Show notes

Writer and director Terence Davies' latest film "Benediction" premiered at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival, where it received strong critical praise for its screenplay depicting the life of WWI poet Siegfried Sassoon and for the leading performance by Jack Lowden, with many citing it as the best of his career. Both Terence and Jack were kind enough to spend a few minutes discussing with us what drew them toward this biopic, what they learned about Siegfried in the making of this movie, their favorite poems by him, and more. "Top Gun: Maverick" May 28, 2022

Show notes

Do you feel the need? The need to listen! For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Cody Dericks, Daniel Howat, Danilo Castro & Will Mavity. Today, we're soaring high in the skies as death-defying megastar Tom Cruise and director Joseph Kosinski finally deliver the sequel to "Top Gun" 36 years later (and after a lot of release delays) with "Top Gun: Maverick." Shooting aerial combat in ways we've never seen before with a story that wears its heart on its sleeve and pays respect to the past while pushing the limits of what's possible for today's cinematic landscape forward, the film is being widely embraced by critics and audiences alike. What did we think of the story, the acting, and the crafts? We discuss all of these topics plus the film's Oscar prospects and where Tom Cruise’s career goes from here in our full review below. Please take a listen to hear all of our thoughts and enjoy!

Interview With "Men" Star, Rory Kinnear May 25, 2022

Show notes

Alex Garland's psychological horror film, "Men," has been polarizing audiences since its release this past weekend from A24. However, the one thing most people seem to agree on in the movie is the performance, or rather, "performances," from actor Rory Kinnear as the numerous men in the film who terrorize Jessie Buckley's character. Rory was kind enough to spend some time talking about what it was like to tackle such a unique project, his acting process, whether he would return to the James Bond franchise if asked, and more. Please take a listen down below and enjoy! Thank you.

"Men" May 24, 2022

Show notes

For our second review this week, Josh Parham, Ema Sasic, Eve O'Dea & Zoe Rose Bryant joined me to discuss the newest film from Alex Garland, "Men," starring Jessie Buckley, Rory Kinnear, Paapa Essiedu & Gayle Rankin. The A24 horror film has garnered a polarizing reception landing a D+ Cinemascore and dividing audiences on where it fits within Garland's filmography alongside his other two films, "Ex Machina" and "Annihilation." What did we think of it, though? We do our best to avoid spoilers in this one as we rummage through our many thoughts on the direction, screenplay, performances, and more. Thank you as always for listening, and enjoy!

Interviews With "Downton Abbey: A New Era" Stars Laura Carmichael, Allen Leech & Writer Julian Fellowes May 23, 2022

Show notes

Following the success of the 2019 film "Downton Abbey," the cast returned for a sequel, penned once again by series creator Julian Fellowes, titled "Downton Abbey: A New Era," which was just released in theaters this weekend. It's a welcome return to a cast of characters we know and love so well by this point that any time we spend with them is truly a gift. Actors Laura Carmichael and Allen Leech see it that way as well, as they reprise their roles as Lady Edith and Tom Branson. Along with Fellowes, the two of them were kind enough to spend some time talking with us about returning to their characters, discussing what they're going through in this film and what lies ahead. Be sure to take a listen down below and enjoy!
