    The People’s Court Podcast

    The honorable Judge Marilyn Milian presides over the four-time Emmy award winning “The People’s Court.” For more than two decades, Milian has dispensed justice and provided legal insight in the courtroom where justice and reality collide. And now, you can take the show on the go with “The People’s Court Podcast.”

    “The People’s Court Podcast” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Judge Milian. Running the gamut from disputes between neighbors and family members, to dissatisfied customers suing businesses, Milian’s decisions – based on current law – are final and binding.

    Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In the courtroom, Milian is joined by court officer Douglas McIntosh. Doug Llewelyn interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases.

    'Wasting a Sister's Money' & 'Switching Things Up' Sep 20, 2024
    Show notes

    First, the plaintiff says the defendant is her older brother, and he works on air conditioning systems. She says she hired him to fix her furnace and he made unnecessary repairs, so she wants her wasted money back. The defendant says he replaced the stuff his sister insisted on, and he can’t believe he’s being sued.

    Then, the plaintiff says she rented the defendant’s catering hall for a wedding reception. A month later, the defendant told her she was moving the party’s location because she was having problems with the city. The new location was a basement, so she asked for her deposit back. The defendant refused, so she’s suing. The defendant says she was ready to provide catering services, and the deposit is not refundable. She’s countersuing for the outstanding contract and defamation.

    'Fixing Nothing' & 'Taking Too Much Off the Top' Sep 19, 2024
    Show notes

    First, the plaintiff says she rented a duplex apartment from the defendants. She claims they ignored a damaged gutter, which allowed critters to get into the attic and keep her up all night. She claims they invented fake damages, and she’s suing for what she’s owed. The defendants say the plaintiff broke her lease, and they sent her a list of the damages. They deny owing her any money.

    Then, the plaintiff says she hired the defendant to take in her daughter’s prom dress, but he cut it up and changed the whole style. The dress was ruined and she had to buy a new one, so she’s suing for a full refund. The defendant says he’s been sewing for 59 years and did exactly what the plaintiff’s daughter had asked for.

    'Causing a Family Fall Out' & 'The Sweetheart Swindler' Sep 18, 2024

    First, the plaintiff says the defendant is her sister, who gave the plaintiff one of her kidneys 10 years ago. No matter how selfless that was, the defendant owes the plaintiff money for babysitting, a loan, and her share of a hotel room, so she’s suing her. The defendant says her sister is being petty and cheap, and she denies owing anything.

    Then, the plaintiff says she met the defendant through an online dating app and they were together for a year and a half. She claims she loaned him money for his mortgage and then he ghosted her. She also found out he was seeing someone else, and she’s suing for what she’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff told him the money was a gift and she only sued once he started seeing someone else.

    'Not Getting the Job Done' & 'Causing a Dietary Death' Sep 17, 2024

    First, the plaintiff says he hired the defendant, a lawyer, to represent him in a case against his neighbor about a noisy air conditioner. The man took his money and never did a thing, so he’s suing for his money back. The defendant says the erratic plaintiff never gave him a chance to complete the work. He refuses to give him a refund and is countersuing for harassment

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant watched his cat for a week, and he left specific instructions on which food to feed him. He says the defendant gave his cat vegan food, and the cat died one day after the plaintiff returned home, so he’s suing. The defendant says he’s not responsible for the cat’s death, and he’s countersuing for harassment.

    'Taking Advantage of a Lover' & 'Running Away' Sep 16, 2024

    The plaintiff says she dated the defendant and paid for all sorts of things for him. She says the slickster always promised to pay her back, but he never did. She’s suing to get back what she’s owed. The defendant says they both bought things for each other, and any money was a gift.

    The plaintiff says the defendant was his tenant, but the man flooded the place so he didn’t renew the lease. He also says the tenant snuck out in the middle of the night and trashed the place, so he’s suing for the cost of damages. The defendant says the plaintiff is making up the damages and even stole his security deposit. He’s countersuing for money he’s still owed.

    'Lousey Land-Lording 101' & 'Playing Games' Sep 13, 2024

    The plaintiff says she overpaid rent to the defendant, but the woman refuses to give it back, even after she took care of her grandparents. The defendant says she provides crisis housing and the plaintiff rented a room but didn’t pay in full. She also alleges the plaintiff didn’t show up for work to care for the defendant’s grandparents.

    The plaintiff says his car was towed to the defendant’s shop and then his PlayStation 5 went missing from the trunk. He also says the defendant won’t let him see the security tape, so he’s suing for the value of the PS5. The defendant says the plaintiff came to clean out the car because it was totaled, and then he called the next day to say the PS5 was missing. He denies anything was stolen.

    The plaintiff says he hired the defendant to look after his two dogs, but she lost one of them. She claimed the dog got out after seeing a bunny and chased it. He still hasn’t found his beloved pet, so he’s suing for $3,500. The defendant says it wasn’t her fault the dog bolted and she did offer to help him look. She’s countersuing for the dog-sitting fees and defamation.

    The plaintiff says he loaned the defendant money and she promised to pay him back and never did. He also alleges she stole his debit card and went on a spending spree. He’s suing for he’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff wanted a relationship with her, but she wasn’t interested and even had to call the cops on him once.

    'Crummy Contracting' & 'Well, That's Not Very Nice' Sep 11, 2024

    First, the plaintiff says she hired the defendant to build her some shelves and cabinets. She paid him thousands of dollars, but he never did the work. He told her he wouldn’t complete the work unless the plaintiff slept with him, and then he slashed her tires. She’s suing for her money back. The defendant says the plaintiff sprayed graffiti on his truck and kicked his fenders. He denies slashing the tires, and he’s countersuing for all he’s out.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant vandalized her car with magic markers, covering it with vulgar words and images. The defendant is refusing to pay for the damages, so she’s suing her for the cost of a new paint job. The defendant says the plaintiff called her and threatened to have the kids arrested. She claims they used washable markers and insists her daughter didn’t cause any damage

    'Not Fencing in a Neighbor' & 'Hey, That's My Tipsy' Sep 10, 2024

    First, the plaintiff says the defendant is her neighbor and he agreed to split the cost of a fence with her. She claims he reneged on the deal, so she’s suing him for what she’s owed. The defendant says he agreed to share the cost of a vinyl fence and paid for it, but the plaintiff put up a more expensive block wall, which he can’t afford. He claims she’s the one who broke the deal. He’s countersuing because the plaintiff used an unlicensed installer and his side looks terrible.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendants gave him two cats and then stole one of them back right off the street. He says his kids love the cat, so he’s suing for the return of his pet or $500. The defendants say the cat is theirs and has always been. They’re countersuing for emotional distress.

    'Letting Things Get Too Cold' & 'Stiffing a Tenant' Sep 09, 2024

    First, the plaintiff says he hired the defendant to fix his central air, and he replaced the condenser. The air would never shut off, but after a few months, the problem was finally fixed. He’s suing for the extra utility bills. The defendant says the plaintiff’s heater was malfunctioning and causing the problem. He denies any responsibility for the additional costs.

    Then, the plaintiff says she rented an apartment from the defendant. Now that she’s moved out, the defendant has come up with all sorts of excuses for not returning her security deposit, so she’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff changed the locks, left trash behind, and stiffed her on some of the rent. She’s countersuing for 10 months of late fees.
