Today we are joined by one of our long time listeners of the show, Gilbert Tucker. Gilbert is a firefighter in a rural area outside of Denver and we asked him to come on the show and share a couple of stories where he and some of his co-workers nearly walked into a catastrophic event.

    #129 You Never Know Jul 07, 2021
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Today we are talking about a concept Brian likes to call “you never know,” which a simple way to look at someone’s behavior and NOT draw an unreasonable conclusion about what their intent is or the type of person that they are.

This concept applies to both sides of the coin as we say on the show, meaning you don’t know whether the person you accidentally spilled coffee on is already full of rage and about to have a break with reality and you also don’t know that paying someone a small compliment might be the one thing that got them through a terrible day!

We get into a number of areas on the show and bring up a few recent cases as examples and Brian gives his best explanation of the “you never know” concept by referencing the 1995 classic Adam Sandler movie “Billy Madison.”

#128 Body Language; Myths and Realities Jun 30, 2021
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Today we are talking about the myths and realities of body language.

Although body language, or “Kinesics” as we call it, is something that we teach in our courses it is not something that should be used on its own. Meaning, just like any other human behavior observation, it all depends on the context!

In the episode we talk about some of the “parlor tricks” that we see people teaching and why you should stay away from those and we also give examples of what you can and cannot prove based on the body language you’re observing.

We also give you a better lexicon to describe some basic body language signals and why you should stay away from words like pre-attack indicators and some of the other examples we give.

#125: Thinking; with Dr. Richard Nisbett Jun 09, 2021
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Today we are joined by social psychologist Dr. Richard Nisbett to discuss his latest book called “Thinking: A Memoir.” Dr Nisbett has spent his career researching things like how people reason, how people should reason, why errors in reasoning occur, how much you can improve reasoning, what kinds of problems are best solved by the conscious mind and what kinds by the unconscious mind.

We get into a number of different areas during the episode including Eastern vs Western thinking, Jukebox Theory, and one of the most prevalent issues I see happen on social media today which is something called fundamental attribution error.

AT the end of the show, Greg and I stayed on to record our thoughts on the interview. You can listen to a short clip of the conversation and if you enjoyed it you can head over to the Left Of Greg Patreon page to hear the rest.

#124: The Deep Rig with Patrick Byrne Jun 02, 2021
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Today we are joined by one of the most interesting people we have ever had on the show, Patrick Byrne. Patrick is a billionaire former CEO of Overstock.com, he’s a philosopher, and he’s also the author of the book “The Deep Rig” which tells the story of his ongoing investigation into the 2020 Presidential election voting irregularities.

A few months ago we spent some time with Patrick and we found him to be an intelligent, genuine person who was fun to talk to. Naturally, we wanted to have him on the podcast and so now, several months later, Patrick agreed to come on the show and discuss the book he just wrote.

We get into a lot of areas during the episode including Patricks meeting with Donald Trump in the White House, Election rigging, his relationship with Maria Butina, free speech, public discourse and he even reveals to us a new “bombshell” piece of evidence regarding election results in Arizona that hasn’t been previously released.

At the end of the show, we stayed on to record our thoughts on the interview. You can listen to a short clip of the conversation and if you enjoyed it you can head over to the Left Of Greg Patreon page to hear the rest: PATREON
