    Show notes

Katie Schide is an American ultrarunner living in Europe. In just a few short years, Katie has become one of the best and most consistent racers on the circuit, accumulating wins and podium finishes at some of Europe's most iconic races. That being the case, it's always seemed to me that Katie flies under the radar so it was great to chat and get to know her a little better. Stephanie Howe | Looking Back & Moving Forward Sep 30, 2020
    Show notes

Stephanie Howe has been a top ultrarunner for a decade. She's achieved great things in the sport including winning one of the world's most important races, the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run, which she did in 2014. While she's been on the top for a long time, Stephanie has also been through some tough challenges both in her personal and athletic life. Last year, 2019, was a particular tough year for her as she went through both a surgery and a divorce and all the psychological and emotional pain that came as a result. We talk a lot about what she learned from such a shitty year and how she feels she's emerged a better and stronger version of herself. Stephanie recently announced that she's expecting a baby boy in 2021, so we also spend a lot of time discussing motherhood and how it will relate to her future as an athlete. This one is full of good vibes.

Tom Evans | Basics Done Well Sep 23, 2020
    Show notes

Tom Evans is a British ultrarunner who has made a very quick and impressive mark on the sport in the last few years. Without a background in running, Tom found trail and ultrarunning while serving in the British military when he signed up for the Marathon des Sables on a drunken whim. Incredibly, he finished third, launching him on his amazing career trajectory. Recently, Tom ran a 1:03 half marathon, showing his range and talent in shorter races as well. I hope this conversation gives you all a glimpse into the mind of one of the world's best and someone who represents the future of professional trail and ultrarunning.

Jason Schalrb is an ultrarunner from Durango, CO. He's been a friend and fellow competitor for many years. Jason recently won the IMTUF 100 miler in Idaho, which initially motivated this discussion. While we do talk about that in some detail, the bulk of the conversation confronts the human side of the sport. Jason shares some recent struggles he's dealt with, how he processed them, and how the experience made him a better person. We also talk about aging as an athlete and how to stay at our best through that process.

On July 2nd 2020 Joey Campanelli set a new speed record for Colorado's legendary Nolan's 14 -- a burly route involving summiting fourteen different 14k' peaks in a single push. He managed to break the record by more than five hours, changing the paradigm of what's possible on the route. Even more impressively, he did the record completely unsupported.
