Peter interviews Christina Hoag, author of "Girl on the brink".
Girl on the brink is an engrossing, yet educational, novel about a teen romance going horribly wrong. It's a must read for anyone with children and then hand it over for them to read.
Christina also talks about her own experience as someone who was in, and got out of, an abusive relationship.
We talk about red flags; how easy it is to miss, or misinterpret, them.
Why it's a good idea to teach girls about this sort of thing at a younger age, when they start their dating lives.
And why it's important to remove the stigma surrounding domestic violence by talking about it.
An INSANE OFFER for all UK based listeners!
    Christina's website is https://ChristinaHoag.com

Christina has free audiobook review copies of her Girl on Brink. If anyone would like one, sign up for her (infrequent!) newsletter on her website and sheโ€™ll email you a promo code redeemable on Audible UK. All thatโ€™s required is to have an Audible account, free to create.

Pelvic Girdle Pain Jul 25, 2021
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Peter talks pelvic girdle pain this week. It's something a LOT of women suffer from post-partum and it's often just lived with rather than resolved.
This is often because women are not told what to look out for and therefore report any issues quite late on. Getting to your doctor, to be referred to a pelvic floor physio, is essential and doing this as soon as possible will be a real help and make resolving, or at least living with, PGP a lot easier.
We're talking the causes and the solutions in an effort to get to the bottom of Pelvic Girdle Pain and help you get some help.
"In the News this Week" 2 studies. Good news, bad news. Yin and Yang, if you will.
The first shows that extreme obesity lowers life expectancy by 14 (!!) years...or does it? and the second that shows that high-levels of Omega 3s can INCREASE life expectancy by 5! And that second one really does, so go eat your oily fish..you rascal!

Does diastasis get worse in the second pregnancy? Jul 18, 2021
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

"I never had diastasis recti after my first pregnancy but my second was really bad"
    Does this sound familiar?
Peter talks about why many women feel that their diastasis recti was significantly worse during/after their second pregnancy and why it was disastrous after their 4th.
This seems to be down to a fundamental misunderstanding about what diastasis recti actually is and how the body deals with it.
Of course, the solution is simple so Peter will discuss that AND will again make a plea for this sort of thing to be discussed in ante-natal classes.
"In the News this Week" It's all about the National Food strategy report that came out. It's free to access and the download is FREE from the NFS website.

An episode where I just spend time answering your questions again.
You have been very kind and emailed in, sent DMs and all that sort of fun stuff so I have a chance to answer them all.
As always email Peter@healthypostnatalbody.com if you have any questions you'd like answered.
We're covering the following questions this week.
How often should I train each week?
How do I get enough protein in? Egg whites vs whole eggs and supplements.
WTF is your problem with body positivity? This is an interesting question as I don't have a problem with it ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ but this person is very upset with me.
How do I get rid of my post-partum pelvic tilt?
My Dr said my Diastasis won't heal without surgery as it's too bad. I can't have the surgery until I am done having kids though. Will exercise do any good at all?

Peter talks about supplements (Vit D, protein powders, Quercetin etc. etc. Should you take them or are they useless?
    For those of you who like to read;
This is an interesting opinion piece about Vit D whereas Peter has written about protein supplementation before and you can find that here.
He also talks about "How to find the time to exercise" when it comes to rehab exercise.
And, finally, briefly talks about why thinking that a 4-week program can get better results than a well-designed 12 week program is nothing short of delusional.

Diastasis in men and how to heal dr if wheelchair bound Jun 06, 2021

In an episode Jess suggested calling "The minority report" (j/k); Peter talks about diastasis recti in men, the causes and solutions. He has the example of a ballet dancer that emailed him a few years ago that he worked with.
And how to fix diastasis recti when you're in a wheelchair. Most, if not all, programs dealing with diastasis and post-partum issues tend to be focussed on able-bodied people. HPNB is also guilty of this TBH so we're going to sort that this month. Peter discusses how you can heal diastasis recti, and prevent further core problems, when you have no/limited use of your legs or are used to being in a wheelchair.
In the news this week; this study that shows that simple dietary changes and adopting lifestyle alterations, including improved sleep schedules, taking probiotics, and exercising, can reduce signs of biological aging by three years in just eight weeks

Calories, macros or food quality, which matters more? May 30, 2021
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

Peter waffles about calories, macros and food quality. Which matters more??
This seems to be an age-old discussion online and is one of those areas that the fitness industry, deliberately, overcomplicates.
So Peter will answer the questions about this once, and hopefully, for all.
He talks about eating for health, eating for weightloss, eating for performance and all those things.
In the news this week; This program on the BBC about the effects of ultra-processed foods on the human body and the brain. It's called "What are we feeding our kids" and it's quite a nice little watch, if you're interested in that sort of thing (And you really should be).
Peter mentions that its a bit disappointing to see an obesity expert and a Dr both pretend to be shocked that junk-food is addictive but he hopes that was just a bit of show for the program.
