    The Karen Kenney Show

Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Writer, Podcaster and Coach. She’s known for her dynamic storytelling, her sense of humor, her Boston accent and her no-bullshit approach to spirituality, self development, and transformational work.

She’s been a yoga teacher for 25 years, is a Certified Gateless Writing Instructor, and is also an author, speaker, retreat leader and the host of The Karen Kenney Show podcast.

A curious human being, life-long learner and an entrepreneur for 20+ years, KK brings a down-to-earth perspective to the spiritual principles and practical tools that create powerful shifts in people’s lives, relationships and businesses.

She works with people individually in her 1:1 program THE QUEST – and in her group program THE NEST.

Her approach brings together tools that coach both the conscious and unconscious mind. She combines Brain Science, Subconscious Reprogramming, Integrative Hypnosis, and Spiritual Mentorship to help clients regulate their nervous systems, remove blocks, rewrite stories, rewire beliefs, and reimagine what’s possible!

Karen wants her clients to have their own lived experience with spirituality and to not just “take her word for it”. She encourages them to discover and deepen their own personal connection to Self, Source and Spirit in tangible and actionable ways.

Her “Your Story To Your Glory” process helps people to shift their minds from an old thought system of fear to one of Love – using compassion, empirical evidence and humor, her work is effective, efficient, and wicked fun!

KK’s been a student of A Course in Miracles for 30 years, has been vegan for 20+ years, and believes that a little kindness can make a big difference.

The Want & The Willingness Aug 26, 2021
    Show notes

In my work as a Spiritual Mentor and teacher, I talk with a lot of people who are wanting and hoping to have more happiness, inner peace, healing, and transformation.

One of the things I’ve discovered over the years is that sometimes the very same people who want something to change, are also unwilling to do what it takes to get the job done.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re taking a look at the difference between wanting something to happen, change or be different vs. the willingness to do what’s necessary to allow that thing to happen, change or be different.

Many times we look at the other side of the fence or finish line with a great desire to be there, but once we realize the work it actually takes to get there, we stop, don’t even start or totally back off & out.

It might be that we’re not yet ready to make those adjustments or it could be that we need some extra support to get there. That’s where groups or communities like “The Nest” come in handy.

When you’re trying to make big changes in yourself or your life, being in a supportive community of others to help cheer you on definitely helps.

Do you have a safe place to go where you feel supported? I hope you do, but if not, I invite you to check out my spiritual membership & community THE NEST. (Doors are opening for new members in September!)

    You Can't Force It Aug 19, 2021
    Show notes

Let’s just admit it, sometimes as silly humans we do try to force things and we try to fight reality; especially when we don't want “it” to be how it is.

As a coach, parent or an entrepreneur, really anybody who leads or guides people, whether it's a team of employees, a membership & community, or a mentor that has clients, the one thing we all know is we cannot make people do the work.

We can hold the vision for them, we can cheer them on and we can show them the way - but like the old saying goes, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.”

It’s the same with people; no matter how much you might want “it” for them you just can’t force it. They have to be willing to play a proactive role in their own growth, transformation and healing.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about loving and supporting people, but from a place of acceptance and understanding that we can’t force them to do even what might need to be done, for their own results, safety, health, happiness or peace.

Sometimes it’s super necessary to take a step back and let the people you love people live out the effects of their personal choices and the consequences of being themselves.

Things Aren’t Always What They Seem Aug 05, 2021
    Show notes

Historically humans have, so many times, put their “entertainment value” needs over the well being of both animals and humans. Sometimes, sadly to their detriment.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about slowing down and doing some critical thinking, research and discernment before we post or comment on something online, before we share it and spread it like wildfire.

There's a reason we have one mouth and two ears. This tells us we should be spending more time observing and listening to the world before we open our big yappers. Ha! How great would it be if we took a moment to pause, closed our mouths and used our ears to listen and learn about something before sharing? How much less pain and suffering would there be?

We’re also diving into the invitation to consider that before you start “following” somebody, giving them your time, your attention and your energy, and your hard earned cash, maybe do a little homework about - if who they present and say they are & is in alignment with how they really seem to be.

Nobody Asked You, Karen! Jul 29, 2021
    Show notes

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where someone has come to you with something that you think they’re needing input or advice on, only to find out the opposite?

Sometimes as friends/partners (but especially as coaches or mentors), we find ourselves sharing what we see as helpful thoughts, tips or solutions, when in reality not everyone wanted, needed or even asked for our help.

Often someone is only looking to share, vent or rant about a situation that has come up in their life. They really don’t need us to launch into “coaching mode” or to be told what to do about it.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about being more aware of our desire to “be helpful” or give unsolicited advice, where our input is actually desired and when we should just keep our big mouth shut - including on social media platforms.

This doesn’t mean that we can’t offer our POV if invited, but rather we should start from a place of inquiry and curiosity rather than one of the all-knowing “ego” authority.

Perhaps consider that the next time someone comes to you with their concerns don’t just jump in there all ablaze, “spilling your helpfulness” all over them. Ha!

Instead, remember the cheeky words, “Nobody asked you, Karen!” and come from a willingness to listen and learn. We were given two ears and only one mouth for a reason, so let’s use them accordingly.

