The Gestalt Gardener — Games & Hobbies
The Gestalt Gardener

Each week, horticulturalist Felder Rushing shares stories, answers questions and just talks gardening. Of course, you’ll hear a bit of “cheesy music” in every program and you might hear a bad joke or two as well. The Gestalt Gardener is a long-time favorite on MPB Think Radio, due in no small part to Felder’s laid-back, your-neighbors-might-talk-but-so-what approach to gardening.

Email Felder anytime at garden@mpbonline.org and listen Friday mornings at 9 and Saturday mornings at 10 to The Gestalt Gardener on MPB Think Radio. And in the meantime, as Felder says, get out and get dirty.

The Gestalt Gardener | Smug Mug Jun 04, 2021

Show notes

Gardening does not have to be a competition but knowing your tomatoes or potatoes came out better than your neighbors can make for some pretty smug backyard conversations. Felder brought in a highly satisfied (aka smug) feeling into the studio as he showed off his potato from his garden. During this round of southern gardening questions about bugs and ill spotted plants, Felder also sets the stage for one more "Felder on The Road" event. Tune in!

The Gestalt Gardener | I've Been Everywhere May 21, 2021

Show notes

After over a month of live shows across Mississippi, Felder Rushing is back in the studio. Sort of like riding a bike Felder gets back in the groove of solo studio life while the cheers from a live audience are just a recent memory. Yet two callers from today's show were actually friends he met on the road. Always at the ready with his brand of advice, he helps with your southern gardening questions and talks about how fun it was (safely) bringing the garden party to the people. Also, Felder gifts Java some garden fresh cauliflower he picked right before the show. This was a special grow for a plate of boneless cauliflower wings. Now let's get dirty!

But seriously Felder shares his latest garden bundle, brings in two cheesy tunes, and sets up a plant swap with a fan that has something special from Arizona. Let's get dirty!

The Gestalt Gardener | Blackberry Winter Mar 19, 2021

Show notes

Blackberry winter is the name for the cold snap that seems to happen every early spring. As soon as the blackberries peek out the temperature takes a quick dive. Felder urges not to plant at the first sign of warm weather, because blackberry winter is usually on the forefront ready to stunt a few of our plants. During this round of southern gardening questions, Felder spreads his brand of optimism mixed with years of horticultural knowledge. Then plays a cheesy tune that focuses on a certain demographic. Let's get dirty!

The Gestalt Gardener | Held Accountable Mar 12, 2021

Show notes

The weather has been mighty fine and you might be itching to start planting. The horticulturist in Felder would tell you it's too early. Yet, the gardener side of Felder is telling you to dig that hole, put something in it green side up, and hope for the best. In this edition of the Gestalt Gardener, Felder tries to balance his two sides to make your garden flourish this time of year. Also, he brings in a mellow tune to even out these early spring days.
