Is that my daughter? It's not, but it's a wicked pissah of a flick, if a bit depressing. You get to see people try and largely fail at the Boston accent.

Star Wars Acolyte: Hot Take! Jun 09, 2024
    Show notes

Star Wars Acolyte is activist led trash that focues on subverting the better written things that came before it. Even the power of many can't elevate this streaming pile anymore than Luke could lift that X-wing out of the swamp.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Jun 03, 2024
    Show notes

There’s nothing more Hollywood than dropping a prequel that dives into the backstory of a secondary character from Fury Road.

That said, there’s plenty to like in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. George Miller wisely avoids the pathologically stupid trap so many modern movies fall into — pretending that “strength” for female characters means acting like a hyper-masculine badass. Instead, Furiosa survives and triumphs by being skilled, tough, resourceful, and clever — not by magically out-punching people twice her size.

100% worth a watch, even if it’ll probably be largely forgotten in six months.

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome May 27, 2024
    Show notes

Beyond Thunderdome feels very 80s and not in a good way. The film is solid when they are doing their Barter Town stuff, but once it hits the desert it gets a little bit silly with the Oliver Twist kids stuff.

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior May 20, 2024
    Show notes

I'm just here for the "gazzuline" and the incredible podcast covering one of the most unique and interesting films to come out of the '80s. It stars a young Mel Gibson, who brings immediate on-screen presence and charisma as a gritty anti-hero mostly looking out for himself. George Miller delivers a masterclass in chase cinema, tearing across the raw Australian outback with visceral energy, practical stunt work, and a distinct post-apocalyptic vision that still feels electric today.

    Creepshow (Watch) May 13, 2024
    Show notes

Creepshow is a horror-comedy anthology from director George A. Romero and writer Stephen King. A wild, affectionate tribute to the gruesome EC Comics of the 1950s, and we sit down to watch it, and talk through the whole movie.

    Civil War Apr 22, 2024
    Show notes

Only the mid-wits are mad that this film didn't take a side in the culture war, but instead highlighted the horror that happens when we stop talking to each other. It's a grim and visceral look at a world that is shockingly close to our own.

We don't want to drop a bucket of pig's blood on you, but we will all laugh at you if you do not listen to this episode. It's great, but don't take our word for it - have a listen as we go deep into the bullied-at-home and bullied-at-school, Carrie, as she plys her mind powers against those that hurt her.

In a film featuring Russel Crowe and Christian Bale it's hard to stand out, but Ben Foster is incredible as Charlie Prince in this classic and brilliant re-make of an excellent western.
