    The Corie Weathers Podcast

Corie Weathers is a licensed counselor who has spent two decades sitting with people in the middle of hard things. Marriages under strain. Families carrying more than anyone outside the house can see.

This podcast is that same conversation, opened up. Corie talks with guests, and sometimes straight to you, about marriage and connection, parenting through change, faith, mental health, and the culture we are all trying to live in right now. You get clinical insight without the clinical distance, and you leave with something you can use this week.

Corie is the author of Military Culture Shift and Sacred Spaces, and a licensed professional counselor and board certified coach. She was one of the Mighty25 Influencers of 2024 and the 2015 Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year for her work with service members, families, and military academia. Each season takes its own shape. This one is simple and conversational, closer to how these talks actually happen at a kitchen table.

Can A Community Break with Dr. Seth Abrutyn Jun 01, 2026
    Show notes

What happens when stress doesn’t just affect individuals—but entire communities?

In this episode of Restored, I sit down with sociologist Dr. Seth Abrutyn, whose research explores how collective stress, cultural trauma, and social pain shape mental health, belonging, and the survival of communities over time.

Drawing from his book Life Under Pressure and his work on collective and cultural trauma, Seth helps us understand why communities under prolonged pressure—whether schools, neighborhoods, minority groups, or institutions—can begin to fracture, lose trust, and struggle to care for their people.

Matt and I join the USO to talk about how we are handling Reintegration in the "You're Leaving, Again?" series! Reintegration never gets easier, it just changes depending on the season you are in. Coming off a year of COVID and a deployment, Matt seemed to be in a much better spot than I was. In this episode we share our ups and downs and how we are navigating bringing our two separate worlds together.

Tools and concepts discussed during the series apply to all types of military-initiated separations; from deployments and trainings, to geo-bachelor tours, unaccompanied tours, and even third shift schedules.

    Addiction & Marriage Part 1 Jun 01, 2019
    Show notes

When a good friend approached me and asked why I had not addressed addiction and alcoholism on the podcast yet- I didn't have an answer. I could not believe this topic had not been covered yet. As Alyssa and I talked, she shared with me that she had searched everywhere for solid information on how to address alcohol addiction in her marriage. Ultimately, I invited her to courageously share her story. In this two part interview, Alyssa shares how alcohol in the service culture impacts so many marriages and families and how she approached her husband on his drinking.

There are many different ways that alcohol, pornography, or many other addictions can destroy your marriage. We won't be able to address addiction from all sides in this interview, however I am so proud of how Alyssa handled her situation. Alyssa does a fantastic job not only respecting her husband and marriage, but also modeling healthy boundaries, asking for change, and supporting her husband through his recovery.

If you are struggling with addiction or your spouse is, there is help out there. No couple should approach a situation like this alone. Counseling, the military ASAP program, and 12 Step Programs in your area can provide you the help you need to navigate the complexity of addiction and recovery.

Part 3: The Role of Community & God Jul 27, 2018
    Show notes

The topic of moral injury continues to be discussed within the military and veteran space, but many still are unclear what it is and how it impacts a person and their family. Moral injury is often described as the internal struggle a person goes through after being asked to do something that goes against his or her morals or values. For many of our service members, this is a real issues that deeply impacts their ability to recover. In this FANTASTIC interview, listen as I speak with Chaplain Timothy Mallard, a subject matter expert not only in moral injury, but soul injury. Soul injury, he describes, is an even deeper and sometimes more complicated injury to the soul- often not due to anything the person did- but more so done to them. Sit back with a cup of coffee and listen. You wont want to miss a word of this two-part conversation.

    Compassion Fatigue Feb 01, 2017
    Show notes

Lifegiver is BACK with an all new episode! Welcome to 2017! I've returned from a sabbatical and have been thinking a lot about compassion fatigue and burnout. No doubt that I have seen this in my own life, but what if it is a bigger problem than we realize in our community? If you are burned out from volunteering or giving all of your compassion away to the outside world- you are not alone. In this episode, we will talk about how to know if you are struggling with compassion fatigue and ways you can get yourself back on track and healthy again. It is a big problem, especially if you have nothing left to offer your marriage or family. Military and First Responders have the most difficult time saying "NO" when their entire world revolves around service.
