    The Karen Kenney Show

Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Podcaster and Coach. She’s known for her dynamic storytelling, her sense of humor, her Boston accent and her no-bullshit approach to spirituality, self development, and transformational work.

She’s been a yoga teacher for 25 years, is a Certified Gateless Writing Instructor, and is also an author, speaker, retreat leader and the host of The Karen Kenney Show podcast.

A curious human being, life-long learner and an entrepreneur for 20+ years, KK brings a down-to-earth perspective to the spiritual principles and practical tools that create powerful shifts in people’s lives, relationships and businesses.

She works with people individually in her 1:1 program THE QUEST – and in her group program THE NEST.

Her approach brings together tools that coach both the conscious and unconscious mind. She combines Brain Science, Subconscious Reprogramming, Integrative Hypnosis, and Spiritual Mentorship to help clients regulate their nervous systems, remove blocks, rewrite stories, rewire beliefs, and reimagine what’s possible!

Karen wants her clients to have their own lived experience with spirituality and to not just “take her word for it”. She encourages them to discover and deepen their own personal connection to Self, Source and Spirit in tangible and actionable ways.

Her “Your Story To Your Glory” process helps people to shift their minds from an old thought system of fear to one of Love – using compassion, empirical evidence and humor, her work is effective, efficient, and wicked fun!

KK’s been a student of A Course in Miracles for 30 years, has been vegan for 20+ years, and believes that a little kindness can make a big difference.

Knowing The Real Story Nov 04, 2021
    Show notes

As humans, we’re natural born storytellers who are always trying to make sense of what we think is happening around us. The reality is that sometimes our “perception” has more to do with our ego mind projection, than what is actually playing out on the screen and in the scenes of our life.

Stephen Covey said it in an impactful way; “We think we see the world as it is, when in fact, we see the world as we are.”

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about taking the time to know the actual story before jumping into the judgement of others, on what “we think” they’re saying, doing or how they are acting.

There is power and deep level healing in knowing the real story. Just a little bit of information can go a long way and can sometimes lead to paradigm shifts that change everything; moving us from a place of fear and judgement into our true state; of love, kindness and compassion.

    Do I Dare? Oct 28, 2021
    Show notes

At some point in each of our lives, we are called to be brave. Brave enough perhaps to speak out and or stand up, against the injustices of the world. Other times our bravery is more personal and necessary to face our own internal giants.

Wherever the calling is found, if we know in our heart of hearts that something isn’t right; the question becomes, “What am I going to do about it?”

Will I speak up, will I act, will I answer the call, even if it’s generally unpopular, slightly risky or extremely painful?

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about finding the courage to take a stand, even if it's hard and being the one who, even if they’re afraid, is going to mention that elephant in the room.

I hope this episode gets you thinking and maybe even inspires you to pause and take a look within yourself, your family and your neighborhood - and ask, “Are there places, areas and situations that need support, change or a new voice?”

And then ask yourself… “Do I Dare?”

    KK's Key Takeaways:

    • Civil Rights Lawyer (3:51)

    • David & Goliath (9:36)

    • Do I Dare (14:25)

The Problem with I Know Oct 21, 2021
    Show notes

I often joke that as a teacher and mentor, if I had a $1 for everytime someone said to me, “I know,” then I’d be filthy rich. Now, sometimes this happens because the brain likes to conserve energy, so you’ll be listening to a podcast or reading a book and you’ll hear yourself think, “I already know that” or “I already read that”. So, if the analytical mind gets a whiff of something familiar, the ego doesn’t like to leave room for any new information.

It’s in these moments of “I know”, that we deprive ourselves of the opportunity to learn, to be curious, to make new discoveries and to expand. Not only that, we also sometimes rob ourselves of the possibility to change our mind.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about the difference between “I understand” and “I know” and the problems that can arise from the latter.

There's also something really beautiful and powerful about showing up in the innocence of “I don't know”. It’s the space where wisdom, insight, inspiration and expansion can happen.

The knowledge we gain in transforming ourselves, our life, our thoughts, and healing our suffering, starts with our willingness to learn. We must strip away what we think we already know and come with an empty mind, so that new information, going deeper and true healing becomes possible.

    KK's Key Takeaways:

    • Hard To Learn If You Are Already Full (4:23)

    • Learning Happens In Different Layers (9:22)

    Knowing What's Yours Oct 14, 2021
    Show notes

In today’s world, some people think that having a platform (like on social media) automatically means you must speak up about every situation that arises in the world.

Now sometimes, I do say something or share some sort of commentary because I feel called to speak, to take action, to show up and write something; or send money. At other times I don't, but it’s never because I don’t care.

The reality is, we’re not able to be everywhere, at all times, fighting every battle or speaking to every atrocity.

It’s for this reason that I choose to start each day by asking for Divine help.

