    Longhorn Republic: January 4, 2022 - Alamo Bowl Recap Jan 04, 2023
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns closed out the year on a disappointing note, falling to the Washington Huskies in the Alamo Bowl. It was clear in the game that Texas missed the presence of Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson, struggling to find success in the limited attempts on the ground with Keilan Robinson and Roschon Johnson. That left the game on the arm of Quinn Ewers, who answered the call well and finished with the third-best bowl performance by a quarterback in school history, in spite of his early struggles in the game. Defensively, Texas put up yet another stellar performance against a top-tier offense, holding the No. 2 passing attack in the country to its season low and future Heisman candidate Michael Penix to his second-worst outing of the year. So what lessons did we learn about what Texas might look like in 2023 and how do we feel heading into the second full offseason of Steve Sarkisian's tenure at Texas? Longhorn Republic: December 27, 2022 - Alamo Bowl Preview Dec 27, 2022
    Show notes

After missing bowl season a year ago, the Texas Longhorns take the field one more time this year, squaring off against No. 12 Washington Huskies in the 2022 edition of the Alamo Bowl. Texas will be without three key pieces of the equation, as Bijan Robinson, Roschon Johnson, and DeMarvion Overshown all have declared that they will be skipping the game as they prepare for the 2023 NFL Draft. That means fans will likely get a glimpse at some of next year's key contributors will look like as they face off against Michael Penix and the high-powered Huskies offense. To help us preview the Huskies, we reached out to Gabey Lucas (@Gabeynotgabby) of the UW Dawg Pound to provide insight. We discuss how to slow down the Huskies offense and what UW fans think of Steve Sarkisian and Pete Kwiatkowski. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Longhorn Republic: December 22, 2022 - Volleyball Natty and NSD Dec 22, 2022
    Show notes

It was a big week for the Texas Longhorns, both for players currently competing and players potentially competing in the future. It started on the volleyball court where Jerritt Elliott ended the Longhorns' 10-year championship drought, bringing home the NCAA title for the first time since the 2012 season. All-time great Logan Eggleston capped off her incredible college career not only with a national player of the year award but being named the tournament's most outstanding player as she led Texas to a national championship in her final game in Burnt Orange. On the gridiron, Texas welcomed the next generation of athletes to campus as 22 players signed their National Letters of Intent with the Longhorns. The class is highlighted by No. 1 overall player Arch Manning, as well as linebacker Anthony HIll and running back Cedric Baxter, both the top players at their position. Longhorn Republic: December 14, 2022 - Basketball News and Recruiting Recap Dec 14, 2022
    Show notes

After head coach Chris Beard was suspended Monday following his arrest, the Texas Longhorns still had a basketball game to play, taking on the Rice Owls at home as the non-conference schedule winds to a close. In spite of, or potentially because of, the distractions, the Longhorns managed to edge out a narrow win in overtime and keep their home record spotless in non-conference play. With a week left before football's early signing period, we also welcome on friend of the show Mike Roach of Horns247 in order to help us discuss some of the high-priority targets still on the board for Texas, including five-star linebacker Anthony Hill, who Texas hopes to bring on campus this weekend for a visit. Can the Longhorns close the deal with the top defender in the state and add yet another five-star talent to the class? Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. The No. 2 Texas Longhorns were one of the hottest teams in the country, coming off of a big win over No. 7 Creighton as they left the Lone Star State for the first time to participate in the Jimmy V Classic. However, the night wouldn't turn out the way Chris Beard planned, as Texas dropped a 10-point second-half lead and fell to No. 17 Illinois. Where did it go wrong for Texas in the second half and what can Texas do to shore things up before conference play? We also dive in on the latest transfer portal entries for the football team, what's next for No. 1 Texas volleyball, record-setting outings both in the pool and on the track, pick our NFL Longhorns of the week, and dive in on what we've been streaming. Longhorn Republic: December 1, 2022 - Postseason Awards Dec 01, 2022

The Big 12 awards came out and fans of the Texas Longhorns felt like some of their favorite players were snubbed by the voters, so we took it into our own hands. As we close out the regular season, we wanted to take a moment and reflect on the players that we felt should be recognized. From offensive and defensive Most Valuable Players, Most-Improved Player, and several custom awards for players we felt deserved special recognition. Longhorn Republic: November 29, 2022 - Baylor Recap Nov 29, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns nearly fumbled away the game on Saturday, but leaned into their best players and came away with a statement victory over the Baylor Bears to close the regular season and send the seniors off in style. It was fitting that in what is likely the final game at DKR for both Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson, they carried the ball on the final 24 plays of the game, scoring the touchdowns to put the game away in convincing fashion. In the same vein, once again the Texas run defense was stout, giving up just 101 yards to a Bears team that emphasizes the run, forcing the ball into the quarterback's hands. The win secured Texas a three-game improvement over last year, hopefully setting the trajectory of the program for years to come. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Longhorn Republic: November 24, 2022 - Baylor Preview Nov 24, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns return to Austin for the regular season finale, a pivotal matchup against the Baylor Bears on Black Friday. In spite of frustrations this year, Texas has an opportunity to both end the season on a high note and keep their glimmer of hope for an appearance in Arlington alive. To do that, they will need to get their final revenge win of the year against the Bears, a team coming off of a heart-breaker loss to rival TCU. Will Dave Aranda's squad be able to rebound or will they come in flat? Coming off of a dominant performance riding the run defense and Bijan Robinson, Texas could use a repeat performance in potentially inclement weather on Saturday. Can they replicate that performance or will they need more from other sources to get the job done? Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Longhorn Republic: November 22, 2022 - Kansas Recap Nov 22, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns went to Lawrence and grabbed another road win, running all over the Kansas Jayhawks and notching their seventh win of the season. Running back Bijan Robinson put up a career performance and continued his climb up the Longhorns' record books, pacing Texas with his four-touchdown performance. It was one of the most dominant rushing performances in recent memory as the Longhorns found the footing they were missing a week ago. On the defensive side of the ball, Texas had an answer for every wrinkle that the Jayhawks threw their way, shutting down an often potent ground game with relative ease. The performance in Lawrence highlights just how for the Texas rush defense has come year-over-year, likely finishing several hundred yards shy of their single-season total from 2021. Longhorn Republic: November 17, 2022 - Kansas Preview Nov 17, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns have two more games to prove the trajectory of the program is in the right direction and it starts with a road trip to Lawrence to take on the Kansas Jayhawks. Kansas has lost four of the last five games after staring quarterback Jalon Daniels was sidelined with an injury, but the Jayhawks may have QB1 back in the fold for Saturday. The Texas defense had an all-time performance against TCU, but are they prepared for the shotgun, triple-option attack, regardless of who the quarterback is on Saturday? Offensively, the Longhorns have a ton to prove after essentially not showing up to the stadium against TCU in another must-win game. If Quinn Ewers and Bijan Robinson want to end the season on a high note, then they must be able to get back on track after lackluster performances in prime time.
