    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns had opportunities earlier in the season to better position themselves for the close of the year. Now they face a must-win situation if they want to claim a regular season conference title and the top seed in the Big 12 tournament. The WVU Mountaineers are one of the most talented teams in the conference and have switched up their pitching rotation in hopes to win one game this weekend and claim the conference crown.

Elsewhere, the tennis and golf teams make their run at national championships, while the track team brought home more hardware ahead of their run at the title.

    May 10, 2023 - Baseball Tops Kansas May 10, 2023
    Show notes

It was a relatively successful week for the Texas Longhorns on the diamond, taking the series from the Kansas Jayhawks and keeping themselves alive for a regular season conference title. Lebarron Johnson had a stellar start on Saturday, helping Texas right the ship after a disastrous season opener on Friday, earning himself Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for his efforts. Texas managed to hold off Kansas on Sunday and get a needed conference win with just one series left on the schedule.

The ladies went to Waco and suffered a season-closing sweep at the hands of the Baylor softball team, setting up a conference tournament opener against Texas Tech. Both the men's and the women's tennis teams advanced to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament, with hopes to take it back to Florida for a chance at the national championship.

    Show notes

This week's show features a special guest, Ryan Nanni of The Shutdown Fullcast, to discuss how and why the Texas Longhorns are viewed from a national perspective. We also dive in on what, if anything, the school and fans can do to shift that narrative, what Texas and Oklahoma need to do when they join the SEC, and who he would pick to represent the Florida Gators in a battle of Ministers of Culture.

We also unpack how we think the fits are for the Longhorns who found themselves drafted, baseball's chances at surging forward in the conference standings, the track team's incredible performance, and what we're watching and reading this week.

    April 19, 2023 - Orange-White Game Reaction Apr 19, 2023
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns put on a show for fans Saturday, capping off spring practice with the annual Orange-White game at Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium.

Unlike last year, Texas had the health and depth to field two full squads and a lot to show for their work during the spring session. Perhaps the biggest storylines of the game were the performances of Quinn Ewerrs, who was officially named the starter following the game, and the impressive arm of backup quarterback Maalik Murphy.

There are still questions on both sides of the ball, with players held out or given non-contact jerseys due to injury concerns. Still, overall the vibe following the game is positive for Texas and setting up lofty offseason expectations.

April 12, 2023 - Trying to Figure out the Baseball Team Apr 12, 2023
    Show notes

After struggling a week ago, the Texas Longhorns returned to their winning ways on both diamonds. The baseball team used some come-from-behind dramatics to take care of business against the Kansas State Wildcats, before splitting a midweek series against the Texas State Bobcats. The softball team took themselves to Ames and returned to Austin after sweeping the Iowa State Cyclones to get back in the win column in Big 12 play.

Outside of the diamond, the women's golf team managed to put together an impressive weekend and came away with a Big 12 Match Play Championship, while men's tennis came back from Waco with a win over a ranked Baylor Bears squad.

March 29, 2023 - Texas Goes Out Sad, but Has Its New Coach Mar 29, 2023
    Show notes

After reaching their first Elite Eight for the first time since 2008, the Texas Longhorns were in a prime position to reach their first Final Four since TJ Ford was on campus, but a late-game meltdown - aided by the officials - sent the Miami Hurricanes to the next round.

Following the suspension and eventual firing of Chris Beard, the Longhorns looked shaky for a few games but Rodney Terry managed to right the ship and keep the team running. After leading Texas to one of its best seasons in 15 years, Chris Del Conte and the Texas administration made the call to drop the interim tag and make Terry the full-time head coach of the Longhorns. What can we take from this year's results to help us understand how Terry can lead the squad in the future and what he can do immediately to keep the momentum going?

We also whip around the rest of campus and check in with all of the other teams on campus, including the baseball team's nation-leading win streak and softball's pending top-10 matchup.

Longhorn Republic: March 23, 2023- Xavier Preview Mar 23, 2023
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns have the opportunity to do what just five teams before them have been able to do, reach the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament. Standing in their way, are the Xavier Musketeers, who bring one of the more effective offenses left in the tournament. Xavier and head coach Sean Miller are coming off a close win in the opening round over Kennesaw State and a runaway victory over Pittsburgh, and are hoping to improve on the last year of Miller's last stint in Cincinnati with a trip to the Elite Eight. Miller leans heavily on a seven-man rotation weighted heavily toward the starters, with just five players boasting a double-digit scoring average for the year. Guard Souley Boum and forward Zach Freemantle lead the way for the Musketeers, averaging 16.5 and 15.2 points per game respectively, while Freemantle chips in 8.1 rebounds per game. How do the Longhorns stack up against the Musketeers and what will it take for Texas to come away with a win? Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Show notes

The Texas Longhorns took the court in both the men's and women's NCAA Tournaments, with the women hoping to repeat and improve on last year's success, while the men hoped to make a deeper run than they have in 15 years. While Rodney Terry and the men's team managed to knock off both their first two opponents, with a lopsided opening win over Colgate, before surviving a late-game push from the Penn State Nittany Lions to reach the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2008. On the ladies' side, Texas cruised in its opening-round win but ran into a buzz saw against Louisville ad could not get things going to advance to the Sweet 16. So what, if anything, do those two different outcomes mean for the teams in the immediate and long-term future for the teams. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook.