The kind of guidance that comes from a Source way smarter than me. I ask for support to please direct me as to how to best use my mind, my mouth, my hands, my feet, my energy & resources, etc.

I ask for Inner Knowledge and the Awareness of Mind to know my Self and to know “what is mine” to say or do something about.

What I’ve discovered is that most people don't find it helpful, to get bum rushed by other humans who want you to hurry up and take a side or make a statement, or are trying to force you to have an opinion or an action plan about something that may or may not be yours to do something about.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about the societal pressure that many people face when it comes to the events, tragedies and abuse going on in the world. A pressure that no one else has the authority to assert or inflict and yet many feel it’s their place to seek, call others out and shame them.

There's a vibrational, energetic difference between being led from the inside versus being forced from the outside. I want you to be doing things out of Love and not out of fear. I want you to be doing and saying things because you feel called forth, rather than being pushed from behind by something outside of yourself.

I really want you to know yourself and to “Know What's Yours” and to leave the rest.

    KK's Key Takeaways:

    • Why Aren’t You Using Your Platform (3:56)

    • When I Say Values I mean (14:04)

    • I Can’t Do It For Everybody All The Time (22:58)

    • I Pick Where I Feel Called (27:21)

    Putting Down Your Pom-Poms Oct 07, 2021
    Show notes

When you’re on a plane, there's a reason why they say to put on your own oxygen mask first. Because we can’t help ourselves, never mind assisting anyone else, if we can’t breathe.

This analogy also translates perfectly into our everyday lives. If we’re constantly giving so much to others first, our life can get and feel way out of balance.

This can lead to us becoming sick, overwhelmed, resentful, or filled with a “secret” kind of rage that is just burning up inside. A rage that you probably won’t turn on other people because that's not what “nice people-pleasers” do, right? Ha!

Instead people often turn it on themselves and become martyrs, passive aggressive, or our body literally breaks down and we physically become ill. If we only ever cheerlead others and don’t stay in self-integrity with taking the time for ourselves, and keeping our word to ourselves, then we eventually pay the price one way or another.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about finding the balance between being a “Balcony Person” and putting our pom-poms down once in a while long enough to save some energy to cheerlead ourselves.

The reality is we can’t give to others from an empty well. We can’t ignore the call of our own creative hearts. Don’t be afraid to take a step back and do the things you love most for yourself.

This doesn’t make you selfish, this makes you self-integral, it means you value yourself and have self-love and it creates the space, so you can once again pick up your pom-poms and cheer others on.

    Spiritual Shotgun Sep 30, 2021
    Show notes

If you grew up with siblings, cousins or other kids around, then you’re probably no stranger to the term, “Shotgun!!” Which was a way for someone to try and call “dibs” on the front seat, passenger side of a vehicle.

As adults, I think it behooves us to ride what I call “Spiritual Shotgun” - because putting something smarter than our petty, little, suspicious & vicious ego mind in charge is a straight up good plan.

So often, if we don't realize that we’re connected to something greater, no matter what we call it, this world can seem like a wicked scary, really brutal place, filled with separation, a lot of sickness, and scarcity that’s all wrapped up in fear.

Which is why I love to help remind people like, “Hey, there's something greater than you. Something you can place trust in and lean into. Something that you’re a part of and an extension of. You’re not separate from it and you have the ability to tap into and connect with it whenever you want. You can ride ‘Spiritual Shotgun’ and co-create with it too. Isn't that such amazing news?”

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about how none of us have to have it all figured out on our own. We can go inward knowing that the answers we seek and all we really need, already exists within each of us.

    KK's Key Takeaways:

    • You’re Sitting In The Wrong Seat (7:41)

    • Spiritual Practices (11:41)

    • Riding Spiritual Shotgun (15:58)

Feathers or Velcro? Sep 23, 2021
    Show notes

There are going to be times in our life when people - out of their own suffering or out of their own lack of emotional intelligence or spiritual maturity - are not going to be able to handle whatever pressure that they're feeling inside.

So they're going to judge, they're going to attack, they're going to say and do things before thinking, things maybe that are cruel or unkind and not necessary, but they'll do it anyway.

Add to that, the wounded child in all of us, our place of unresolved trauma, is always looking for a trigger.

How we choose to think about and respond to those triggers makes all the difference in how we react or respond and ultimately feel in our day to day life.

Are we attaching and carrying around with us everything that is tossed our way? Or are we letting go and allowing the words, the judgements and fear that comes our way roll off us like water off a duck's back?

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re asking the question: Velcro or Feathers?

When life tosses difficult things your way, are you letting them stick to you, dragging them around and weighing you down? Or are you able to look at the person, situation or circumstance with spiritual discernment?

Are you internally wearing a suit of “Velcro or Feathers”?

