High Leverage Habits for the New Year Jan 17, 2023
    Show notes

Every day you are confronted thousands of decisions - often as many as 35,000. Everything that you do is a choice, but if you spent one second for every decision, then you'd spend almost 10 hours a day just making decisions. That doesn't even include the time it would take to actually accomplish the things you choose. Luckily, the human brain has the ability to eliminate thousands of those decisions through a very simple tool: habits.

If you can become aware of your habits, then you'll be able to evaluate the ones that are serving you, the ones that are hurting you, and the ones that you should pick up. In this episode, Michael Hyatt and Megan Hyatt Miller discuss the habits that they're currently working on. After that, Joel Miller speaks with Courtney Baker about two habits that are a vital part of the Full Focus System that many people simply miss.

While it might seem cliche, the new year is a perfect opportunity to set goals both personally and professionally. This is due to something called the "Fresh Start Effect". This idea might seem more intuitive than quantitative, but the reality is that there is a lot of data behind the effectiveness of the Fresh Start Effect. Understanding how to harness the new year could be the difference between a good year and a great year.

In this episode, Michael Hyatt and Megan Hyatt Miller offer you four steps for making positive change happen in the new year. After that, Joel Miller speaks with author and economist, Dr. Katy Milkman, about the Fresh State Effect and how to use it in your leadership.

Setting Goals That Actually Work For You Dec 27, 2022
    Show notes

Most people don't follow through on the goals that they set for themselves. This is common knowledge. But the more important question is: Why are people struggling to achieve their goals? It turns out that some of it has to do with how we structure our goals and some of it has to do with our motivation for choosing those goals in the first place.

In this episode, Megan and Michael talk about five mistakes that people make when setting goals and how to move forward. Then, Joel speaks to author Luke Burgis about the importance of how we're motivated.

Make sure to check out Luke's book, Wanting: The Power of Mimetic Desire in Everyday Life.

    Start with a List Dec 20, 2022
    Show notes

If there's one thing that a leader is good at, then it's probably making lists. More often than not, it's a to-do list of tasks that you'll probably never finish and make you feel like you'll never catch up (because you always add more than you can check off). But, what if there were lists that made you feel good?

In this episode, we're branching out from the to-do list and providing leaders with a few other lists that might provide clarity and increase happiness and motivation. First, Megan and Joel talk about the lists that they have found the most valuable as business leaders. Then, Joel speaks with Jeremy Adam Smith, the editor of Greater Good Magazine and co-editor of The Gratitude Project. Jeremy shares some important research on gratitude and Joel makes the case for making a gratitude list.