    Tips, Tricks & Hacks Jul 22, 2021
    Show notes

Lately, I’ve been seeing and hearing a lot of people talking about tips, tricks, and hacks for all kinds of things.

Tricks have their place in the world of magic, but when it comes to people - whether it be personal or business - I choose transparency. What you see, is what you get. I don’t have any desire to trick my way to the top at the expense of others.

I also don’t want to hack my life, my spirituality or God! Anything we're trying to gain a depth of knowledge in, have a deeper understanding of, or connection to takes time.

If we want to create at a level of expertise, commit to excellence, and or develop mastery - that sh*t takes practice, experience, work and yup, I'll say it again --- time.

The idea of hacking to hurry, so we can shorten the journey to get there is not that appealing. There are some things that deserve our attention, devotion and us taking our damn time. I want to feel, know, learn and understand each step, as I make my way through this life of mine.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re taking a look at the concept of hacking and trickery. We’re also discussing why I don’t feel like it’s the right way to proceed when it comes to marketing and sharing our business.

We need to overcome the impatience and desire to rush, and settle in for the journey and process because that’s a huge part of the learning adventure. Operating from a place of integrity is so much more important than how quickly or easily we can get there.

Choosing To Be Confused Jul 15, 2021
    Show notes

There are times in our lives when we have to make both big and little decisions. Sometimes when faced with these choices, we find ourselves feeling unsure of our direction because of a communication misunderstanding or a lack of detailed information.

Other times though, we find ourselves choosing to remain in a state of confusion, allowing our minds to get muddled, all in an effort to avoid what it is that we know we must do or what our Inner Teacher is guiding us to do. It’s not that we don’t know what the right thing or best choice is, we’re just afraid to do it.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re taking a closer look at how we sometimes choose a state of confusion over making a decision or taking action. We get curious about why we choose to live out the stories we write about ourselves (and others) based on our fear of rejection, abandonment and judgement.

The reality is there’s no guarantee that things will always work out. Sometimes we just have to make the best decision we can with what we have and be willing to learn from our failures, extend compassion and forgiveness where warranted and keep moving forward.

If you find yourself “choosing to be confused”, just know that there are ways out of it and the clarity starts within you.

    Don’t Deny Your Darkness Jul 08, 2021
    Show notes

As humans, we have a multitude of parts contained all within one being. Think about it, “How many times have you said something like, "Well, one part of me wants to do this, but another part of me doesn’t”.

And not all of our “parts” are on the super sunny side. But because we fear getting judged, abandoned or rejected by others, we don’t want people to see our “dark” side or what we fear will make us look like a “bad person” or seem unlovable.

Sometimes, these efforts to deny our “darkness” have us turning into people pleasers who end up contorting ourselves into whoever or whatever it is we think others want. We abandon parts of ourselves in order to try and “fit in”.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about accepting and acknowledging that we all are made up of both innately good parts and some ego personality parts that could maybe use a little work. Ha!

In order to heal, it helps to not deny those parts of ourselves that could probably use a little more compassion and understanding. It’s time to welcome all parts of us to the party and learn to love ourselves as a whole.

The Extraordinary In The Ordinary Jul 01, 2021
    Show notes

There's an old proverb that says “familiarity breeds contempt”. Meaning that if we’re too close to or have extensive knowledge of someone, it can sometimes lead to a loss of respect for them, or we become careless around them or we lose the ability to see their brilliance.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re taking a look at how often the people in our lives (including ourselves), can lose their “shine” in our eyes simply because we’ve been around them a lot, have history or interact in the day-to-day.

In a world of hype and competitiveness and a brain that has a big ol’ negativity bias, we need to train our minds to stay on the lookout for the “good, beautiful and holy” and to not lose sight of the extraordinary in the ordinary.

Do not take for granted or lose sight of the brilliance around you in your friends, family, furry kids and in your own extraordinary-ness either. Just because the “knuckleheads” around you, might not be able to see it, acknowledge it or reflect it back to you, doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

Be willing and committed to stepping out of the negative bias to cheerlead the ones you love; including yourself!

Can You Use It In A Sentence? Jun 24, 2021
    Show notes

People will sometimes say that they know what someone’s been talking about without really having any true understanding. They might have copied down the words or memorized the information, but they have no real intimacy with or true knowledge of things yet.

It’s not enough to just be able to parrot back what’s been said - but as the spelling bee kids ask, “Can you use it in a sentence?” Do you really know through first-hand experience the context, meaning or application of a thing or do we have just enough information to be dangerous?

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about digging in deeper, asking more questions and getting more experience before we try to lead others. This is necessary if we want to apply things in an effective way that won’t mislead or harm the people we’re trying to help.

It’s important to show up in integrity rather than just trying to “look” or “appear” to others a particular way. Don’t be afraid to be a learner or student and say “I don’t know”.

Go ahead and be the one in the room who stands up and says, “This doesn’t make sense, could you please elaborate a little more?” I’d bet that your bravery will go a long way to helping others who are still too afraid to put up their hand and admit that they don’t have it all figured out.

We don’t need to be in such a rush that we just end up regurgitating things, it’s important to spend some time studying and practicing so you’ll have your own wisdom to share too.
