More Women Come Forward About Biden's Busy Hands Apr 05, 2019
    Show notes

Hopes were raised that Timmothy Pitzen had been found, but those hopes were dashed after the FBI determined that the person claiming to be the boy who went missing in 2011 was not him. It was actually a 23 year old man name Brian Michael Rini. But what actually happened to Timmothy Pitzen? My producer Miranda joins us to tell his story.

Next, the controversy surrounding Joe Biden continues to swirl, despite him not officially running for president yet. There are now seven women who have accused Biden of invading their personal space, though none of the women felt it was sexual in nature, just not appropriate in a professional setting. Biden has said he will be more mindful of how he interacts with others. Ginger Gibson, political reporter for Reuters, joins us to discuss how this will impact his potential big.

Finally, Millennials are sick of drinking. Maybe not completely, but it seems that attitudes are changing about drinking and some are trying to cut back. As Millennials are getting married and building families later in life, social life in their 30s is mirroring activities in their 20s. Amanda Mull, writer at the Atlantic, joins us to talk about changing attitudes about drinking and what may be driving the change.

ED Meds Now Available On Demand Apr 04, 2019
    Show notes

There is a new crop of tech startups making prescription drugs available without ever needing to talk directly to a doctor. On these sites, people self-diagnose, select a drug, and enter some personal health and credit card info. Then a doctor assesses your choice, approves it and boom, you get your medicine. Sam Baker, healthcare editor at Axios, joins us for how these sites are doing an end-run around doctors’ traditional role in the system.

Next, when was the last time you heard about the draft? Did you know that failing to register for the draft could have a bunch of long term consequences? Want to get federal student aid, citizenship, or even a federal job, it’s all impossible if you didn’t register for the draft by age 26. Gregory Korte, reporter for USA Today, joins us for what happens when you fail to register.

Finally, people over 65 will soon make up the largest single age group in the US. The culture and content of the internet has been historically determined by people who have access multiplied by those who have the most time to spend on it. In the next decade, it’s going to be more old people, and they are increasingly targeted by scams and fake news. Craig Silverman, reporter at Buzzfeed News, joins us for why we need to increase digital literacy in older Americans.

Nipsey Hussle's Legacy Will Live On Apr 03, 2019
    Show notes

Nipsey Hussle's alleged killer Eric Holder has been arrested by police. Nipsey was shot in the head and torso in what police call a personal dispute with his killer. What makes his death more tragic is that he had become more than a Grammy nominated rapper. He went from being a gang member to a rap star, to an entrepreneur and community organizer, an activist who wanted to turn his old neighborhood around. Gerrick Kennedy with the LA Times, joins us to talk about Nipsey Hussle’s legacy.

Next, from moms to doctors to everyday employees, burnout is everywhere. While many people get stressed with day to day activities, burnout could be a much more serious thing. Think of it as chronic stress gone awry, emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and feeling ineffective. Writer Jenny Rough joins us to talk about burnout and what to do about it.

Finally, it’s a meltdown that happens across the country in many households. You tell the kids it’s time to turn the video games off and they start yelling and throwing tantrums, but why doesn’t it happen when it’s time to stop playing with Legos? There is something happening in their brains when the video games stop. Julie Jargon, family and tech correspondent for the WSJ, joins us for how to handle kids and their games.

Need Money for Your City? Monetize the Traffic! Apr 02, 2019
    Show notes

Get ready for congestion pricing. New York City is set to become the first big city in the country to charge vehicles a fee for driving on its most congested streets in a hope to ease gridlock and raise money for public transit. It’s a complicated issue in a high profile area and other cities will be watching as they mull over implementing similar systems. Paul Berger, reporter for the WSJ, joins us to discuss what we know about the NY Plan.

Next, we have a White House whistle-blower and she is calling out the process in which security clearances were being approved. Tricia Newbold, a White House security adviser for 18 years, has said the at least 25 officials were granted clearances after initially being denied. Some of disqualifying issues involved foreign influence, conflicts of interest, financial problems and more. Andrew Desiderio, reporter for Politico, joins us to talk about the latest whistle-blower allegations.

Finally, the Impossible is happening… at Burger King. 59 locations in the St. Louis area are testing out the Impossible Whopper, made with a vegan patty produced by start-up Impossible Foods. If all goes well, Burger King plans to roll out the plant-based burger to all of its 7,200 locations. Jon Porter, reporter at the Verge, joins us to discuss Burger King’s latest offering.

    Will a #MeToo Moment Derail a Biden Bid for 2020? Apr 01, 2019
    Show notes

Former Vice-president Joe Biden has been accused of inappropriate conduct by a woman who says he put his hands on her shoulders, smelled her hair, and slow kissed the top of her head. Biden for his part has said that he does not believe he ever acted inappropriately. Ginger Gibson, political reporter for Reuters joins us for how this could impact his possible presidential bid and more.

Next, Mike Pence laid out the goal last week of putting American astronauts to the moon by 2024. While this could be a major achievement, it also comes with a gamble… it’s going to take a lot of money and time to complete projects needed to meet the deadline. Andrew Freedman, science editor at Axios, joins us for this new space race to the moon.

Finally, where is the high tech transportation future we were promised? There are no jetpacks, no flying cars, but we are almost there on self-driving cars. Corrine Iozzio, editor at Popular Science joins us to break down how close we are to getting those jetpacks and more. She’ll also tell us why PopSci declared in 1924 that flying cars were only 20 years away.

The Woman Who Can't Feel Pain Mar 29, 2019
    Show notes

Jo Cameron is the woman who feels no pain. Jo is now 71 and scientists are just finding out why she has gone through her whole life experiencing very little pain. She would often cut herself or burn herself and wouldn’t notice until she saw blood or smelled burning flesh. Rachel Feltman, editor at Popular Science, joins us for what makes Jo Cameron feel no pain, a gene mutation that scientists hope could help others in the future.

Next, these measles cases are getting out of hand. The number of cases so far this year is nearing the total for all of 2018 with six states reporting outbreaks. It has become such a public health hazard that Rockland County, NY has banned unvaccinated minors from entering public spaces for 30 days. Rachel Becker, reporter at the Verge, joins us for why the measles have gotten out of control and why these types of bans may become more common.

Finally, a follow up to the lawsuit against Monsanto and its parent company Bayer. Edwin Hardeman claimed that years of using their Roundup weedkiller gave him non-Hodgkin lymphoma. A jury decided that the product did give him cancer, and they also just decided Bayer was liable in the case and owes him $80 million. Sara Randazzo, reporter for the WSJ, joins us to wrap up the case.
