Ex' & 'Poor Jasper' Aug 29, 2024

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant is her ex-husband, and he agreed to contribute $2,000 toward a car for their teen son. He’s now changing the agreement, so she’s suing for the amount he still owes. The defendant admits he said he’d chip in but explained he would not be able to pay in one lump sum. He’s countersuing for the $100 he already paid.

    Plus, the plaintiff says her beloved dog was attacked by the defendant’s canine, so she is suing for vet bills. The defendant insists he and other people in the neighborhood have had issues with the plaintiff’s dog. The defendant claims the plaintiff’s dog went onto his property, and he is not responsible for her dog’s misbehavior.

    'Running Renter's Out' & 'Poor Zoey' Aug 28, 2024

    First, the plaintiff says he and his fiancé rented a room from the defendant, but they were illegally kicked out. The defendant refuses to return the rent they’re owed, so they’re suing. The defendant says she and one of the plaintiffs got into an argument, so she told them to get out.

    Then, the plaintiff says he and the defendant were friends for 30 years, and he purchased a purebred puppy from him. Unfortunately, the defendant allegedly sold the plaintiff a sickly puppy who had seizures and died on the plaintiff’s kitchen floor, so the plaintiff is suing for a refund. The defendant says the plaintiff had the puppy for a year and never took the canine to the vet. The defendant insists the plaintiff is at fault for the puppy’s death.

    'Not Having a Heart' & 'Causing a Dog Fight' Aug 27, 2024

    First, the plaintiff says she rented an apartment from the defendant, but he forced her out and wouldn’t renew her lease. Not only that, but he kept her security deposit, so she’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff tried to stiff him on the last month’s rent, so he kept the deposit.

    Then, the plaintiff says she and the defendant both had their dogs at a local park when the defendant’s dog attacked the plaintiff’s. The plaintiff is suing the defendant for vet bills and training sessions. The defendant claims his dog has never attacked anyone or any other canine.

    'Dissing His Girlfriend' & 'Busting it....But Good' Aug 26, 2024

    First, the plaintiff says the defendant is her ex-boyfriend and they used to live together. He stalked her and made death threats, but she’s suing for money he still owes her. The defendant says the plaintiff moved out and didn’t pay the last few months of rent, so he’s keeping the security deposit. He’s countersuing for back rent.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant was his friend, but then the defendant broke the handle on the door of his car and refuses to pay. The plaintiff is suing for the damages. The defendant claims all he did was try to open the door, and he didn’t do anything wrong — it’s not like the defendant has superhuman strength.