    KK's Key Takeaways:

    • Cycle Of Belief (5:34)

    • Stop, Drop & Roll (11:52)

The Soul Whisperer - Georgina Durcan Sep 16, 2021
    Show notes

We all have access to spiritual and specific gifts; or what I call our ability to align to something beyond our physical body.

However, I do believe that some people are far more finely attuned to their gifts. Just like the ones that my guest, Intuitive Therapist and Soul Whisperer, Georgina Durcan unknowingly became aware of at a very early age, but not in the ways that you would think.

It wasn’t until later in life, after time spent in hospitals, sessions of electric shock therapy and heavy medications that Georgina made the conscious connection to God/Source that her soul was always searching for.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking with my dear friend Georgie and walking through her journey from a sensitive child who due to childhood trauma spent many of her younger years feeling alone, sad and misunderstood. To her hearing the voice of the Divine and rising up to take on the remarkable responsibility of using her intuitive gifts to first help herself and to know also help others and heal the world.

    • The Mind Doesn’t Choose It (7:50)

    • Take Brave & Courageous Steps (13:42)

    • Using Your Gifts (21:21)

Georgina Durcan is an Intuitive Therapist and is affectionately known as The ‘Soul Whisperer.’

She helps people move forward and transform their lives through 1:1 private healing and coaching, online group programs, self-study courses and live events. She is also the host of the Soul Side Up podcast.

Through her work, Georgina helps her clients to connect with that part of them that rarely gets listened to but holds all the answers. She points the way for her clients to come home to who they truly are.

She helps people to strengthen their connection with their internal guidance system that always leads to our highest good and greatest joy. She emphasizes that it’s really about you feeling that it’s you supporting you.

She has trained in many different mind, body and soul therapies, most recently with the Chopra Centre in the States.

For several years she was based in Vancouver, Canada and returned to Ireland in 2013. Her mission is to teach and guide people all around the world, to see the infinite possibilities that are there for them.

Normalizing Slow Growth with Meg Haines Sep 09, 2021
    Show notes

We live in a world of “Go, Go, Go” where busyness seems to set the pace and as a result inner and outer stillness is almost nonexistent.

For many, the thought of slowing down is wicked scary and it’s an idea and practice that people will avoid at all cost.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re hanging out with my friend, spiritual teacher, healer, and creative; Meg Haines to discuss the importance of slowing down, the power of feeling into the body and the “Intuitive Magic” that can be found in listening at a deeper level.

Human beings are not machines. We have nervous systems. We need to process things. We have both feelings and emotions and for these reasons instead of getting caught up in the worldly idea of having to hurry up and hustle all the time, we want to encourage the normalization of slow growth.

Slow growth allows us to feel things, move through them and heal them. It also creates a safe space to release our past stored emotional energies, explore where we have been, integrate the lessons and learning and see where it is that life is calling us to next.

    KK's Key Takeaways:

    • Normalize Slow Growth (6:01)

    • Come Back To The Now (11:07)

    • We’ve Been Sold To (21:01)

    • Put Ourselves In Little Bubbles (25:51)

    • Who Am I Supposed To Be (40:01)

    • If We Can’t Give Ourselves Grace (53:00)

    • Here To Be Truly Helpful (1:09:32)

    • Feeling Doesn’t Happen In The Mind (1:22:48)

Don't Let them Ruin God For You Sep 02, 2021
    Show notes

As a mentor and teacher who works with people that are spiritually curious, spiritually seeking or are doing deep personal & spiritual transformation work, I hear all kinds of comments like: “I’m a recovering Catholic” or “I haven’t prayed in 10 years” or “the word ‘God’ makes me cringe”, or “I don’t know what I even believe anymore”.

When we dive deeper into their experiences and stories behind those comments, one of the common things and themes that I discover is that for so many people “God” or a dogmatic approach to “God” by others, was either crammed down their throats as kids, or used as a threat, weapon or judgmental source against them.

In some cases, people were even taught that they didn’t “deserve” God’s Love or that they had to somehow figure out how to “earn” it or contort themselves to be “worthy” of it. What a racket! The adults, parents, priests/pastors, congregations, church, whoever/whatever if they’re not careful can totally ruin “God” for people.

Let me say this louder for the people in the back, God’s love is not something we have to earn. We’re born both deserving and worthy of it and yet somewhere along the way in our journey of life we can lose sight of that. Instead we start to believe the BS that we have to be “good enough” for God to even consider us lovable.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about how sometimes our connection to the Divine gets muddled as we move through life. Often this is because we take on what others are saying as the “gospel truth” - instead of cultivating, exploring and experiencing our own personal relationship with the God of our own understanding for ourselves.

The reality is God/Source/Divine/Love/Spirit/Whatever You Call It is here for all of us. Standing always at the ready for us to come home to the loving truth. The trick is to step through that open waiting door and not let others ruin the experience of that unconditional and unwavering Love for us.
