#141: Left of the NEXT bang! Oct 06, 2021
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Today, Greg and Brian are explaining the concept of “Left of the NEXT bang.” Meaning, how do you predict what someone is likely going to do next, even in the midst of a chaotic, rapidly unfolding situation? In the episode they use the recent shooting at a Philadelphia hospital as an example of how to determine someone’s likely intent based only on what they’ve done so far; and then they explain HOW to rapidly operationalize that information to create a more desirable outcome.

    #140: "Handcuff Johnny" Sep 29, 2021
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Today we are talking about a recent case where a man who called himself “Handcuff Johnny” built and emplaced several pipe bombs at different locations throughout the state of Michigan. We are using this case as an example of how to do two things:
1.) Identify and understand the organization and sophistication level of ANY person, and
2.) How to determine someone’s likely intent based on their specific behavior.

    #139: F@#$ That Guy! Sep 22, 2021
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Today we are talking about some situations that have gone catastrophically wrong all because someone took the “F That Guy” approach. Meaning, rather than taking a second and exercising a little patience to determine the best course of action, they chose to ignore the information that was available and unnecessarily escalated the situation.

In the episode we discuss things like heuristics, stereotypes, cognition biases, entitlement, and how we can learn to “trade time” in order to make better decisions.

    #137: Whose Liable? Sep 08, 2021
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Today we are talking about liability, responsibility, and of course, training! We start the conversation with a story of a police officer who sued his own agency, and several other parties, in an attempt to hold them liable for the outcome of a catastrophic and nearly deadly situation.

We use this case as a starting point for a larger discussion on how litigation is the only way that policies change and sometimes not for the better. Liability and responsibility go hand in hand in many of these cases and when it comes to lawsuits, it’s important to try and determine the persons Intent, rather than their motive.

#136: "Choices" with Kevin Nahai Sep 01, 2021
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

We recently sat down with Kevin Nahai to talk about human behavior in the context of the choices we make. Kevin is a speaker, writer, and mentor to young men and women across the globe on a number of emotional and psychological issues.

We were originally introduced to Kevin by our mutual friend Reena Watts after we went on her podcast called Better Call Daddy. The reason that Reena linked us with Kevin was because we had similar reactions to a guest she had on her show who was a real-life 40 year old virgin.

After an initial conversation with Kevin, we immediately wanted to have him on the show to talk about human behavior from his unique perspective as a coach, mentor, and as a person who has struggled to overcome challenges to create a better life for himself and others.

Today we are discussing a case from Illinois where a young man accidentally beat his mother to death with a baseball bat, thinking that she was an intruder. There were a lot of contributing factors to this case that we discuss in the episode and we also spend a great deal of time talking about the fact that he is not serving any jail time for this crime. #133: How can I make this about me? Aug 11, 2021
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Today, Greg and I are taking two seemingly unrelated stories and explaining how the mental process that the individuals chose to take were nearly identical, but with two very different decisions that led to two very different outcomes.

We compared a recent shooting in Texas where a man killed his ex-wife, her boyfriend and then himself to the olympic gymnast Simone Biles who chose not to compete in an event due to mental health related issues.

We bring up a number of topics during the discussion including things like “ghosting,” disruption vs interruption, and how we often choose to make things about ourselves, rather than for the greater good.

Today, Greg and Brian are discussing the concept of “you knew or should have known” in the context of several recent high profile news stories where employees quit their jobs in protest. In the episode they talk about how all people have a natural tendency to want our say rather than our way and how that plays into the concept of entitlement versus enlightenment.
