191: Mothering Creativity with Candice L. Davis, Whitney McNeill, Allison Lane, Jen Lehner, Patty Lennon, Shaun Roney, and Miriam Schulman May 03, 2022
    Show notes

In honor of Mother's Day and in the spirit of embracing motherhood (however you experience it), this year I'm bringing together 6 incredible women to share how motherhood has influenced their creativity, tips they have for encouraging creativity in their own kids, and ways to balance your creative career with motherhood.

Jen Lehner, founder of Front Row CEO and Front Row VIP Masterclass shares her lessons on being more present with her kids. Working from home, though physically present, can still create distance and disconnect. Her advice is to build a supportive team that creates the space you need to enjoy a work life balance. Join Jen's waitlist for Front Row CEO

Allison Lane is an editor and marketing strategist that will get your book published and marketed with her company, Allison Lane Literary. Her thoughts around influencing creativity in your children are about encouraging your kids. She has found success balancing motherhood with 1-2 hour time chunks.

Candace L Davis is helping entrepreneurs navigate the publishing process and so much more in her business and with her podcast, Nothing But The Words. Candace's lesson from motherhood that encourages creative thoughts is boredom. Being bored as a child and allowing her children to be bored became the best way to encourage creativity.

"Making space for my children's creativity has simply meant making space for my kids' souls" - Patty Lennon

Patty Lennon, from the Space for Magic Podcast, beautifully shares that, "creativity at its best is something we feel as much as something we do." Having children with completely different creative expressions, Patty reminds us of why honoring children's unique creativity and teaching them to admire the creative process is necessary for future artists.

Whitney McNeill, the founder of the Messenger of Spirit, shares how to connect with your spirit guides and connect with your intuition. She reminds us to be mindful of our energy, and that perfectionism isn't realistic just because that's what society dictates to women and mothers. Whitney is a beautiful reminder to give yourself grace.

Shaun Roney, ADHD coach and founder of Revealed Path Life Coaching expresses why modeled behaviors and skills are the best for your children. Shaun's leading advice is to get your family involved in your creative businesses and honor the components needed to allow more creativity.

"The thing about creativity is it has to have freedom to be whatever it's going to be. Someone can't force you into being creative. They can't teach you how to be creative. They have to allow creativity to happen." -Shaun Roney

190: Seasons of Creativity with Chanti Zak and Miriam Schulman Apr 26, 2022
    Show notes

As frustrating as it may be, you cannot be in a creative state of flow 365 days a year. When you identify as a creative, that can feel like a heartbreak and a bit of an identity crisis, and yet it's a perfectly normal part of life.

You won't always feel like you're in perfect balance, and there are days that we all feel hopeless and think, I've lost my creativity for good (being dramatic time to time is totally fine). Understanding that your personal life will go through seasons, your creativity will go through seasons, and your business will also go through seasons will allow you to manage yourself in these seasons much better.

Chanti Zak is a growth coach and consultant, and the founder of the Empathy Marketing Ecosystem & Agency. She joins me to simplify the most common seasons we experience, explains what you can expect in these seasons, and shares how you can better manage yourself and your success as a creative through all of your seasons.

Chanti's framework of seasons in business for creative endeavors:

    • Fallow season of hopelessness and the gifts it bears
    • Fertile season of new beginnings and perspectives that bring energy and inspiration
    • Flourish season to reap the rewards of the fallow and fertile seasons

A much-needed bonus you don't want to miss in this episode are tips that Chanti and I both share for how to receive abundance. It's something many of us struggle with and these are tips you can implement right away!

"Whatever season you are in, you're in the right place, roll with it and know that change is the only constant."

188: How to Stand Out and Get Your Art Noticed with Jennifer Kem and Miriam Schulman Apr 12, 2022
    Show notes

Building your art business gets stressful real fast when it takes you beyond the comfort of creating art. Still, marketing, sales, and engagement are a necessity for any person building a business.

Why should you know your brand archetype as an artist? You have your own style and preferred medium of art, so is branding and archetypes really important? After all, you're possibly running ads, you're staying on top of social media posts, and you have your own art collections for sale and available for purchase. Maybe you've even set up a few funnels to grow your business.

Jennifer Kem is the creator of Master Brand. While she agrees that marketing is part of branding, she also distinguishes why branding is more about your messaging.

"The brand is your art, and the rest is science. Marketing is a science, sales is a science, but your brand is the soul of how you're presenting yourself in the world."

    -Jennifer Kem

Branding for Artists and Creatives 101:

    • What branding is and isn't
    • How artists should think about branding
    • What is an archetype
    • What are brand archetypes
    • Dominant, intrinsic, intuitive, and creator archetypes you should know

184: Overcome Your Fear of Visibility and Public Speaking with Lex Vernon and Miriam Schulman Mar 15, 2022
    Show notes

It's been estimated that over 75% of the population experiences anxiety around public speaking. A fear of looking foolish, forgetting your words, or lack of experience are just a few of the reasons why the fear of speaking, or glossophobia, is a crowd favorite.

Alexia Vernon, Founder and President of Step into Your Moxie, dubbed the Moxie Maven by President Obama's White House, shares expert tactics to help you crush it the next time you are asked to speak, whether it's live or in a virtual setting.

"The greatest gift we can give ourselves is to slow down"

    -Alexia Vernon

Key Insights and Tactics Every Artist Needs for Public Speaking:

    • How Alexia combines theater, speaking, and coaching
    • The most important question you'll ever ask yourself
    • Courageous tips to slow down and deliver your message with intention
    • The key to delivering clear calls to action that move people
    • How you can Step into Your Moxie

Alexia's Tip for Moving People Towards Awareness:

    1. Get your audience to identify with the outcome you help them visualize
    2. Communicate your offer so they know it's needed to achieve their outcome

Alexia describes what it means to Step into Your Moxie as, "the process of developing the mindset and the skill set to be able to walk into any room, into any conversation, onto any live or virtual stage and, unapologetically, speak up for yourself for the ideas and issues that matter most to you, and to call people to take action."

You can Step into Your Moxie at Alexia's Live Event coming in April 2022, or you can check out her book, Step Into Your Moxie on Amazon.

183: What's Wrong with Your Instagram with Miriam Schulman Mar 08, 2022
    Show notes

This is part of the continuing "what's wrong with" series. I want to make sure that when you engage using Instagram, that it's effective for you. I'm sharing 5 things I see people doing that just don't work. Hear what they are, along with the steps for your Instagram makeover. What works on social platforms changes and this is a great time to check your account and make sure you are up to date with the most current and effective practices.

5 Things that are wrong with your Instagram account:

    • No link in bio. Your bio is the most important part of your Instagram account since it's the only place where you can have a live link. Use it well! Hear the 3 best ways to make this work for you.
    • Your account is private. When someone goes to check out your Instagram page and it's private, you are creating a barrier that doesn't have to be there.
    • Gaming the system. There are a few things that people do on Instagram to try and "game" the system. Buying followers, following/unfollowing, or using an automated system. Some of this violates terms and conditions and you may even risk account shutdown.
    • User pods. This is one of those things that sounds like a good idea, but won't give you the results you want. It's not a good use of your time, and it won't bring the engagement that will help you grow your reach.
    • Your avatar is not a picture of you. People want to engage with a real person, not a brand. Show up as a living, breathing human.

Improve your Instagram account and watch engagement and followers increase. Make your posts and your investment of time there worthwhile.
