Interview With "The Sea Beast" Director Chris Williams & Producer Jed Schlanger Feb 15, 2023

Show notes

"The Sea Beast" dropped on Netflix over the summer to positive reviews but very little recognition from awards voting bodies until we got to the Annie Awards. Afterward, it was nominated for Best Animated Feature Film at this year's Academy Awards. This is one of the year's best animated feature films with an epic scope, beautiful animation, and excellent voice acting. The film marks the Netflix debuts for the former Disney director Chris Williams ("Bolt," "Big Hero 6" and "Moana") and producer Jed Schlanger ("The Boss Baby" & "How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World"). The two of them spent some time talking with us about their work on the film, which you can listen to down below. Enjoy, and be sure to consider the film when casting your ballots this awards season. Thank you.

Interview With "A House Made Of Splinters" Director, Simon Lereng Wilmont Feb 14, 2023

Show notes

"A House Made Of Splinters" had its world premiere at last year's Sundance Film Festival, where it mostly went under the radar for many despite receiving positive reviews. There were questions about its awards eligibility this year, given it did not have a U.S. distributor for the longest time. Still, it went on to receive nominations from various documentary awards voting bodies and even earned a Spirit Award nomination for Best Documentary Feature. Now, the film has been nominated for Best Documentary Feature at this year's Academy Awards, and many are starting to take notice of this delicate, harrowing, and essential piece of work which focuses on orphaned children in a war-torn Ukraine. Director Simon Lereng Wilmont was kind enough to spend a few minutes talking with us about his work on the film, which you can listen to down below. Enjoy, and be sure to consider the film when casting your ballots this awards season. Thank you.

His latest work on "Empire Of Light" reunites him with director Sam Mendes for a fourth time, and he received his sixteenth Oscar nomination for the film a few weeks ago. The film can currently be streamed on HBO Max. Roger was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about his work on the film, working with Sam, how important the location was for this particular shoot, and more. Please take a listen and enjoy. Thank you!

"Magic Mike's Last Dance" Feb 11, 2023

Show notes

For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Dan Bayer & Tom O'Brien. This week we're reviewing the latest film from Steven Soderbergh, "Magic Mike's Last Dance," starring Channing Tatum & Salma Hayek Pinault. The third (and possibly final?) film in the "Magic Mike" trilogy, Soderbergh returns to direct after taking a break from "Magic Mike XXL," and the results have been a bit mixed from audiences and critics. What did we think of it, though? Tune in as we discuss the writing, performances, and, of course, the dancing as we strip down Soderbergh's latest. Thank you, and enjoy!
