    #112: Symbolism: You're Reading It Wrong Feb 23, 2021
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

In today’s episode we are talking about the meaning behind things like tattoos, graffiti, messaged clothing, and different historical symbols.
The biggest problem that we see when it comes to understanding things like symbolism and iconography is that people often jump to unreasonable conclusions when attempting to find the meaning behind them. This happens because we often remove the context behind a symbol or message or we fail to understand the persons intent behind using that symbol or message.

On today’s episode we are talking about a few every day examples of how sometimes we have a tendency to lack critical thinking ability even for some common sense situations. We also discuss how our own experiences with “close calls” can actually in a sense make us a little dumber.

In today’s episode, we are talking about two recent cases that demonstrate how our environment influences our behavior and how we can use that information to conduct predictive analysis.
The first case is from Tennessee where a “prank robbery” led to the death of the wannabe prankster and the second case involves the recent death of two FBI agents who were killed in the line of duty. Our hope is that we can learn from this tragedy in order to prevent it from happening again.

    #107: Training; You're Doing It Wrong Jan 19, 2021
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

On today’s episode we are addressing some of the major issues we see with current police training and how it often lacks the critical elements that are necessary to mitigate a catastrophic event.

Although we reiterate it several times throughout the episode, we want to make it very clear that we are not AGAINST the type of training that we reference in the episode, we are merely saying that it doesn’t help prevent the situations that we continue to see every day.

"At bang" training has its place but if all you’re doing is training muscle memory then you’re not engaging in critical thinking.

#106: Year 2 of the Pandemic with Dr. Peter Bryant-Greenwood Jan 12, 2021

In today’s episode Greg and I are joined by our good friend Dr. Peter Bryant Greenwood.
Dr. Greenwood is a pathologist who has decades of clinical and biomedical research and development experience in multiple settings, including academia, biotechnology, startups and clinical practice.

We met Dr Greenwood several months ago when we were involved in some of the Pandemic recovery efforts in the Occupational Health industry and we’ve wanted to have him on the show ever since. What I really appreciate about Dr. Greenwood is his ability to explain very complex topics in a manner that even I can understand.

Although today’s conversation is centered around what the 2nd year of a pandemic looks like and how it will affect us at the personal, corporate, and societal level, we get into a number of areas including how COVID is going to be a major catalyst for change not just for healthcare as a whole but also for our own personal resilience.

Mike is an Information Scientist who has extensive experience in the U.S. Government as well as the private sector in the area of Information Awareness Services. If you would like to learn more about Mike, check out the Left Of Greg Episode number 90 called “Greg and Brian have really smart friends.”

Today we dissect the attack in Nashville and pull out some of the lessons learned in order to better understand how we can prevent something like this from happening again. We also get into a lengthy discussion on how these issues can be addressed at the Tactical, Operational, and Strategic levels.

Our conversation got into a number of areas including our nation's capacity versus it’s capability, how ideology often gets in the way of common-sense solutions, and our tendency to constantly chase different Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures rather than trying to develop proactive measures.

#104: What Is Your Intent? Dec 29, 2020
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

In today’s episode, we are talking about the importance of understanding a person's intent, rather than focusing on their ideology or motive.

Although this is something we typically talk about when it comes to understanding criminals, terrorists, and insurgents, they often use the same method to help me have a better understanding of social media posts and a better understanding of HOW people use the different social media platforms.

We get into a number of subjects including the psychological, physiological, and social factors involved in some recent high profile police shootings and we explain the concept of “you knew or should have known” which has to do with establishing responsibility for your actions.

And speaking of responsibility, we pose this question to all of you:
    Did you EARN your tweet?
Meaning, are you here to add value because you have something constructive to say, or are you just adding to the noise?

Just a little something to think about when scrolling through your Instagram feed!

In today’s episode, Greg and Brian are talking about Criminal recidivism and your New Years Resolutions.
Although these are two seemingly unrelated topics, they actually have a lot more in common than you think! There are a lot of contributing factors to the issue of criminal recidivism so Greg and Brian stick to what they know best, which is the behavior that surrounds, or is associated with criminal activity.

Greg and Brian touch on a number of topics in the episode including the significance of the environment you live in, choosing used gym equipment over new equipment, and they discuss what Greg calls “Boyd’s OODA loop for bad guys.”
