"Creed III" Mar 04, 2023

Show notes

For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Josh Parham and guests Kolby Mac and Duane Miller. This week we're reviewing the directorial debut from Michael B. Jordan and the latest film in the "Creed" franchise, "Creed III" starring Michael B. Jordan, Tessa Thompson, Jonathan Majors, Wood Harris, Florian Munteanu & Phylicia Rashad. What did we think of Michael B. Jordan's directing, his decisions to shoot the boxing scenes with IMAX cameras, where this leaves the Adonis Creed character, the absence of Rocky, and of course, the almighty Jonathan Majors? We discuss all of these points and more in our review, which you can listen to down below. We hope you enjoy it. Thank you!

Show notes

Edward Berger's "All Quiet On The Western Front" is nominated for 9 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best International Feature, and Best Adapted Screenplay. The Netflix WWI film recently won 7 BAFTA awards, including Best Film, and has been a critical success since its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. First, we have Will Mavity'sinterviews with the BAFTA-winning cinematographer James Friend, then the BAFTA-winning sound designer Markus Stemler, followed by production designer Christian M. Goldbeck. Then to end things, we have Dan Bayer's interview with makeup artist Heike Merker. We hope you enjoy this behind-the-scenes look at one of the most technically well-crafted films of 2022. Interviews With "Babylon" Oscar-Nominated Composer Justin Hurwitz & Costume Designer Mary Zophres Mar 03, 2023

Show notes

Damien Chazelle's "Babylon" was one of 2022's largest and most ambitious films. It's fair to say it split everyone who saw it down the middle with their opinions. But an area most could agree on was the film's technical craft. Two frequent Chazelle collaborators, composer Justin Hurwitz and costume designer Mary Zophres were kind enough to spend some time going in-depth on their work for Chazelle's latest. First up is my interview with Hurwitz, where he breaks down the extensive layering of the score, how the film pushed him out of his comfort zone to try new things, if he's open to working with anyone outside Damien Chazelle, and more. Then we have Zoe Rose Bryant's interview with Mary Zophres, where she breaks down the film's elaborate costumes, working with all the different department heads on this massive project, her reaction to some of the criticisms thrown at the film's anachronisms, and more. You do not want to miss listening to these before the Oscars! Please take a listen to them down below and enjoy. Thank you!

For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Josh Parham, Meredith Loftus, Cody Dericks, Eve O'Dea & Danilo Castro. This week we're reviewing the latest film from Elizabeth Banks titled "Cocaine Bear" starring Keri Russell, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Christian Convery, Alden Ehrenreich, Brooklynn Prince, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Margo Martindale & Ray Liotta. A crazy, gnarly, and completely ridiculous premise that shouldn't be taken too seriously. What did we ultimately think of it? Tune in below as we discuss the humor, kills, performances, and more. Thank you for listening, as always, and enjoy!
