August 10, 2023 - Linebackers Preview Aug 10, 2023

Show notes

We are coming closer to the season and we are on week two of our defensive previews, bringing us to the linebackers.

Jaylan Ford, preseason All-Big 12 defensive player of the year, leads the relatively unproven group that will need to mature fast in order to contribute. David Gbenda and Morice Blackwell have reps but have not reached the heights Texas needs, while elite freshman Anthony Hill has a clear path to development while finding ways to contribute.

August 8, 2023 - Baylor Bears Preview Aug 08, 2023

Show notes

We are rapidly approaching the Texas Longhorns' 2023 kickoff and have reached the first conference game of the year, the Baylor Bears.

Two years ago, Dave Aranda took the Bears to the conference championship, but struggled in year three and ended the year 6-7 with a conference loss. Baylor struggled defensively, while the offense had a mix of high highs and low lows. So which result is closer to the expectation for the Bears in 2023?

August 3, 2023 - Kansas Jayhawks Preview Aug 03, 2023

Show notes

We are rapidly approaching the season and so too are we approaching the end of our season previews, with the Kansas Jayhawks.

The folks in Lawrence return nearly every key player from an offense that put them into the national conversation before injuries hit the quarterback position. Conversely, they lose the three best players from a defense that struggled to get stops last year.

We welcome back to the show Andy Mitts to help us work through how the Jayhawks can build off of their best season in 15 years.

August 1, 2023 - Defensive Line Preview Aug 01, 2023

Show notes

We keep moving through the Texas Longhorns position-by-positon and we prepare for the 2023 football season. This week, we dive in on the defensive line, which needs to reload after a breakout year for some.

Losing Keondre Coburn and Moro Ojomo to the draft was a big hit, but returning T'Vondre Sweat to the fold gives Pete Kwiatkowski's unit a cornerstone to build a defense on. Who will join him in setting the tone for the defense?

July 27, 2023 - Offensive Line Preview Jul 27, 2023

Show notes

We pick back up our position-by-position preview series and dive in on the Texas Longhorns' offensive line for the 2023 campaign.

Texas returns one of the most talented groups in the conference, including a freshman all-conference tackle and a resurgent Christian Jones at the other bookend. Between the tackles still has some questions to ask and may end up being what determines the floor and the ceiling for the unit -- and the offense as a whole. What can Kyle Flood do with the unit and who will have a level up like Jones did a year ago?

July 25, 2023 - Oklahoma Sooners Preview Jul 25, 2023

Show notes

As we continue our march toward the season, we preview one of the biggest matchups on the Texas Longhorns' schedule annually -- the newly-renamed Red River Rivalry against the Oklahoma Sooners.

Coming off of their worst showing since the 90's, Brent Venables and Oklahoma need to rebound quickly as they enter the last year of their membership in the Big 12. Not only that, but some Sooner fans are already growing impatient with the struggles of 2022. To help us preview OU, we welcome back certified friend of the show @K_Mehrabian of the Bud, Barry, Bob, and Beer Podcast.

Show notes

We bring you our second Texas Longhorns schedule preview today, diving in on the Houston Cougars with the help of our friends over at the Scott & Holman Pawdcast.

Dana Holgorsen and his staff have to break in new players at the offensive skill positions, while also trying to uplevel a defense that struggled mightily a year ago. How can they juggle all of that work while also making the move to a new league?

July 18, 2023 - BYU Cougars Preview Jul 18, 2023

Show notes

We're back on schedule for our Texas Longhorns season preview as we dive in on our first new conference opponent, the BYU Cougars.

Long-time coach Kalani Sitake is in a tough position, replacing key skill players on offense while also completely retooling the defense after a disastrous run on that side of the ball a year ago. He needs to manage all of that while taking the Cougars into a season as a conference member for the first time in more than a decade.

We welcome Garrett McClintock of the Give 'em Hell Bringham podcast to help us preview the Cougars.

July 13, 2023 - Big 12 Media Days Jul 13, 2023

Show notes

The Texas Longhorns took the stage at Big 12 football media days for the final time, which means football is closer than we think.

Steve Sarkisian, Quinn Ewers, Xavier Worthy, and more discussed what they expect from the team and each other this year, why this year might be different, and what we should watch for in the season.

July 11, 2023 - Pass Catchers Preview Jul 11, 2023

Show notes

We continue our trek through the Texas Longhorns' position groups with a stop at the wide receivers and tight ends.

Much like the running backs, the Longhorns boast a TON of talent in the wide receiver room but the floor of the group is uncertain heading into the season. Xavier Worthy worthy is hoping to rebound from a mild sophomore slump, while Jordan Whittington hopes to have a contract year, and the additions of AD Mitchell and Isaiah Neyor hope to pay off for themselves and the Longhorns.

Not to mention JT Sanders and the talented group of incoming freshmen.
