"Avatar: The Way Of Water" Dec 18, 2022

Show notes

For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Amy Smith, Cody Dericks, Daniel Howat & Brendan Hodges. This week we're reviewing what can only be described as the biggest film of the year, "Avatar: The Way Of Water," starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang & Kate Winslet. The film has been 13 years in the making since the original film, "Avatar," shattered box office records to become the highest-grossing film of all time. With a high frame rate, 3D, IMAX formats, and technological advances in CGI and motion capture performance, Cameron is pushing the limits of what's possible in filmmaking once again. What did we think of it? How does it hold up to the first film? How did we feel about the characters, story, and action set pieces? Plus, what does Cameron have planned for the other sequels in the epic sci-fi franchise? We discuss all of this and the film's Oscar prospects in our review below. Thank you for listening, and enjoy!

Interview With "Empire Of Light" Star, Micheal Ward Dec 16, 2022

Show notes

"Empire Of Light" may be the most personal story Academy Award-winning director Sam Mendes has ever made and receiving award nominations for its leading star Olivia Colman and its cinematography by Roger Deakins. Still, one of the film's best assets is its breakout star, BAFTA Rising Star Award winner Micheal Ward ("Blue Story"). The young 25-year-old actor has a bright future ahead of him, and in Mendes' film, he plays opposite Olivia Colman as a new hire employee at the cinema she manages in the 1980s off the south coast of England. Micheal talked with us about what the journey has been like so far for him with this film, where he sees his career next, working with his co-stars on this film, and more. Please take a listen below and enjoy. Thank you!

"The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers" Dec 15, 2022

Show notes

THIS IS A PREVIEW PODCAST. NOT THE FULL REVIEW. Please check out the full podcast review on our Patreon Page by subscribing over at - https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture

For our next throwback review, it's the 20th anniversary of the second part in Academy Award-winner Peter Jackson's epic, masterful trilogy, "The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers," starring Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, John Rhys-Davies, Bernard Hill, Christopher Lee, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, Hugo Weaving, Miranda Otto, David Wenham, Brad Dourif, Karl Urban & Andy Serkis. With the near-impossible task of having to follow up "The Fellowship of the Ring," Jackson and his team managed to equal and, in some cases, surpass the previous film with a more grounded story, deeper characterization, and one of the most influential battle scenes ever shot in cinematic history. Join us for this trip back to Middle Earth as I, Nadia Dalimonte, Danilo Castro, and guest Caroline Thompson discuss the story, performances, visual effects, and other technical wonders that went into creating one of the most memorable movies of our lifetimes. We also discuss its awards season run and more! Thank you for all your support, and enjoy!
